Dartington Squash Club is situated on the Dartington Estate near Totnes in Devon. We have two courts close to the main buildings at Dartington Hall (the courts are leased from the Dartington Hall Trust). There is plenty of parking nearby – the rates (as from February 2013) are now as follows:
- Between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm, charges are 30p an hour
- After 4.00 pm a flat fee of £1.00 applies
- All day rate of £3.00 available between 9.00am and 11.00pm
Nearby you will find the White Hart Bar and restaurant, Dartington gardens and other facilities (see How to find us page).
We are officially recognised as a Community Amateur Sports Club by HM Revenue and Customs to supply facilities for squash and racketball and, as such, enjoy charitable status.
We welcome new members: please see Membership page for fees and to download a membership form. There are no court fees, and there is no booking system – you can play at any time (except for certain times reserved for team practice, coaching and other events – see Playing).
All members are welcome to join the monthly ‘box’ system. There are usually around five boxes, each with five players in them. All players in a box play each other, and at the end of the month the top two are promoted and bottom two relegated. A new person wanting to enter the box system can challenge anyone in any box, and if they win they move into that box (if they lose, they have to start in the bottom box). To enter the boxes please contact Guy Davies (tel: 07765 406953) or Stuart Allen (tel: 07970 569733).
The club runs two teams which play in the Devon Squash league. You can follow dates of matches, individual results and the current league positions of the teams on the Nine-Nil site, and dates of forthcoming home matches are given here. In the 2012-13 season, the first team is playing in Division 1 and the second team in Division 4. Spectators and supporters are always welcome!
New arrangements for open evenings will be made in the near future. Watch this space!
The club has a thriving junior membership, with coaching available, and also runs a ladder for the juniors as well as various tournaments during the year.
The club is fortunate to have a qualified coach. He organises group sessions for Juniors and individual coaching by private arrangement.
The courts can also be used for racketball.
