Beautiful cathedral that is the absolute highlight of visiting Sofia. Mesmerising and magnificent on the inside and outside. It closes at 7 pm but they don't let anyone in a bit before that so if you are visiting it I would recommend the morning!! The walk from city centre is only 20 minutes and is absolutely worth doing it as there are beautiful buildings and parks to see on the way there!!

Beautiful old Cathedral with intricate carvings and breathtaking details. Huge chandeliers suspend over the place and the alcoves hold a great deal of minute details that you could study for a long time. The only drawback is that you have to pay to take pictures inside and there are staff members policing this constantly which really takes away from the atmosphere inside.

Very beautiful cathedral. One of the most remarkable from the exterior. A genuine marvel. Inside it is dark, I found a priest smoking, he yelled at me about taking a picture. I thought how ironic, if something is to desecrate a house of worship, certainly smoking would be worse than a picture. Inside, it's a bit more open, dark, and depressing. Worth a visit if you're close! Walls are probably stained with smoke.

It serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and is one of the 50 largest Christian church buildings, by volume, in the world. St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia occupies an area of 3,170 square metres (34,100 sq ft) and can hold 5,000 people inside. It is among the 10 largest eastern Orthodox church buildings and is the largest cathedral in the Balkans. It is believed that up until the year 2000 it was the largest finished Orthodox cathedral. Absolutely stunning 😍

One of the most beautiful cathedral I've ever visited. Being a Muslim I was spell bound. Pictures and videos are strictly not allowed, though just a part of church is open for visitors. We offered the 10 Lev to take pictures but still the person in charge didn't allow us. When we went last weekend some construction work was going on outside the church. A nearby metro station is located for easy access.

The architecture of this church is just beyond beautiful. The exterior patina against the limestone is gorgeous when lit by the setting sun and the evening lights. The interior is filled with murals on the walls and ceilings along with all the usual decor of a catholic church. It is absolutely beautiful inside and out but if you want to take photos on the inside you must make a donation and you cannot use a flash.

A really really beautiful thing to see, I saw it in the daytime but couldn’t get enough so went back and watched the sunset! Unfortunately there was a lot construction when I went, but if in Sofia, I would definitely go again.

A must visit place. The architecture is gorgeous. Entry is free but you take photos, you have to pay a little. The paintings of the walls and under the roof is interesting. Parking places are available but to pay with a specific app or sending SMS from the local number.

It can get very busy. Walked up and down it once and that was enough for me. The view of Vitosha mountain in the background is something to see but the boulevard for me felt too touristy and commercial. I recommend exploring the side streets off the boulevard to discover hidden gems.

Nice that is pedestrian and on the crossings the cars respect the people walking. There are many cafés and restaurants. The shops, they are so-so, nothing really special nor very good.

Visiting the historic part of the city, you will come across a tiny park with a Russian church. You can rest on the bench. He's really pretty.

I come back from time to time to enjoy the energy :) It is recommended to make a reservation in advance to enter the church with a guide. You can freely access the garden. The reason I assign 3 stars is the attitude of the woman at the ticket office - she was arrogant and rude proclaimig there is no order and how we cannot take part in the guided tour in a very impolite manner. It was an embarrassing situation in front of a friend from abroad. I would recommend a more polite attitude to the visitors.

It’s alright… just alright. Quick reminder. It’s free to view the church from the outside and take pictures of it as well as view the garden. It costs 10BGN for an adult to enter a 2BGN for students to enter the church inside with a guide which I think is every 10-15 minutes. Overall a nice experience worth visiting

Very lovely garden with sequoias. The church has great murals of 11,13 centuries. I saw a bit similar murals in Cappadocia, so I wasn't extremely impressed. However it worth visiting. Not far from Sofia. The surroundings are very nice and there is a spectacular view of Sofia. The overall time for being inside is 10 minutes, 8 people are allowed for one time. So you should have spare time. We waited for 40 min in the garden to enter the church.

Surrounded by much taller and much newer government buildings, St. George Rotunda Church is one of the most remarkable structures in Sofia. Originally built as a Roman Bath in the 4th century, this red brick building was converted into a church, became a mosque during the rule of the Ottomans and was reconsecrated as an Orthodox Church when Bulgaria regained its independence. There are beautiful frescoes inside. They had been painted over by the Ottomans and rediscovered and restored in the 20th century. Behind and around the building, there are remains of the old Roman city. Walk around to get a sense of the history of the place and for beautiful perspectives of the church.

