Cool site. If you've been to Yellowstone and seen the geothermal parts of the park and liked it, come here! Photos don't do the park justice, so I've attached some terrible videos to give some insight into what you can see here. Parts of the park have a hydrogen sulfide smell but that's expected around geothermal springs. Really unique area, just be sure to stay on the path! You don't want to join the Maori warriors who were buried here. 🙂

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland and were thoroughly captivated by the experience. The well-maintained trails allowed us to easily explore this active geothermal area together. The preserved and highly active vents provided a mesmerizing spectacle, leaving us in awe of nature's power. The clear labeling of the various areas, along with detailed descriptions, made the trip not only informative but also enjoyable for both of us. Witnessing the vibrant colors of the Champagne Pool was an enchanting experience that we shared and cherished. Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland is a must-visit destination that can be enjoyed by couples, leaving them with lasting impressions and a deeper appreciation for the wonders of our planet.

Wow! this is a huge and absolutely amazing natural park. A place I've never seen before. It's really blows my mind, stimulates my curiosity and amazes me with the wondrous nature. We spent about 2 hours on this visit. At the entrance and also at the exit there are food and drink, souvenirs and toilets. You should bring water and go to the toilet before going in, no restrooms inside the park. Inside the park there are also very few seats and no roof so you should check the weather before going. Parking: yes

Our fault: we went on a blustery rainy day and paid for the entire 'tour'/walk' but didn't get a chance to experience anything at all. We had to turn back 10min into the walk! Oh well, I guess you can't do much about that! But nevertheless, nice place.

Champagne pool is beautiful and it's got heaps of warm steam. Lovely walkways, but it's too hot on a sunny day in summer with only few shelters and shades. There's a souvenir shop and a Cafe with vending machines at the entrance. Fast entry on Monday, plenty of carpark outside, and not crowded inside.

Must see! This area is very nicely laid out to get you up close to the thermal activity. Allow 2 hours to walk all three tracks. Each one is more interesting than the next. A bit of the walking can be strenuous, but just go slow and take your time. It's worth it! The tracks are all clearly marked and the walking route through the park is easy to follow. Wonderful Waiotapu!!! This place is really mind blowing. A must visit place in North Island. There are 3 different walking trails, all are linked with each other making the walking level easier to moderate. Please make sure you have shoes with good grip on a wet day as the surfaces can be slippery. Would recommend to carry enough water for yourself to keep hydrated and food if needed. Plenty of places to sit and eat with family/friends.

One of the 20 Most Surreal Places in the World. Visitors can choose one or all of three walks which take between 45 and 90 minutes. It was a fantastic experience walking around the volcanic city -Rotoroa, New Zealand. Got a chance to enjoy the unique features include the world famous Champagne Pool naturally coloured springs, bubbling mud, steaming ground, expansive vistas, huge volcanic craters and sinter terrace formations. But this wonderland is currently closed. There is an entrance fee to get in this place around NZ$ 30.00+ for adults.

New Zealand vacation day 4 - visited one of New Zealands most popular geothermal site. Place is huge and very impressive. Gives everyone a better appreciation of our planet and how active an area New Zealand is. The sites should offset the smell...by a bit! Their gift store has some nice items as well. Definitely a stop everyone should go to when visiting New Zealand!

This thermal park is amazing. The tracks are very easy to follow, and the information signs are easy to read and give you all the information/facts in easy to understand wording. All our family (10 people) enjoyed the experience. Everything is well maintained and clean and tidy. The facilities are pristine, including the toilets. The staff are polite and very friendly, thank you :-)

A wonderful morning spent walking around different tracks seeing beautiful geothermal sights. $85 for a family which is very reasonable. 3 different routes but are all linked. Track 2 and 3 would be difficult with a pushchair or wheelchair as there are steps going down.. minimum 30 steps down. Lovely being able to get so close to a natural wonder.

It was really such a nice walk in the redwoods forest that you will feel to remain there forever. We took 1 hr track which is blue one. You have the option to take three walk which we will plan in night time later but overall it was a wonderful break in Rotorua. Would love to visit again anytime.

