Syracuse Cathedral, located in the heart of the historic city of Syracuse in Sicily, is a magnificent religious landmark that captures the essence of the region's rich history and architectural splendor. Steeped in ancient charm, this grand cathedral stands as a testament to the city's cultural and religious heritage. The interior of the cathedral is equally captivating, with intricate frescoes, ornate sculptures, and stunning stained glass windows that bathe the space in a warm, ethereal glow. It’s very famous and also it’s history is very interesting which combines the Greek and Roman architect styles, it’s built BC and lasts till AD. It’s not very fancy and “wow” inside. The silver statue only goes out showing the public twice a year and actually no chance u will see it any other days of the year. There’s a miniature and video tho. Entrance fee 2€.

Lovely Cathedral in Ortega island Syracuse. We were lucky and arrived just as a military wedding was leaving the church. Exit was carried out in great style and the Piazza Duomo is one of the prettiest in Italy. Cathedral is very interesting as it is built on a pre christian Greek temple and makes use of the original ionic or doric columns, very large and cut from a single piece of stone

Breathtaking architecture, beautiful building built on the site of an ancient temple of Athena (you can still see the Doric columns from that era inside!). Stunning work, definitely worth visiting in Ortigia.

Located in a big square, this famous church looks beautifull and magnificent. You can sit in near bar and watch the crowds how they admire it.

The cathedral is a stunning blend of pagan architecture and a Baroque Christian church. The cathedral incorporates the remains of the ancient Minerva Temple, which was erected on the remains of a sixth-century BC Athena temple. More information could be provided in English or the audio guide with qr code to scan. It is part of the unesco world heritage site, and 2€ entrance fee is acceptable.

Amazing experience, so special and humbling to walk around in a place with this much history. Absolutely worth the small admission fee of 2 euros. We visited on a fairly calm Wednesday in May and everything was pretty accessible, no waiting times.

It's worth visiting since you will find way more than the cathedral. The cost was €2 which I do believe to be fair given what you will get access to.

Don’t waste your time to see theater while spending 13€. It’s covered by a new stage, lights, benches … for performances that taking place. So you can’t really see how it really looks like. Be careful, staff doesn’t inform you about this.

A disappointing joke of an attraction. These people are scammers. They have increased their prices to €13 and you don’t even see the Greek theatre which is supposed to be the main attraction. Instead you see the site which is covered by a wooden frame for seating because they host events. This was not told to us before we paid for our ticket. Not to mention all of the signage around the site is useless and unreadable. There should be well kept signs for people to read the history. It’s a wonder where the money from ticket sales goes because it’s certainly not to the upkeep of this sad excuse for a famous attraction. Do not waste your time and money, avoid this scam!!!

Amazing site of the ancient Greek Theater with a great view as the backdrop. We found some small caves at the back of the theatre and wondering what they were for.

Beautiful manmade theater! Up to 18000 people witnessed grekk tragedies here. It's open in summers for modern versions of the ancient tradegies and concerts. Beautiful. Highly recommended to get a tour guide to take you through it all. Love how nature has taken over a lot of this area with trees and fruits.

Beautifull theatre. It brings us back in time. We watched Ulisses, the last Odyssey and it was fabulous and magical! Great experience which I advise everyone to try atleast once in their life!

Wonderful ancient theatre! It’s like a big parc with ruins to visit and with magnificent vegetation. We had a great couple of hours there during our last day in the city.

A must to visit. Make sure you have good walking shoes and a waterbottle. There are taps to refresh yourself. Three walks you can choose to walk... short , not so short and one that you can see everything there. We took the long one and it really is not that hard to do.

It's more of a construction site, than an ancient theatre these days. You are not allowed to explore freely and if you ask me, because of the new instalments it has lost the charm it used to have (looking at the old pictures).

A lot of work is going on at the moment. But it is still a highlight to visit. Not just the theater itself but the whole park.

Very disappointing. This is Syracuse one of the great Greek cities. They have completely modernized the theater. You almost cannot tell its Greek. The amphitheater is half excavated. Go to the one in Taormina or Agrigento instead

An acoustic marvel. Used not only as a sister but as a prison. This is part of a quarry had a roof on its up until the sixteen forties when an earthquake caused it to collapse. In this fashion the workers could work in the shade and in the coolness of the quarry itself. If you come to Sicily this is a must see. It is an archeological wonder there are Greek and Roman theaters here Greek amphitheater's, Roman arenas. The columns that you see in the photographs were what supported the roof...

Sicily is full of beautiful landscape and thin one in particular is a real immersion in nature and history. It was one of my best experiences!

