Great views. Decent price for a family ticket. Kind of a must if you’re in Siena, you’re going to want the picture and to say you did the climb. I’m not in great shape but I made it up, down was slower as I was a bit lightheaded. They insist you only stay up for ten minutes, so that detracted from the experience but I understand, there’s only one shoulder width on the stairs, you can’t have folks up and down at the same time.

Beautiful views from this tower you cannot miss! Indeed, there are a lot of steps to get to the top, but it's definitely worth it 😊. Beware, the tickets can be bought only for the current day, not upfront. In case of bad weather forecast the tower is closed, so definitely check the forecast prior buying the tickets.

Must do in Siena. Period. The climb could be hot but not bad at all. We’re a family of 4 with kids of 3 and 7 years old. They did the climb with ease and little help from us. There are a few places to take a break and get in some breeze from the windows/openings on the wall. The rails are tall enough so height wasn’t a problem for my wife who’s usually afraid of heights. The stairs aren’t too steep although could be narrow at certain places but not unmanageable. Once atop, the view is panoramic and you can walk around the tower to take in views from all directions above the ancient city of Siena. About tickets: we got them 10:30 in the morning on a Friday in August. We were able to get a climbing slot of 11:30.

Mind blowing. Ticket price of €10 is totally worth it. Go on a sunny morning or when there’s a nice sunset. Brilliant views…

We bought the ticket that give you access to climb the tower plus two other museums for €20. The price is not cheap but the view from the tower is amazing! You can only buy tickets for the same day and usually they sold out early, at 1pm we got the last two available spots for the day at 6pm. You need to climb 400 steps and before going up they request to leave backpacks on a locker. The stairs are narrow, but not too bad.

Great views. 340 stairs to climb worth the pictures you get... Also, on the way to the top, there are lovely sights. Tickets are available only on the spot and run out pretty quick...

Built in 1338-1348, it is located in the Piazza del Campo, Siena's premier square, adjacent to the Palazzo Pubblico (Town Hall). When built it was one of the tallest secular towers in medieval Italy. At 102 m, it is second tallest after Cremona's Torrazzo (112 m (367 ft)), the Asinelli tower in Bologna at 97 m being third. The tower was built to be exactly the same height as the Siena Cathedral as a sign that the church and the state had equal amounts of power. A good experience when in Siena with great views. Go and buy your tickets ahead of time. Bought ours in the morning and didn’t get to go up until 2 PM. Be warned they only give you 10 minutes when you make it to the top. Kind of a shame they don’t let you take more time to snap pictures of the gorgeous views after such a strenuous climb.

We purchased our tickets from the main office below the tower. You will need to make sure the attendants are aware of what type of tickets you would like. We missed the opportunity to benefit from a discount by not giving enough information regarding the attractions we wanted to visit. The entrance door to the start of the tower steps, is directly to the left as you walk into the main building. You would of been given a time slot and you will have to wait for your time slot before starting the climb. You will find a Stop and Go light at the entrance door, you should wait until the light turns green to start the climb inside the tower, on our decent we had people coming up before the light had turned green. You will find that after a few flights of stairs you will come across a room where you will show your ticket and you will be asked to put all bags in the lockers, the lockers are all against the wall, you retained the key that locks the door. You will also find a WC just incase you need to go. The climb isn’t that bad, just take your time, you will find that at some stages the doors frames are a little low and the width is a bit tight. Once at the top you have a 360 degree view of Siena, well worth the climb.

Absolutely stunning! One of the rare cathedrals that take your breath away from the outside in. We had taken a walking tour (Siena 2-hour walking tour and skip-the-line Duomo Tickets with Elio on Get You Guide), which I highly recommend, as it was fantastic to have our guide explain some of the most iconic and moving works of the cathedral.

This is the most beautiful church we visited in Italy. In peak season, you NEED to book in advance. We skipped the line to pick up our tickets and had no wait, but if you had to queue up, I would estimate at least 1 hr wait. If you're visiting Siena, make sure to set aside some time for this, just remember to dress appropriately for churches (shoulders covered)

In June 2021, there were not so many people here, thanks to which we could walk through this beautiful Tuscan town in peace and undisturbed. From the roof there is a beautiful view of the surrounding area.