You just can't go wrong coming here. Sure it gets a bit busy sometimes but walking among these giant trees and the cool fresh air is always worth it. They have various clearly marked tracks with different difficulty levels ranging from 30mins to 3.5hrs, from comfy family walk to some fairly steep walks Can also grab a nice coffee at the end or even do some of the awesome canopy walks

This is one beautiful forest with plenty of large majestic trees. I could spend all day soaking up the scenery. There is one set of toilets at the front entrance along with a small shop. I wouldn't recommend use of wheelchairs or strollers as the tree roots are everywhere! There are horses around the tracks which is great to see and loads of mountain bike riders. You can opt to take a short track which is good for small children (follow the signs) will be coming back for sure!

Perhaps ignorance on our part however we were quite shocked to find out that the forest was actually non-native trees. Equally surprising is how fast these must grow to become the massive impressive glorious looking trees at the forest. We took the tree walk and later noticed that many others were also walking thru forest floor. We noticed all the signs stating not to touch the bark of the trees to avoid damaging it - I agree. However could not help noticing that were the walkway is connecting to the trees that the barks are getting compressed and are sorting to bulge below and above the connections and straps. I understand the commercial attractiveness of the tree walks versus walking on the forest floor.

We went for a hike and took the Pohaturoa track (yellow arrows) which took us a little over 2 hours. The trail had many beautiful lookouts facing both the mountains and the lake, and many photo opportunities amongst the trees. The first part of the route is mostly under the open sky, and the latter part being covered in the forest. The track itself was relatively smooth; easy to intermediate in difficulty. I would highly recommend this track to anyone who loves nature to experience these trails for themselves!

Great place for spending a few hours with family. You can choose to take the ground track for free, or tree top path if you pay. The bridges have plenty of of connection points and relatively high walls, therefore they feel safe even though they’re suspended bridges and wobbly. The parking lots inside are limited, but there’s a lot of parking spots along the road outside.

Such an awesome place to visit. Our guide had great knowledge of the village and it's rich history. Also his knowledge of the geothermal pools was amazing! He made sure everyone in the tour group was well looked after despite the downpour we faced on our tour. Also, the geothermal corn tasted quite nice! Would definitely recommend visiting this place and also doing the guided the tour.

Amazing place to go and visit. Being from England we never get to learn about all the different cultures of this part of the world. It’s amazing to see how the people live and it really is inspiring. I've always ❤ ♥ 💕 held Whakarewarewa the living village in high esteem. Its always touched and woke me to my Ngati Tuhoe, through my mum, and bc i am so much like my mum, maori culture thrills and enlightens my being to be enhanced, when i cruised in today, thats just it, Its got atmosphere, its got mystery, its got some of the best indigenous carving. If I can, i always go to this very special place, to find my calm, my grace, i feel at ease. Even as a little child, ive been keen and fascinated with the whole experience i can't rate it enough and personally you know why it is this . I've given it the full 6 stars but really it rates a 21 star salute. Also to those who fought willingly in the world wars over on the otherwise shadow side in the top part of the eurocentrics world. Here, even from this alive and living organism, this village remembers them, our young men , for it is writ on the bridge entrance of the carved great monuments, informing us , quietly, that some of our race, will stand and fight for other nations of people. Its what makes new zealanders do remarkable and God knows this. I write this missive article while casually strolling and very humbly respecting every stone and wood there, forevermore. A must do when visiting Rotorua. A realistic look into a Living Maori Village. Staff at reception are professional, friendly and know the meaning of delivering great customer service. Our guide was excellent with a wide knowledge of the history. She had us fixated from start to finish. The performance was very entertaining, not too long which was good. The performers really went the extra mile. Good value for money. Suitable for all ages.

Beautiful trails through the geothermal area, with guided tours available. We enjoyed spending a morning walking around the trails, and viewing the cultural information. The entry fee is the lowest we found in the area, and it's great to know that the money is going straight to a community.

One of my favorite places to go. Went here on a solo trip and I can't wait to come back with my family and friends. The people were BEYOND friendly and kind. My tour guide was the sweetest and hand so many jokes and genuine historical accounts to provide. My advice is to follow your guide and then tour the grounds on your own because you'll get the best experience that way. Get the corn, get a lot of hangi pie. My biggest regret is not getting 10 of them for myself. Thanks for such an amazing experience to everyone there and for allowing others to your your home.