Very nice old small church. Frescoes are old and therefore more interesting and valuable. I love the fact this church, as most of the others, are still working (if you are not a morning person, you can come to evening liturgy - 5PM).

Super awesome place and gorgeous fresco inside! It does not cost any money to visit and I highly recommend that you do so. It’s beautifully situated inside the walls of government buildings I believe? There is even a restaurant close to the rotunda if you’re looking for a bite to eat while looking at the church. The ladies inside the church were extremely friendly and welcoming. No photos are allowed inside of the church and so you must go see the fresco in person.

Had yogurt for appetizer (was ok) Caesar fried chicken burger (was disappointing) Roasted lamp as special dish (satisfying) and motel chocolate cake (satisfying) The service was beyond good. The ambiance was lovely and relaxing. The food is bit pricey, paid 110 lv but overall was all good. Will differently come back to try different dishes.

We loved the interior - it was not only beautiful but very comfortable. Food was good but overpriced for my liking. I have mixed feelings for the service: our waiter was very polite and even accommodated a request for a blanket; however, he got two things in our order wrong - instead of non-alcoholic cocktails, he served us alcoholic, and instead of my main, he brought a low-calorie meal. To make it worse, we ended up waiting for over 10 minutes to even hear a proposal for a resolution, which meant we were forced to proceed with our dining. I'm not too fussed about the mistakes themselves but about how the staff handled them. He did repeatedly say it was only his second day, and to me it appeared that there was not enough support from more senior members.

Shtastlivetsa was definitely the best place to have lunch during our trip to Sofia. The ambient, the staff, the food options and tastefullness, everything was top-notch. They have few but very thoughtful and interesting vegan options so there's something for everyone. We definitely will be back next time when we are in Sofia.

Nice and relaxed atmosphere (specially on the outdoor terrace). Quality of food is good however I was expecting a bit more from the flavor. Some of the dishes we ordered were a bit greasy. We had to wait for the dish of one of my friends for quite some time. Service was good but I don’t think I would repeat.

Extremely delicious food with amazing atmosphere! They were only taking reservations for the inside of the restaurant but there are tables outside, too. We asked to be seated at another table but we were refused. At the end there were no people that sat at our desired table, which was disappointing as we could have been re-sitted. The food is so good, however, that the place is definitely worth visiting.

Beautiful place, food was delicious. Good service. Price was cheap for European standards. Went there for the second time on our last day and we nailed the choices, better than the first day, this time we chose as starter some kind of cheese mousse with truffle flavour and mushrooms and some fried chicken sticks. The main dishes were better than the previous one of the first day, especially the lamb meatballs with yoghurt sauce and the sujuk horse sausage.

Was ok but not really outstandingbto be honest, just a better Burger Bar. I got a Bourbon Burger with fries and 0 Coke. The Burger was tasty but very small which doesnt match 20 Leva (10 Euro) and da fries where only small portion as side dish and not xtra plate as da Pictures show. Staff was ok and speaks English. All in all Burger King is better choice for Burgers

Excellent burgers with a cool urban atmosphere. The prices are European and definitely above Bulgarian. The quality of food is good, but I couldn't call it the best burger I tried. They serve a variety of local craft beers, out of which I tasted a decent local lager. The staff is friendly and nice.

Delicious beer and amazing fries. The burger was good, but not the best and only because the meat was a bit overcooked for me and with bigger chunks of ground meat. Otherwise the staff and everything else was really good. We will come back.

We used to love Skapto when it opened a couple of years back, but it seems they lowered the quality. The burgers we ordered last time were so absolutely terrible, that I'm posting photos of what we threw in the bin.

The product (burgers) are great and the price is amazing. I will definitely come back. The menu and the staff are English friendly, in addition you can pay by card. Few frustrating things are: the burger's bun makes it slippery inside, so impossible to eat with your hands; and the cutlery seems taken from a prison. You cannot cut a thing with that knife! Also the plate can be bigger/better to have more room for the burger with the fries.

Neat place to eat with reasonable price and big portion on potatoes but I personally really didn’t like what I ate after long wait especially those potatoes. And staff service could be better with much friendliness😊. Appreciated how they packaged the leftovers to take home and the free gum after paying.