We were able to have the cave all to our self for a few minutes. It is really cool to hear the natural sounds of the birds overhead.

Ear of Dionysius is a nice place, but people are really loud there as they’re trying the echo. So it would be better to avoid the guided yours or school excursions.

We came in Easter, nothing was open and beach not yet cleaned properly. Perhaps nicer in the summer. Easy to reach by train from Siracusa.

The beach is beautiful. Very nice fine sand. There is some seaweed, but it wasn’t an overwhelming amount.

Great beach to chill. Very clear water with no weeds. You can get a drink or something to eat at the little restaurant just off the beach.

Nice, sandy beach, but as we visited it in February, there were lots and lots of palm tree rubbish just at the water front.

The beach is stunning, with white sand and clear water. The food options are decent but not impressive, and the beach vendors can be a bit bothersome. In June, it cost 20€ to rent a sunbed with an umbrella.

Good beach, probably one of the warmest places to visit in October. Good bar on the beach, also they have toilet and showers.

Nearest beach to our resort hotel. Clean though Italy has a problem with cigarette butts that everyone thinks disappears. Sea has some weed but not overwhelming. Nice cafe, lends loungers and umbrellas

Practical info for other tourists! Out of the three main beaches, the northern litoral, Arenella, and Fonta Bianche, I would say that this would be the most preferred option. The beach is divided into a private and public access area. The private area is quite cheap for a couple (20 eur in total to rent 2 chairs with an umbrella on days except Sunday. I posted the price board below). The rent time runs from 9 am to 7 pm. The public area is not bad at all, and there is quite enough shore space, as you can see in the videos. The view is picturesque, with calm waves, and a lot of space. At the entrance of the free beach you can find a bar that can satisfy most of your necessities – drinks, ice cream, snacks and food, etc. There are also a few restaurant places, but here I would recommend only the pizzeria - la Capannina de Gino. The other places are rather pricey and, in my opinion, not a pleasant consumer experience. There are also people that walk around the shore selling miscellaneous beach items (umbrellas, hats, volleyballs, sunglasses,etc.) Best not buy anything unless really necessary. Nonetheless, the beach is free, pleasant, mostly clean, not loud, making it a nice choice for beach relaxation.

The public part of this beach has a border of dark brown/black seaweed which prevents tiny children from accessing the sea to paddle. It is adjacent to private beaches which have no seaweed. How is this fair? The far end of the beach is also public and does not have the seaweed issue but it is a somewhat smaller area.

Lovely pool, full of fish and ducks. Plenty of cafes nearby with outdoor seating for a break while touring the island.

Beautiful freshwater pool/spring right next to the sea. There are some carps and ducks in the pond and some unique papyrus plants as well. Around it there are also plenty of possibilities to take a seat and enjoy the view.

Opened early in the morning until lunch. They reopen at 5pm for 2 hours or so. When I visited Ortigia it was raining all day, so unfortunately the gate were closed. Ticket entry fee - I cannot remember how much. Fresh water garden with ducks. There is a statue at the entrance. It is located on the promenade (sea front, south west of the island). No WC - Accessible to all.

It's a fantastic natural spring with lovely lights in the evening. I think it's worth it to visit in the evening because of its unexpected fresh green magic! I could imagine it's nice oases during the hot days in summer. Nearby there is a parking area, but not sure if it's paid during the day.

Beautiful view of the spring. The area immediately above the spring has a spiral painted on the pavement. The person responsible was a local and was famous amongst the math community. You can view the spiral if you click on the satellite view.

Beautiful to visit. There is not much to see of the fountain, but it is nice to see how the dam wall separates the freshwater from the sea. Around it plenty of cosy restaurants. Nice to walk to and enjoy the view.

A cute water spring with a real papyrus growing in the middle. It’s story goes back to the Ancient Greek myths. Ducks and geese live there. It’s a peaceful place for observing nature.

Beautiful, magical, mythical place where Arethusa was turned into a spring and her love, Alpheus, made his way to her beneath the sea. Wonderful!

Excellent sandwiches at a great price and interesting street market. Glad we went but we’ll likely never go back to Sicily. It was an absolute CF getting to and around Syracuse. These people do NOT know how to drive and the region in general is very run down and dirty. 4 stars for the lunch, 1 star for Sicily, 0 stars for Syracuse.

At Caseificio Borderi — TikTokers call this the best sandwich in the world. It was an incredible sandwich for €8. Wait wasn’t too bad and the staff was really nice. The Chef’s Special kinda means whatever they want, but that’s the fun of it. At one point a blow torch came out to roast the dried salami. 🔥🍖🥪 The pistachio pesto did give this sammy a tasty Sicilian flavor. Gotta love a place that sticks to serving high quality ingredients without marking up prices, despite the throngs of eager tourists. Two of us split one sandwich.