A very cool experience! If you’re considering visiting, I recommend it! There are two halves to the village - the village itself, and the geothermal park. Both require different tickets, and neither is cheap. However, I recommend visiting both as the village is a unique cultural and learning experience while the park is full of stunning scenery. If you have some time to spare, the performance is also worth watching!

Eye-opening experience. Very kind and hospitable people welcoming you into a slice of living history. The importance and beauty of this place seeps into you along with the steam. Take the guided tour for a little extra money, the insight you will be offered is invaluable and worth every cent! This is something very special you cannot afford to miss.

It was a robbery, spending 120 dollars to see a sleeping Kiwi and a guide who asked us what we knew about Kiwis. The most of the entire park was closed and honestly the visit that was supposed to take an hour ended up being 30 min. It would have been better to lose the money on the way than to do this experience. I do not recommend it at all. If there was 0 star or one negative star, I would include it.

I loved the park because of its variety of display. You can see different animals with little descriptions about them. Water splash is very entertaining for adults and kids. And my favorite, I got a chance to see Kiwi birds. Wasn't so happy that, I admit it was my mistake, to accept the offer of seeing the park myself, by the cashier lady, rather than having a guide . Few spots were closed for public and that was also not mentioned when purchasing ticket.

Definitely recommend going on the free guided tour if its your first time as you learn so much and is quite interesting. They have play areas and interactive learning spots located throughout to keep the kids busy on the way through. The big splash ride was cool but all the speakers throughout no longer worked which was very disappointing. The cafe was average tidy and nicely decorated but bathrooms were not cleaned often enough and the food was overpriced and just okay. They offer free shows through out the days which are quite interesting and fun for the kids.

Last August, I visited Redwoods Treewalk in Rotorua, and that time the weather is not fair and it really is cold. Everything was really fantastic, it feels like I was on the movie set of the Twilight, because of the ambiance and the Redwoods that is amazingly huge. Strolling in the trail was my favorite, I was enamored with nature and it really give the sense of peace and tranquility. Unfortunately, I did not try the suspended walkways above the trees, because that time it was a bit drizzling and very cold. But for sure I will go back there and have it a try especially during the night time it has a better experience also, but part of the experience has a fee but strolling in the woods have no entrance fee. Definitely, I recommend this place to everyone to visit, especially to the bagpackers and tourists on holiday vacations.

The Redwoods Treewalk was one of my favorite experiences in all of New Zealand! The place was absolutely packed but once you got up in the trees everyone spread out pretty well and you didn't really feel like there were that many people around you. Just seeing the forest in a different light (literally) at night was absolutely amazing. The bridges feel stable, but I can see where they could make someone feel uneasy if they didn't like heights. There are also some areas where you can walk under them and seeing the layout of bridges against the Redwoods was a very cool sight as well. I highly recommend this experience if you like forests and adventures!

In short this is a great walk. It's well worth the money but I would say if possible do it at night. I did it the next day as well and while it's still fun it is nowhere near as spectacular. Of course the advantage of doing it in the day time is that if you want to read the information panels at the stops it is much easier, but they are all lit at night so it is possible to read them still. If you go back within 3 days your second visit is free. Well worth it and I'll be going again at least a couple more times when I take friends over.

My husband and I had a great time here. It did rain a bit during our visit, but we didn't mind. It actually made the forest look more vibrant and lush. There are 28 suspension bridges and lots of redwood trees. Admission is $39.00 for 16 and over. $24.00 for ages 5-15 and free for anyone younger than that. No need to purchase tickets in advance.

This is such an incredible experience at night; you feel like you are in a magical wonderland. Each bridge leads to a different light feature, and there are information boards and a seat at most trunk stops. They even have specially designed prams for your younger people to sit in if needed. I recommend taking the high road with the lit up bridges to get an even more breathtaking view.