Part of a chain of restaurants. Went there on a weekend evening without reservation. The hostess was courteous and found a place for us. It was fairly a big place and well managed. The restaurant was almost full when we arrived. Loved their bar food menu concept. Basically it's bar kind of food with fries with almost every dish. Salad options also available. The avocado hummus with fried tortillas was delicious. Very tasty food overall. Cocktails were good. Prices decent. Credit cards accepted. Staffs spoke good English

This is an excellent place for a group of friends and family with different tastes. Great range of cuisines, served beautifully and tastes good. The service is top-notch. Might be a chain, but this is one of my favourite chains now. They use top ingredients. Excellent value for money too. We went again to get our take-away sushi for the train. We'll packed! The only thing I didn't appreciate was a lot of plastic flowers at the entrance area. Brraks my heart. Surely they can avoid those or have real plants. But the main area interior has very good atmosphere.

Great food and good service. As with other places in Bulgaria the food was not as hot as we British like it but this seems to be a common theme so we put it down to the different cultural experience. If we had one comment to make it was that the main courses were served at different times meaning one person had finished before others were served ( there were only 5 of us). However the food was very tasty and good value.

Great location, tasty food and friendly service- three main reasons to choose Happy restaurant for a dine out. We truly loved the Golden cauliflower option on the menu, as well as the Salmon with grilled vegetables. Although no reservations in advance are possible, we waited just a few minutes before we were invited in, and that was on a busy Saturday night.

I am kind of skeptical about this, because upon arriving there we read reviews related to undercooked meat and it like scared us a little. Upon arrival, we waited a very long time for a table, but the staff had nothing to do with it, they were trying as fast as they could. Waiters very nice, patient. The food was really great, I can't say anything negative about it, maybe only that the real portions were much smaller than shown in the photos. We also had great lemonade. However, the next day we felt stomach problems and I don't know whether to attribute it to the food or to chance. Anyway, for me it's a great restaurant and I recommend trying it.

So impressed!!! I live in Texas and I'm used to that service at restaurants and Europe in general is very far from that. I was shocked to receive the same service at this place in Sofia. Our server was fantastic. He was personable, helpful, quick and came to check on us very frequently. The food was excellent, fresh and delicious. We also happened to visit on June 1st so my daughter got an extra ice-cream pop for Kids Day. She was thrilled. Highly recommend this Happy location.

This place was highly recommended by local Bulgarian friends, very authentic Bulgarian cuisine. You must reserve at least 1 day ahead. It gets very busy. Food is excellent, we tried platter of dried meat and was very good and also veal was super juicy and like butter. They have last wide selection of wine including rose wine. People are lovely and nice as well.

Sorry, can't say I liked it, because it goes against my concept of Bulgarian hospitality and food service. Portions were excellent as presentation, yet gourmet and not really as delicious as they can be. Bulgaria is famous for it's big portions, cozy atmosphere etc... and I understand this is a higher etiquette place, but that just isn't my thing. Otherwise the menu has some good choices.. The interior was well decorated but the entrance felt like going through a closed hotel, I almost turned away thinking it was closed.

The food was delicious! And was serve very well. It was very taste and fresh! The interior is simple but very traditional. I gave 4 stars for service because we had to remind about our food, but overall it was an amazing experience and I really recommend this place if you want to try the traditional dishes, such as lamb with liver rice, kolenta, and so on. If I ever come back to Sofia I will definitely be back to this restaurant.

We were visiting Sofia for a few days and went to this restaurant because of its popularity in the area. We were booked for 20.30pm, were seated at this time and ordered our food and drinks (water and two glasses of Rosé wine). One hour later we were brought a starter, (various homemade dips and 4 breads to spread these dips on), something that shouldn't take so long to be served. An hour and a half later our food was brought to us (in total we waited two and a half hours), which was cold and badly cooked, to the point that we were served one of the bread doughs that covered the food raw and smelling of yeast. The waiter's attention to us was appalling. The plate on which he served us the starter we ordered stayed on the table for half an hour and he passed us about ten times, didn't give us napkins and didn't even ask if we needed anything. Nor did he change the cutlery or plates. In short, we wasted the whole night in this restaurant that leaves much to be desired, which by the way, was not too crowded for the bad attention we were given. When we were leaving they asked us our opinion about the experience we had "dining" in their restaurant and we explained what I have said above and they apologised but they did nothing but make excuses to us.

It's in the heart of Sofia centre and very popular, so you need to book a table. The decor was nice and authentic. The food was yummy and presentation was cool. The service charge in Sofia is usually not included and therefore not really expected, but here it was pushed a bit. Prices were high compared to other restaurants in Sofia.