Absolutely stunning cathedral in Siena. Impressive is not just the black and white building, but also the floors. The queue can be quite long. If you want to visit the viewpoint, you need to buy the highest ticket category which also includes the museum. For the viewpoint, there's an extra waiting line up to one hour in the museum. The museum itself is interesting and worth a visit. The cheapest ticket category only includes the cathedral without baptistery and museum.

Easily one if the most beautiful buildings in Siena and one of the better cathedrals to visit. The interior is ornate and enormous. The attached museum is a must visit to truly appreciate Renaissance era Siena and the power this cathedral commanded. Tickets to enter are located just in front of the Cathedral.

Before visiting Siena, we knew that Siena was a rich small independent republic, developed even before Florence. We knew they have a great cathedral. But we were astonished when we saw it. Both exterior and interior are super elegant. On the floor are so many colorful engraving paintings, many of them are bible stories. It’s really impressive. We bought combined tickets for cathedral, church museum and the library.

Beautiful and majestic cathedral. Strongly recommended to get a ticket to visit the interior, it only costs 7€! Tall pillars of marble, very high ceilings and beautiful paintings. It's the size of an average church, but you can easily take hours, sitting there quietly, admiring the craftsmanship.

The cathedral is so beautiful and so peaceful. I have also visited the library it was just okay and small but the museum ❤ was incredible. Must go place while in siena.

A very unique and beautiful church, the most impressive in Siena. It's not too far from the main plaza. The outside is gorgeous and the Vatican inside is a pleasant surprise. There are cool busts of the Popes around the inside of the cathedral. Nice visit!

A magnificent piece of architecture, all of the front façade with its intricate masonry and sculpture and the inside is a large "WOW". Don't hold your breath as you will faint. I attach some photos as a tease to make you want to visit.😀. Either book tickets in advance if arriving there after 10:30 - 15:00 otherwise expect a bit of a queue. If in the queue you can buy online there and then go straight down the reservation line to get the tickets you have purchased. My wife and I purchased €20 tickets each, which covers all areas, what I call "The Full Monty" ticket!! This includes, inside the cathedral, up through the roof space and balconies looking down, crypt, museum and museum tower visit for a view of Siena. We were there for 3 - 4 hours, it takes to see and marvel.

The Piccolomini Library is a monumental environment of the Siena cathedral.The library is magically beautiful. Its frescoes and exposed books are priceless treasure. In the honor the memory of the maternal uncle Enea Silvio Piccolomini (Pope Pius II), and to preserve the rich bibliographic patrimony that the pontiff and humanist collected when he was in Rome, Cardinal Francesco Todeschini Piccolomini, archbishop of Siena (later Pope Pius III), around in 1492 he was built a library on the premises of the old rectory along the north-western side of the Cathedral. Todeschini was inspired by the French tradition that included libraries attached to cathedrals and by the opening of the Vatican Library of Pope Sixtus IV. Among the beautiful murals besides Pope Pius II is the character of Pinturicchio himself. In the scene with the canonization of Saint Catherine of Siena, among the public of the religious orders, in the lower left, the two figures in which the young Raphael (with red stockings) have long recognized themselves, who would have collaborated with Bernardino di Betto the execution of the frescoes in the Library, and Pinturicchio himself (with the red cap). Beautiful room inside Siena's cathedral. Spectacular and exceptional artwork in this library constructed by Pope Pius III to commemorate the memory of his uncle, Pope Pius II. The walls are divided into 10 scenes representing various important stages in the life of the Pope, the ceiling itself offers another impressive view with its main rectangle and half voltas painted in blue, red and gold and in the middle of the room there's the beautiful copy of The Three Graces from Roman times.

Personally I didn’t find it very spectacular or exceptional but it’s included in the cathedral tickets so if you have time it’s probably worth to have a look

The crypt entrance is outside and to the right of the cathedral. It is tricky to find. Relatively small in comparision to the cathedral but deep... you can look up into the cathedral and down much further into the crypt. Fascinating architecture and frescoe artwork.