We've yet only been to the night walk but it was so amazing. The photos aren't great, far more impressive if you go there youself. The bridges and height might be a bit scary at first, but soon you'll tell it is very safe. Perfect for nightwalks, they even have discounts for NZ Super! It is really amazing how these California Redwoods can grow so huge, and they also capture loads of carbon dioxide and sustain our planets. Staff members also friendly. Thank you to the trees and the stuff members :)

👍: -Very very, very beautiful, you must come and visit this attraction. There are day walks and night walks. If you have to choose, take the night walk. It is lighted up beautifully at night. You will not regret coming here at night. -Best to come around 15 to 30 minutes before the sun sets so you can get some of the day views before the set is lighted up and after it is. -You can book online so you don't have to come down in person. But do make reservations early as the time slots may be fully booked. 👎: -It can get pretty cold inside the forest, so bring adequate warm clothes, especially during winter times. We were there during May, and it got to below 10 degrees inside the forest. -There are restrictions of a maximum number of people on each platform and plank, so if you wanna take pictures, you'll have to let the guys behind move ahead, or else you'll be blocking everyone.

This is one beautiful forest! I was in awe of the giant trees and scenery including horses. Easy walking track for younger children and great toilet facilities (which are at the entrance only) I will come back on my own to do more challenging walks. Not wheelchair friendly. Mind passing bikes on road.

Stunning forest! It's definitely worth the money as you get to come back a second time for free - ideal as you need the daylight to see the redwoods and the nighttime to see the lighting display. A great, unique evening activity. Lovely ground-level walks to do, too. Can really make a day of it. Toilets could use a little TLC :)

Very interesting tree walk. No doubt this will be a really MUST do before leaving Rotorua. It is such a good opportunity in lifetime to mesmerize the tall trees of redwoods. We took our own sweet time walked around the entire swing bridge. Highly recommended activity 😊👍

This is a must do attraction for Rotorua visitors. If you are afraid of heights there is no need to worry, this is a very safe and secure tree walk attraction, and the staff are excellent. I highly recommend doing the walk at night, where the light show makes the experience much more special. Do not miss!

Decent food. Ordered Lamb Seek kebab- not great- was reheated. Couldn’t take a picture Beef Vindaloo- say 3 stars Naan- fresh and good 4 Chicken Tikka- was nice 3stars Overall good.

I came here with a friend, just for a quick lunch break. I’ve never been to an indian restaurant before, the lady serving us was okay. She didn’t really engage with us and didn’t ask how our meal was. I ordered a delicious vegetarian meal and lamb kababs, it was the most amazing taste I have ever tasted. Presentation was beautiful. Thank you Chefs, the nice lady at the checkout asked how our meals were, she was super nice and changed our perception of the place. Highly Recommended.

Straight up, one of the best Indian restaurants I have been in NZ. The food is amazing, really good!! The staff are a little slow, slower than usual to be honest so if the customer service was a tad bit better it would be ideal. However, if your a picky eater and love Indian food I would def 100000% recommend this place.!

Simple but satiating serve for two: plain/butter naan with Veg Jalfrezi - a day ended well with their lovely service!

Every time I come to Rotorua for a getaway, I proactively add this place as a go-to on my itinerary. The restaurant is great, the service is great, the food is great. Chicken Korma and Tikka Masala are great options here (get them medium spicy for that nice spicy kick!). If you have space in your belly, add in the vegetable samosas.

The food at Indian Star Restaurant is exceptional! Very tasty, fresh, and well prepared. I love the service at the place and all staffs are so friendly with the guests and always takes care to offer the best quality! I highly recommend this place.

The location inside the eat street . The interior is very simple nice staff is very efficient welcoming.The food was great in taste but quantity is very low.

Worst experience ever. Had to wait for over an hour for our starter. We ordered tandoori soya chaap and It was not fully cooked. Really bad. We patiently enough waited for our dinner and it was same- not fully cooked. I attached the photos of the naan and it’s not cooked properly and the food was not even fresh.

Came in a group of 21 for a work do. The staff were incredibly friendly and made sure our food came out together. The prices were very reasonable and the food was great, easily the best curry I've had in Rotorua. I would recommend, and I will be back.

Very taste dinner. Love the ribs Juicy and tasty. Service was very good even prepared lemon water and hand wipe for consumers to clean their hand after the heavy meal. The cheese ball is well done with light seasoning. The chutney is real good to consume with the cheese ball. Beer is awesome quality as well. Can't complain. 10 out of 10.