Full-experience in Ortigia local market. Everything was perfect, the bread, the cheese-based starters, and cool beers in the swarming heat in the market chaos. And of course, the salami and the pistachio pesto out of this world...

Great ingredients and a real effort to treat your panini the best possible way. Everything à la minute, from cutting the bread and cheese to dress it with olive oil and zest it up with sicilian lemons. Worth to wait in the line! One panini is more than enough for one person! Love

This is a fantastic place to let the Italian culture wake up all your senses. Delicious fresh food, top-notch service and great environment. The best thing you can actually do is go there and trust whatever they offer to prepare for you. They hold the secret to elevate the panini-making art. I promise, you won’t regret it. Be prepared to wait a bit in line, because this place is very popular. However, the waiting is worth every second. Hope you have a great time!

Wow! Great sandwiches. Queues to enter are always long but worth the wait. One sandwich costs 8 euros but they are so huge that there is enough for two people. You choose the ingredients yourself, and there are plenty of them. The cook was making a sandwich and gave me a large piece of smoked mozzarella to try. Cool! Everything is fast, loud and delicious.

Their panini are just amazing, and their dairy products are unbelievable. The mozzarella and the smoked mozzarella are something worth the queue, the travel (wherever you are coming from), and the hot water (if you go in summertime).

A huge sandwich filled with whatever you want, loads of cheese, meat, vegetables, etc for 8€. It was super busy, you might end up waiting for 20-30 minutes, I read it is better to grab a table, but it was completely full, so I did take away. The guys were fun and sweet, I asked the one who made mine to make something he likes. Got a huge chunk of mozzarella while I was waiting in line. I could tell it was a well known place for tourist and local people too. I'd recommend it if you are in Siracusa, because you'll be full. We enjoyed the food here. We had chef panini and the platter for 3 persons. 4 people, 2 panini and the platter and it was more than enough, so we couldnt finish all. I totally recommend the place. It is not some fancy place, you eat outside and there are lots of people passing by, but if you don't mind this aspect then go for it. For me it wasn't just food, it was an experience that I enjoyed.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Best sandwiches ever! To eat in you have to order them at the table. To take them out you need to order them inside. They taste delicious and the size is enormous. 100% recommended when visiting Ortigia.

So far best restaurant we had our meal on Sicily island. Staff very friendly, very well organised and attentive. Food are really at fair prices and they are very generous in their portions. Also food is very nicely presented. We were introduced to their local beers and tried. Perfectly matches and nice alternative for their wines. Can get crowded the all day. So can be recommended to book in advance or you need to be patient. At lunch and dinner time it can be up to 20 min at least for a table. But it’s more than worth it

Very nice place. Food was done well. Octopus with mash potatoes was top class. Macaroni with shrimps and pistachio absolutely lovely. Mideterian plate nice but not a must have. All in all recommending as a fantastic place to have a Italian dinner.

IT was a pain trying to get seats in this place and a bit of a rough start .... But it was well worth it once we settled in and got served. The food is classic and has a rustic home cooked feel about it, in a very good way. It has a busy conversational, relaxed vibe and the prices seem more than fair for what you get.

Definitely the place to be in Siracusa! The owner lady has so much passion for the food they are making! Also all the wines are local ones! Everything is amazingly yummy! Must try!!! ❤️

An amazing culinary experience for the once that want to dig deeper into Sicilian gastronomy. The service is impeccable so is the food. Cosy and welcoming atmosphere for all the customers. We highly recommend the pasta and chicken steak.

If you show up and there’s a wait… it’s worth it. Mixed with locals and tourists, the food is wonderful. Even though they were very busy the service was still excellent. Highly suggest anything with pesto pistachio or the tune encrusted with pistachio. So delicious!

Best meal had in Ortigia, perhaps in all during our two week trip around the island. Delicious in a fun quaint restaurant. Best meatball I’ve ever had, don’t tell my Italian relatives. No reservations, get there early or be prepared to wait. The wait was worth it.

The best dinner we had in Sicily ❤️ I recommend to book a table here otherwise you need to wait. The atmosphere of restaurant is amazing the owner is really kind and cool. They serve traditional sicilian dishes and I must say it was the best caponata I have ever had. The must of the menu is pasta with pistachio pesto and bacon. The one with prawns was also good but combo with bacon is top! Chickpea soup could have more intense taste or maybe the option with seafood is better option of the menu. Tuna with pistachio crust was nice and fresh, sandwich ala caprese was nice and crunchy. I must say all the food we have tried and seen on other tables looked outstanding. So if you are in Syracusa this is the place to go. 👌👌👌

Wonderful Little Sicilian restaurant. Great ambience and great food. Authentic Sicilian recipes mamma or grandma style. Friendly staff. You can't book so you will have to leave your name and wait...worth it!