A very nice traditional restaurant with a modern twist in interior design, close to Vitosha Blvd. The food was very good. I had a traditional dish like comfort food, in a pot with a lid made from bread. Delicious! We ordered a bottle of Bulgarian wine, made from a local type of grapes, that paired really well with the food. The staff was friendly but spoke little English, but enough to understand our order. We went there for lunch and had to wait half an hour for the kitchen to open although all the tables were occupied. The majority of customers were tourists so the prices are set accordingly. It was a nice experience.

Food here is so good. Everything we ordered was very yummy. I will suggest to reserve table beforehand specially for weekends. Interior of the restaurant is also good. Service is okay. We ordered grandma’s Bowl, seasonal dish with fish and chomlek which is stew of lamb. The baklava in dessert was the best.

Lovely restaurant, we sat in the courtyard which was beautiful and despite being by the busy main street was very calm and peaceful. Food was traditional cuisine but with a modern and more luxury twist. The clay pot stew was lovely and also the fab bean starter. Reservation essential particularly for Friday evening. Some of the staff are a little surly.

I love this place. Go here every time I visit Sofia. Top quality ethnic Bulgarian food and great selection of drinks. The atmosphere is so unique. Especially with those musicians in the evening. Had a quiet coffee later in the afternoon too. Very polite staff. There is a lot working in favour of this place.

The atmosphere at this place feels authentic, and I've heard that after 8 pm, there's local music which likely enhances the experience. Regarding the food, it seems to have its highs and lows. I wouldn't recommend the salads here. However, the first lamb dish you mentioned was perfect in every way. The risotto, I must add, was quite fine. On the downside, the salmon was quite disappointing, both in terms of portion size and taste. Surprisingly, their homemade wine turned out to be a delightful surprise. The staff's service was okay, although it seemed like they weren't too thrilled about us taking our time with ordering. At least their English skills were good.

#Hadjidraganovite kashti offers an unique experience as a place where you could show to foreigners how a traditional 🇧🇬 Bulgarian house could look like. Some years ago the food in the restaurant was really fresh with 👌 good quality corresponding to the prices. I could not say the same now. During our stay the 🥗 salads were tasty but unfortunately the meat wasn't fresh. We were not impressed from the 🍰 desserts as well. I think that this amazing atmosphere deserves a better quality food because the restaurants with Bulgarian food are really few these days in #Sofia.

Absolutely loved this restaurant. The food was fantastic, generous portions and delicious. The service and atmosphere were great, and the band certainly added to the feel. A little out of the centre of town, but well worth the effort. Worth noting that there's pretty good English translations on the menu (very useful for me!) and the staff could even understand my Stoke accent! It was fairly busy the first time I went, so consider booking ahead, but definitely give it a try. Edited to add that I went back again on my return trip through Sofia and it was just as good. The waitress suggested a couple of really good dishes - the cheesecake is perfection.

Very nice place, nice food and nice service, the prices are a little bit high for the portion and the quality of some dishes, but still most of the time you’ll find tasty food. The atmosphere is good a mix between traditional and modern (more like classy) I went there twice for dinner and I got both very good dishes or very mediocre dishes, so choose wisely your food there, but overall I can easily recommend the place, plus it’s on vitosha blvd so right after you can take a nice walk there too!

Had a great early dinner. A traditional Bulgarian restaurant with a traditional ambience. As you enter the restaurant, you get a traditional vibe. The menu is easy to understand as there are pictures for most of them and all dishes have an English description. The food we ordered was really good 👍🏽.

I wondered whether this restaurant might be some kind of tourist trap, but actually not a bit of it. A bit of a time warp, a rural past in the modern city current, but just good food, live music (and no taps for tips recieved) and a really extensive food choice. I enjoyed my lamb pilaf and the meat was soft and top quality and the rice tasty. Meal size was a bit of a random lottery but the more pricy the ingredients the smaller the meal size seemed to be the general rule. We shared a mix starter and enjoyed that too. We were happy to have taken the chance to done here. Very good.

If you are in Sofia and looking to have traditional food then this place is for you. A huge menu (easy to get lost in) with a very big selection of traditional dishes. We had the duck that was exceptional and the oven lamb that was out of heaven. Plus a folklore group came in and enhanced the experience with live music Deffinitely recommend visiting this restaurant.

Also there are musicians in the evening which add to the experience! Food was really good and also I got the raki tasting plate containing 5 different rakis made of different fruits! Also I like the indoor/outdoor area where you can smoke too