The crypt of the Siena Duomo cathedral is located outside and to the right of the main cathedral entrance. The crypt is small and showcases nice artworks, sculptures, and frescoes.

In order to visit the Crypt you need to purchase a ticket for the Cathedral. The cathedral costs €4 to enter just the cathedral or you can buy the OPI Pass which costs €13 and this gives access to the cathedral, Piccolomini library, Museo dell'Opera del Duomo and Facciatone, Crypt and Baptistry. It is well worth paying the extra to visit all the other facilities. You can purchase the OPI pass online and book a time slot to visit the cathedral. This saves time not having to queue to enter. The crypt shows a number of old frescoes and the old cathedral below the current cathedral. The frescoes are impressive for their age. They are still clear and detailed for their age.

Nice building with a museum inside with lots of frescos and religious art pieces. We bought the pass with Torre Mangia climbing, this museum and another one for €20. Clean toilets and no crowds inside.

Probably one of the most iconic building of Siena, featured in James Bond’s Quantum of Solace with the rooftop chase while the horse race is happening on Il Campo, the big square in front of the building. The symmetry of the architecture is quite astounding, particularly the inner courtyard right after entering the Palazzo.

Do not miss this museum - put this alongside the Duomo and Piccolomini library as the 3 must sees in Siena. You really need to witness some of the ancient frescos depicting life in the 14th century. Check out wikipedia about the Palazzo and also under "The Allegory of Good and Bad Government". No queue off-season, can't say high season.

Simply stunning! It’s worth the visit! If you are visiting Siena take time to visit the palace and it’s wonderful terrace. We didn’t climb the tower due to knee problems.. what a pity…

Beautiful interior and sophisticated atmosphere - a nice place for a classy evening. The service was fantastic. The staff spoke English well and helped us make an reservation over the phone. The tripe ravioli was one of the most memorable and delicious dishes I’ve had in Italy. Come here if you’re looking for traditional Tuscany food in a more upscale setting.

We had pasta with human hair. Dealt with abruptly and with some aggression. Food was tasty but somehow unrefined and kinda weak truffle with almost every dish. Rapid service was at times felt rushed. Great wine and cool wine cellar

We came here on a recommendation from friends. The food was half and half I had the lasagna which I enjoyed but my wife got the risotto and was not as good. The traditional antipasti was good as you can see in the picture some wonderful prosciutto.

Very nice restaurant, looks authentic. Very friendly and professional service, delicious food, medium to high prices but it worth every penny. I had a boar in the oven and it was AMAZING. Advice: make a reservation first.

This was the best meal we had during our Italy trip. The owner was so nice to squeeze us in without a reservation. And it was the most special night. Someone at another table had a birthday and they went all out turning the lights down and singing. It was fantastic. Food wise, I loved my duck and potatoes and the dessert sampling-- wow! Such beautiful plating and delicious fresh ingredients but above that the staff is so exceptionally kind and efficient. We loved loved loved it!

Definitely one of the best restaurants for the famous ‘bistecca Fiorentina’. My family brought me here for my bday lunch and Wow ! Starters were incredible….most dishes with fresh truffles. Then the meat….cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. The service was super friendly and have time for everyone dining there. This restaurant has won Michelin Awards year after year after year and I know the reason why, it’s just a perfect and happy place with amazing food served with passion.

Oh my what a fantastic dinner. A team of service staff to feed you. Book your reservation as soon as you can. Fills up quick. Best meal of our 2.5 week trip. Wait staff speaks English.

We had an excellent lunch. The best food we eat in Siena. All 4 pasta dishes were amazing. The lasagna and the wild boar ragu with porcini mushrooms were mouthwatering. All deserts were good, but the standout was the chocolate cheesecake...just wow. The staff was very friendly. It is advised to book beforehand to ensure a table. Definitely not to be missed.

If you're looking for a more casual place for dinner but incredible quality- this is the place. Every single dish amazed me. I loved their potato/cheese starter. Their mains - delicious. You really can't go wrong on anything from this menu! One thing I wished I tried was their tiramisu. Make sure at the end to ask if you can visit the wine cellar!

