A place worth seeing and visiting. The whole vibe did remind me of the movie “Spirited Away”. It’s definitely a tourist spot here too. There’s plenty of food here. Great for sight seeing and also photo’s. You can enjoy a beautiful sunset here as well. I would avoid coming during the weekend’s because it gets very very crowded and the streets are narrow so it can get pretty cramped at times. All in all, it’s a good place to visit if you haven’t been.

A must visit attraction in Taiwan. The view from up here is simply breathtaking. Whether you come here in the afternoon or evening, both have its own amazing view. At around 6pm the street lamps will be on and the atmosphere is really romantic and worth taking pictures. There are many delicious restaurants here, my favorite is always the iced taro right in front of the post office. There’s also a 7-11 right at the entrance, and two public restrooms; one at the entrance and one in the middle. They have several homestays and hotels if you are interested to stay for the night, but the parking areas are quite expensive (in my opinion) and really crowded during peak season.

It is a nice area with nice view of the sea and coastline. I have visited twice and enjoyed both times. Spirited Away made this place more well known. There are many snack and drink stalls competing for business by giving free samples of their product. Good for a half day visit.

One of the most visited old streets in Taiwan. Can take a long walk all around for hours enjoying the traditional delicacies and treating our eyes with the arts and crafts. It is a very different feeling when you visit it during the day and night and I would prefer the later to see the lights along the landscape.Simply beautiful! I reckon the most profitable business there is renting the parking space. That's something that I felt was super expensive especially with the car. Counting as one of the most famous spots in the country, it is quite reasonable though. If you are somewhere in the north of Taiwan, make sure you visit Jiufen at least once and if possible stay till it gets dark to see the splendid beauty of Jiufen.

A place like from a fairy tale, especially "Spirited Away" 🙂 Very easy access from Taipei. Plenty of food, souvenirs and beautiful views of the bay. It is a must to stay until dark when the lanterns light up. The famous tea house besieged by photographers. Try to arrive during the weekdays to avoid crowds.

Very crowded and touristy but still rather enjoyable. Not exactly sure if it’s worth the hassle of getting to it since transportation isn’t terribly convenient. The sweeping views of the mountains and the sea at sunset were gorgeous though so it really is a toss up between time and convenience.

This town which was an isolated small village until the discovery of gold in 1893 was originally built by the Japanese and quickly developed the town due to a gold rush. Many buildings in the town are preserved to this day and now a maze of alleyways and lanes with rich culture and history. Nowadays, Jiufen is a popular destination that remembers and celebrates Taiwanese history and culture. A day tour may not be enough to explore and enjoy the place. Early reservation may be necessary if you want to stay overnight since the guesthouses and hotels can easily fill-up specially on weekends.

It is a small hill town with gold mine history painted on it. It is one of the popular stops for a weekend to hang out with your friends and enjoy shopping, the cafeteria, street foods, clothes, footwear, and lots more. Spirited away movie is inspired by this town. It is well connected to public transportation from Taipei and Songshan. It has a public and private parking area.

The place was so crowded. But being a shopaholic, I enjoyed combing through the narrow streets and seeing lots of things to buy and eat. Various souvenirs were sold at very affordable prices and the food there was amazing. The people were so nice and friendly. Alas, the old world village charm was not visible on the cliff side that I was hoping to experience. Maybe you'll only be able to see it at night when the lanterns are on.

Great place to visit. In fact, it is a must visit whenever one is in Taipei. Lots of stairs as it us on a slope. Hence, exploring this place will help to provide one with a good amount of exercise. Food options are plenty. Shops selling local food stuff and tea are generous in providing samples with no obligations to buy. The taro balls dessert shops are plenty and really good.

Mini beautiful town that close to Taipei city, either getting there by a public bus straight to the town or public train then take a short bus to there. The atmosphere is amazing, you can see the sea and islands. Located on the mountain the town is small but pretty, I would recommend to stay over a night to experience the quite night but full of lights. Make sure you need to grab dinner at the local restaurants before 7.30 pm after that 90% of restaurants are closed. There is also 7/11 in case you missed.

This is my go-to happy place whenever I visit Taiwan. The heat did not stop me. Though it may just sound like rocks, there's so much to see here, even my third time back. The waters are so blue and the rock formations are really beautiful. This is truly nature at its finest. In the summer, I suggest coming as early as possible so it's not as hot, not to mention there's way less people. We arrived around 10am on a weekend and stayed for two hours. Bring an umbrella to shield from the sun as there's not much shade. The breeze from the waters was refreshing and made the scorching sun more bearable. Tickets are 120NT per person.

Been here the last time. That time was more winter season. It’s summer now and it’s super hot. Would suggest to bring umbrella and lots of sun screen. The crowd is definitely lesser so you can take great photos without anyone photo bomb your work. I think there is also night sessions to see the queen’s head as well but it starts at 6:30pm onwards and requires a separate ticket if I am not wrong. I think it’s limited time till August 2023.

