“The city by the sea'' Newport, Rhodes Island, is a popular summer destination for history buffs. The city’s opulent mansions are a major tourist attraction, including the Breakers' 50-room mansion inspired by Louis XIV's Palace of Versailles, and the Rosecliff Castle, which was used in the filming of "The Great Gatsby." Newport is also known as the historic sailing capital of the world. Many events are held year round to celebrate this history, including the Newport Jazz Festival, the annual Newport Regatta, as well as many art festivals.