Considering the reviews and challenge to secure a reservation, we went into the meal with very high expectations thinking we were about to have the meal of a lifetime. The food was good, but there was nothing about it that was anything special so we were a bit let down. I did really like the berry compote/jam which was a part of the meat and the dessert courses. A good home cook could replicate this level of quality easily. Again the food was not bad at all, but in my opinion this place has earned an over-hyped reputation, if I had gone in expecting just another solid Italian meal I would have left happily satisfied.

We had a wonderful time dining here. The wine menu is very extensive. The food is wonderful. The staff are very nice and friendly. It's a small tavern with not a lot of room, and it has, as a result, a cozy atmosphere. It can be a little hectic, but we felt at home.

This is one of our favorite places in Siena. You can never go wrong. The staff are always extremely polite and hospitable and the food is delicious. They can also accommodate food intolerances (they usually have gluten free bread - which is really nice and some other options). The restaurant interior is also very charming. Would definitely recommend. Just last time our risotto was unfortunately not very savory, but the staff were very nice and otherwise everything was amazing as always.

The restaurant had a very interesting/historic interior which felt like we were in a cave. The dishes were great apart from the lamb which did not go well with the sauce it came with (too flat), and the duck breast was over cooked so too tough. The owners were very welcoming

Excellent, higher end restaurant in the heart of ole Siena, situated in Tuscan cave/tomb situation. Beautiful decor that fits wonderfully with the ancient setting. Food is fresh, with a modern take. Seasonal ingredients, fresh and delicious. Service is very good. Keep this place for the one special meal you’d like to have in Siena.

This lovely restaurant is very unassuming from the outside, but once you step inside you'll feel immersed into a different world. The more you explore the restaurant, the more fascinating it becomes. Ask to be shown downstairs, if possible. The standard of food is high, I love the presentation and the very polished service.

An amazing restaurant within ancient Etruscian caves. The atmosphere alone is 5 star. The food was also well worth a visit. Each course was delicious and played beautifully. The only issue was the very long wait time between each course, and an even longer wait for our bill. That issue was minor compared to the awesome dining experience.

Great ambience but the food was only so so. The pasta was sort of overcooked and the ragu was quite bland. We also ordered a scallop dish and all the ingredients did not taste very fresh. Service was good. The place gets busy during lunch so recommended to book ahead.

My risotto was delicious. Like many restaurants in Italy, they take food allergies and intolerances very seriously. They accommodated my being gluten-free without issue. I most definitely recommend this restaurant.

Very fast service with great food. Got a duck noodle, rabbit noodle and pheasant dish for on 39 euro. It's a bit off the beaten path, so the prices are great. The food also had great flavours with large portions.

I can verify that there is indeed a reason why this place has so many positive reviews. Not only everything we have tried from the menu was delicious, prices were also really good and all waiters assigned to our table were very pleasant to interact with.

Ahhh what can I say about this restaurant. From the moment we walked in we were whipped up into the Italian atmosphere, busy busy busy but sooo friendly. We found out online that it was the oldest restaurant in Siena that served traditional food, exactly what we were looking for! The Pici pasta (first time we'd ever tasted) was incredible along with the mushroom ravioli. The dessert is what got me though, it was a pear and ricotta filling in between two pieces of homemade biscuit. The nicest dessert I have ever tried! Ever! And last but not least our lovely waiter from Lebanon. Unfortunately I didn't get his name but he made this experience so great and this restaurant will forever be remembered as out favourite in Siena ♥️ I hope the owners read this and pass on this message to the wonderful staff and team! The food is good. The location, although not in the center , is just nearby without all the fuss... Shady and nice in a warm day. The only con is the service. A bit slow if not to say lazy...

Maybe I shouldn't have tried the Fiorentine steak here cause it was kinda disappointing. However, I had what is potentially the best potato wedges ever. That potato was out of this world. The manager was not too thrilled to receive a solo guest at kate lunch hour and I didn't appreciate his attitude. But the rest of the staff and super nice and cheerful. Prices are not cheap but are reasonable I would say

This place is a must visit. The service was the best we’ve had in Italy, a real family atmosphere, and the staff were just so attentive…unlike the rest of Italy that we had experienced. The food was wonderful and very reasonably priced. Thanks so much for a wonderful time!

