Versailles

Louis XIV transformed a royal hunting lodge, built by his father, into one of the most impressive palaces in Europe at Versailles. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the estate houses an exceptional array of treasures and exhibits, and is famed for its Hall of Mirrors which stretches for over 70 metres. The palace's opulence is evident throughout its 2,300-room interior, with more than 2,100 windows, over 6,000 paintings and 3,000 sculptures. The grounds are equally stunning with perfectly manicured gardens, a Grand Canal, statue-filled water parterres and a theatre.

Traditional restaurant
Le Bœuf à la Mode is a traditional brasserie with leather banquettes and wood accents, serving steak and French classics. It has a nice atmosphere and good food, but watch your calories if you sit outside - the kitchen smells awful. It's a great restaurant with friendly service and generous portions - very reasonable price for such an excellent experience. We'll be back!