Warm, spacious, awesome vibe. The food was amazing and it's portions size is something I'm not used to cos Auckland gives less haha loved the background music. Family friendly and the setting of the pub reminds me of old school English and Irish bars. The staff were very inviting and friendly, the food came out pretty quickly too. This place offers the classic kiwi pub / bar experience with great service and really yummy classic kiwi pub grub. I had the pork belly which was absolutely delicious. My wife had the open steak sandwich (has a full size piece of steak) which was also delicious. For anyone unfamiliar with this style of food, it is designed to offer a generous portion, with the meat being the star of the show. There are no fancy spices or complicated side dishes or sauces. Just really deliciously seasoned and extremely well executed food. It has great beer on tap as well.

It's a popular bar and eating place. A lot of live sports screens, seating is pretty well spaced. Great beers on tap. I found the pork ribs to be pretty lean but tasty enough. My wife's steak and chips was nice.

Visited 31 Aug 2023 for lunch. Fabuluss service and delicious food in a clean and comfortable venue. Our server was fantastic and extremely efficient and caring. She rocked. Just sorry we never got her name. Loved it and highly recommend to all!!

From the tear and share loaf, to the pork belly, everything was delicious. Grandchildren really enjoyed the garlic bread, so much so, one was unable to eat there meatballs and linguine, son n law loved his pork ribs and my two girls, well, let's just say they liked there alcohol beverages. We got there 6.30pm so not really too busy. Atmosphere was great. Thanks...

Best fish and chips in NZ so far. The price is a bit high but the food is really good. It came real fast, it was delicious and the portion was more than enough. Fresh and hot food with live fire pit and lots of customers means only one thing. We are coming back :)

We had just finished walking thru the Rotorua Night Market and decided to have dinner here. The front of the restaurant was brightly lit with fairy lights around the large tree in front and called attention to the classic building where the restaurant is. We didn't have a booking and was lucky to get in as it was still early in the evening. We ordered the special lamb shanks and the pork belly. Food, drinks and service was good! Definitely recommended pub for dining and drinks.

Booked buffet lunch as a combo with luge rides. The setting gives a great view of Rotorua, the lake and the surrounding area. The selection of food is amazing and the quality is very good. If one is going for lunch then it is best to skip breakfast. Selection of desserts can be improved and doesn’t befit a restaurant of this calibre. The staff on duty were very helpful. They are appreciative of people with religious dietary restrictions and acted as excellent guides. Price is always a relative issue but for the overall experience it is very very worth it.

Incredible food. Very good price for what you get. The guy working the bar around 7pm on the 23rd of April was the best bar tender. He loved his job so much and was super helpful and knowledgable. Definitely needs a pay rise!! The buffet was incredible and every food there was fresh and tasty. Including the deserts!

First time to try their buffet dinner here and we enjoyed our experience. For the price we paid I think it was reasonable enough thinking it included the Gondola ride which was one of the highlights of the experience. Atmosphere was ok, there were a lot of people and kids running around. Views are good, but maybe it was better if we stayed until dark and we might have better views of the city lights. We paid for a premium seat which guarantees us a seat with views but I don't think it would be much different if we chose a normal seating. Food was delicious and had heaps to chose from. In the end we had our bellies full and enjoyed the views. Would recommend to try at least once if around town.

Liked it mostly because we had a gorgeous view of the city while we dined. Compared to other buffet restaurants, this one had a little bit more variety but not as much as I expected. Quality wise, it was pretty good. The dessert selection was okay. Good for special occasions.

great food and lovely atmosphere. $79pp gondola+lunch. very nice and accommodating staff. mussels+white wine sauce was yum, seafood chef was friendly too.

We were first here at 12pm on the dot. We ordered friend chicken which unfortunately contained a ton of coriander. Two people on our table are allergic to coriander so they had to be returned. I would recommend that any ingredients that are particularly divisive (coriander, chili, etc) are noted on your menu. Apart from that, it was okay, nothing special. We used a voucher so food was half price. There was also a hair in our food - see photo 5. Not nice to see!