The food was good but the service was not so great. We ordered two pizzas one for each but we could have done with just one their size was more than we expected. The pizzas and the appetizer were delicious. The only down side was that we continuously tried to get the staff member’s attention to get our bill, I think they could be more attentive.

The food was alright but nothing special. The food came out quickly but other than that the waiters took their sweet time to clear the table or let us pay, I’ve seen them joke around while another table was waving several times, trying to pay. Also they have an obligatory 20%!! SERVICE CHARGE… ridiculous…

Came here as part of a tour (red flag!). Appetizer was nothing special and the pasta was ok by Italy standards (but probably better than most places in the states). Wine was too sweet, couldn’t even finish.

The best food we’ve ever had with my friends. It was really delicious, fresh and very well seasoned! The staff is also very kind and take care of us promptly. We recommend this restaurant for 100%! (And they also have gluten free pasta!)

Great experience. Staff were friendly and came to our table with drinks menus soon after we sat down. We didn't eat here because we already had our dinner but we had drinks and had a lovely view of Piazza del Campo and lovely atmosphere 😊

On the pricier side, the food tasted great but the portion sized were very inconsistent. The seafood spaghetti came in a large portion, the ravioli portion on the other hand was much smaller. We waited 45min for our food, the restaurant was very busy.

The Pizzas are great here, but the service is terrible. Most of the waiters are unfriendly and are lacking in communicating nor have the audacity to serve any customer. The waiting time is incredible until a waiter arrives at your table.

Absolutely delicious! The onion jam with the fried mozzarella balls sounded pretty weird, but it was the perfect dipping sauce. We also had the lasagna, pasta with bacon (can’t remember name), and a steak dish. The steak wasn’t very good so I don’t recommend it, but the pasta and appetizers were so good I didn’t take away a star for it. All this was plenty for a couple to share

Although the service was just decent - nice and attentive, but not particularly welcoming, this was an outstanding meal. The food speaks for itself with some simple yet very well executed home style cooking. Starting off, the onion soup and rabbit were both delicious. In enjoyed the herbs mixed with the latter. The risotto was excellent, perhaps just a touch heavy on the cream, but well cooked and flavorful. The steak was nicely seasoned for once, not needing an any additional salt. The grilled chicken was amazing - when they first set it on the table, I thought they had accidentally served us a small T-bone. It had the perfect amount of char and yet was still moist and succulent. Excellent food and at reasonable prices.

Really great food and amazing service. We’ve enjoyed the coniglio tonnato, pappa al pomodoro and incredible Fiorentina. Value for money could be slightly better, felt a little pricey and would have been nice to get the limoncello or coffee on the house :)

A truly life changing Fiorentina steak. I could order one just for my self. I enjoyed so much I was disappointed when it was over. I recommend this place not only for their excellent food, but for their excellent service and friendly staff. I will come here again no doubt. Great prices, great food, very nice deserts and nice wine. A true Tuscan experience. Congratulations to Osteria La Sosta di Volante.

Not expecting the good food at this place. The dishes were interesting and everything fresh home made. It had the best tiramisu i had in my two week vacation in Italy.

A friend recommended me this place and we loved it! We sat outside for lunch, very friendly and efficient service. Had tagliatelle with ragú di faraona and tagliata with rosemary, both delicious. Side dish veggie tortino was nice too, although not out of this world. For dessert chocolate flan (kind of coulant). Overall a very recommendable place to eat in Siena, apparently one of the top 3-5, hope to be back!

The food was average. The risotto was a bit too milky. The lasagna was probably the best dish. The staff was friendly, nothing to complain about.

Pici al ragu , paccheri, fiorentino, service, staff and interior - everything was perfect. We came back here on the second day for antipasti , and really enjoyed antipasti rabbit ! During the 1 st week of travelling in Tuscany this restaurant was the best expierience. Highly recommend to everyone who is foodie as us ! Grazi mille !

The food was so good that you almost don’t care about the waiters being cold to you. Amazing lasagna, the wine was incredible and the tiramisu… oh my, it was to die for. Atmosphere was nice and for summer night.