If you appreciate some actual cooking and caring for guests, come here. No pizza on the menu, but many many other things that should blow your mind. Hidden in the city lies this pearl waiting for people that appreciate real food and taste.

A gastronomic pleasure with an unpretentious interior is Ortigia's In Tavola Ristorante. Here, as with many other places, they have home-made pasta and spaghetti. However, we ordered fish - swordfish for me and mackerel for my wife, along with a few glasses of wine and water. For dessert we had the lemon pie and a cannolo, along with a coffee and a Sicilian Amaro, for 77€ for two people. The staff were excellent too!

Best pasta I’ve eaten so far in Sicily but also in life. Price/performance ratio very good. But make sure you have a reservation, otherwise you probably won’t get a table. That’s got to mean something ;).

We went on a Sunday evening, was very busy. We tried calling and emailing for a reservation but we were informed it was all booked. We decided to drop in and try our luck! We got a table at 21:30, inside. After recommendation we started with stuffed sardines and oranges - crispy, juicy and worked so well with the citrus. For mains we decided on homemade pasta Norma and fish of the day in red sauce - mackerel. Both mains were equally appetising and delicious! Traditional, typical, simple cuisine. Felt cozy and intimate. And yes the tiramisu is indeed a must have!

Nice restaurant. Really nice ambiance in the outdoor seating area. We got two exceptional appetizers and two pastas that were authentic Sicilian dishes. They were not as good as the appetizers but were pretty good. Quality service.

I had great expectations since the restaurant is mentioned in Lonely planet guide. The food is tasty, you need to book your seat in advance. They’re open from 19:30 not 19:00 as they state. The portions of the main course are rather smaller comparing to others restaurants i’ve been to in Sicily. The stuff is very kind.

A Sicilian cuisine with french influence gives you a unique food experience and flavor. Friendly staff and honest with costumers. He actually saved us to order to much food. Great selection of wine. Nice environment with a busy not busy atmosphere. Cozy and chill out at the same time. Food well presented and really tasty. Not 100 % happy with the mussaka but I wanna close one eye as was a nice surprise on the menu. I will definitely come back

It’s a very surprising and nice experience that I could enjoy nice Mediterranean foods. The local sicilia wine also very good and every body in the restaurant were so kind and deep knowledge and proud of their foods. Strongly recommend!

Enchanting spot, so beautiful and romantic. The food does not disappoint, service is excellent too. We had a tuna starter and then the salmon of the night for me while my husband had a pasta. Dessert was not my favorite and would skip the cassata here. But all else is wonderful ! Sit outside under the fairy lights

The place is so nice. Inside it's cosy and warm, and very busy. Still, the waiters were super attentive, the service excellent from all points of view. The food we ordered was Sicilian/French with a touch of Asia. Some dishes were...wow! - amazing, some less special, but it may just have been our personal preferences preferences. It seemed overall that it was cooked and displayed with a lot of care. Last, but not least, generous wine glasses and great coffee. Overall it was definitely a top restaurant!

Went to this restaurant for my husband's birthday. I love that there's a French twist to the dishes - really yummy and a little different to the other restaurants we've been to! The staff were super friendly and had the best evening with great food & wine!

A stellar food experience with handwritten menu's, extensive wine list and excellent atmosphere. Everything was wonderful. We loved the deep fried cheese and the beef fillet with pepper sauce.

Very happy to have experienced excellent food at this lovely Taverna. Home made pasta @ €10 / plate and excellent meat (fillet) @ €17 max. Saved on my favourites list :) Bill for 3 came to €100 and we have 2 G&Ts, bottle of sparkling water, 1 coca cola, 2 pasta dishes, 3 meat plates + 3 sides.. Portions are generous

Took my mum for dinner last night and we were not disappointed. Friendly and attentive staff, good service and we loved our sea food dishes!!! The restaurant was full in a quiet winter night which is a testimony of its success, even though the majority were tourists. But, mum and I are from Siracusa and we enjoyed the food 100%. Definitely a place that locals would appreciate too!

Very local place that offers both seafood and meat on their menu. Excellent crudo mare with oysters, fish pasta sauce, mussels, and a Sicilian pasta (like a caponata with red peppers). Reasonable price and homestyle service.