The customer service was lovely but that's about all I can compliment this restaurant on. I was extremely excited to go to Atticus Finch after not been able to get a seat two weeks ago. We ordered an old fashioned lemonade and a Mr Cummingham... both were well below our expectations (the old fashioned lemonade tasted like watery lemon and the Mr Cummingham tasted so strong of bourbon and nothing else) Although disappointed we were still excited for our food.... sadly this was another disappointment.... the Spice Rubbed Seared Beef was nice at times and so tough I had to swallow it whole at times... The Pork Belly was clearly so overcooked it was grey... I was able to cut through the crackle easier than the pork.... I won't even get started on the confusion of the salad that came with it.... but do not put cinnamon with Kumara.... you just end up with a dessert tasting salad. Unfortunately won't be back again

Had dinner here with the family. Staff were really friendly and the service was awesome. Food was delivered to our table quickly. Our favorites were the prawn roti, spice rubbed lamb and salt crusted pork belly with the macaroni and cheese side dish . The desserts were immaculately presented. Olive oil ice cream and chocolate fudge cookie were the standouts.

A solid dining experience in the heart of Rotorua with room for improvement. The staff were friendly and despite an initial delay in our waitress attending us, they were incredibly attentive. The food was tasty and high quality, but could come in smaller portions which were a little cheaper to aid the sharing aspect. The food itself was very very tasty, we had the fried halloumi, the prawns, the fried fish of the day and the lamb rump! All were very very tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed them! Overall a good experience and we are glad we visited.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Tapas style eating. Dishes were all very tasty and the cocktail menu was something a bit different

The food was delicious! We got the fried sesame chicken and the sirloin, the pork dumplings, the corn chips with beans and avocado. A warm chocolate fudge cookie for dessert. Amazing! All of it!

3.9 | food was rather variable. Some dishes were delicious like the broccolini while others like the pot stickers were rather bland. Service was great and very friendly. Atmosphere is fun as it's one a street with lots of other restaurants and 'action' around it.

We showed up without reservation at 6:45 pm. Gentleman working front handled things well. He explained we could get a table but may be 45 to 50 minutes before our food would come. That was fine with us and we enjoyed a glass of wine and ordered bruschetta. The bruschetta was a mix or tomato and olive and we would have preferred it to be one or the other. Gnocchi was good and the lamb was delicious. I would eat that lamb anytime. Staff was all hard working and seemed to work as a team. Good experience

I must say had a wonderful experience what an ambience , customer service , abd trust me our veg pizza was super delicious , we never had that delicious pizza before in Nz overall its must eat place in rotorua. Thanks to they boy who served us i can only identify him cz of his different nepali hairstyle. Thanks dude. ❤️

We had mushroom chicken alfredo, carbonara, seafood Mariana pasta and DF pizza with vegan cheese, everyone enjoyed their meal! Elderflower cocktail was yummy too! Servers were friendly and smiley, provided great service! Thanks! can’t say the same about the guy (might be floor supervisor/manager?) at the cashier though - he seemed little low/unwelcoming mood and was my exit experience for a lovely meal with great company.

New Zealand vacation day 3 - went down to Eatery Street to look for a place to have dinner. My sons wanted to try Italian. Place was busy but they had room for us inside. Service was a bit slow but food was good. Especially the mussels. Atmosphere was lively and staff very friendly.

Really nice place with a great selection of Italian food, friendly helpful staff and decent beer. Between us we had the Lobster and Prawn Ravioli, Seafood chowder, Prawn Risotto chips and Garlic bread. All were very nice and filling. Desserts were also good.

Cannelloni was great, meat was tender. My daughter enjoyed the spaghetti bolognese and said this was the best she ever had. Service was awesome. Great food must try. Though I thought the panna cotta was a bit dense, would have loved if it was soft and moist.

Pasta and pizza was fine. We were not happy with the service. People serving us were in a hurry to take unfinished food from our table. It was 30 minutes until closing time so we had more than enough time to sit at the table and finish our dinner.

This place is a bit overrated, we decided to go there based on the previous positive (majority) reviews. We ordered a pizza, burgers and Cannelloni. The pizza base looks like the ones from the frozen pre-made in the supermarket/Gilmours, the taste is pretty average and toppings are okay. The chicken patty from the burger also reminds me of the Top Hat range frozen products. The beef and the lamb patties of the burgers are definitely in-house made but they caused the buns to be very soggy when you are eating it -due to excessive fat/juice within the patties. The braised lamb shoulder from Cannelloni taste very similar to the lamb burger patty, assuming they have used the same thing in both dishes? Overall not much taste to it and most dishes are pretty plain. The services and the atmosphere are great 5/5! The food definitely needs improvement or is this place just overhyped?!