A beautiful hotspot with natural Geography. You will see how powerful weathering from nature's amazing. Of course, you will find out how interesting the naming is from people's imaginations. Well, we had lots of fun there, with all of you love it too.

Wow!! Roaring Pacific Ocean, amazing looking rock formations along with a few iconic ones too. This area has a completely otherworldly feel to it. A great stroll. It would take about 1.5 hours to see most of the rock formations along the main trail. But if you are keen, you can spend more than half a day going till the end of the trail till the tip of the islet. Entry fee - NTD 200.

A natural scenic spot! So excited natural scene. The area is well manage. You can take a long walk to the edge for more exotic stone (perhaps on the good weather day). The place is family and child friendly, has a ramp for the wheelchair and stroller. The dried seafood souvenir shops is at the exit. Worthy place to visit!

A must-go if you have never been! Still an enjoyable and intriguing place for repeated visits! Beautiful unique natural scenery! Located about 1 hour from Taipei. Very cool rock formations formed both by coastal and wind erosion. There are boardwalks which will take you about 1.5 to 2.5 hours to explore the place. Can buy klook vouchers to avoid queuing.

My 2nd time to visit the Geopark in 5 years. Much have changed. The boardwalks have improved, especially at the area around the rock formations. We came at noontime so it was very hot and humid. Good thing that there are shaded areas and sheds where people can stay and rest. But the area where the rock formations are could be too much to bear at noon time. Tourists must have hats or umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun. Must bring water, too. Very important. The tourist center is a nice, multi-level building with souvenir shop and a nice cafe. Clean restrooms. Entrance to the park is NT$120/person. The park opens from 8am - 6pm. The restaurant that we ate at 5 years ago called "Shark", was no longer there.

If you are a fan of the “miracle Earth” and lack of vitamin Sea, this place is a must visit in Taiwan. The geological park is within a specific zone that you have to get a ticket of 120TWD/adult (60TWD for students with student ID). Highly recommend a gentle walk towards Guihou Fisherman’s market and Emerald Bay Beach after you finish the feast of rock mushroom, ice cream and the Queen’s head in the geological park. The route to the fisherman’s market and the beach is stunning, so don’t miss it! Can enjoy various seafood here as well.

When you first get there by bus 1815, you’ll start walking, you can see temples along the way. There are tiny market stalls outside of the park and they sell lots of snacks and souvenirs. The tickets are reasonably priced at 120NT per person. Unfortunately the student price is for Taiwan students only. There are a few attractions inside. The queens head were saved for last. We hiked all the way to the end of the peninsula and reached the top observation high. Great views! Heading back down, there were also spur steps that could lead to the lighthouse and also down closer to the water. Overall the walk Took around one and a half hours to two hours.

Whether you're a geology enthusiast or simply seeking stunning natural beauty, this place is a must-see for anyone visiting Taiwan's northern coast. The rock formations "Queen's Head" and "Sea Candles" are fascinating results of nature's work over time. Lovely and beautiful coastal views here. P/s: The weather can get really hot, remember to apply sunscreen if you're concerned about sun exposure.

shi fen old street is an old rail way station, can find some food and shops here, may get your souvenir here as well

It's very touristy, but it's definitely a unique location. You can walk right along the tracks, freely crossing back and forth, browsing the stores and enjoying the different yummy snacks, watching people release lanterns on the tracks and contending with the calls of promoters wanting you to do the same. It's fun when the trains come by, too, every hour or so. I don't regret coming here.

I first saw this place on an advertisement, and decided to visit it by myself. I was not disappointed. The experience is really unique. The street is really small and can be packed during peak hours. The parking areas are spacious but you do need to walk some distance to get to the street. If you take the train, the route is a bit complicated and time consuming, but the view you can see during your journey is worth the time. After you’ve arrived, the sole activity here is the lantern. It costs NT$250 for me (4 colours) and I get to keep a polaroid photo of me releasing the lamp, or an extra NT$30 for each additional polaroid picture. They also have some souvenir stores and some snacks to purchase (I love the chicken stand right outside the train station’s entrance/exit), but other than that, nothing else. There is a beautiful waterfall nearby, and it’s not that difficult to go as well, although you have to go by foot. There is also an old bridge with amazing view nearby, but beware if you’re afraid of heights. I heard from locals that many people dislike the place and the activity because it’s not exactly environmental friendly. I haven’t researched much about this, but if you are someone who is concern and believe in this topic, research first before your visit.

Sky lantern and the old railway is the best part of this place. Remind me of childhood times, must visit if you are in Taiwan.

If you are wondering if this is the place for sky lantern release...Yes! Cost is around 150 for single color and 200 for four colors and the shop owners will usually help to snap still shots and videos of the lantern release! Also, the Shifen waterfall is about half an hour walk from here...so be prepared to have an umbrella at least to shield u from the scorching sun during the walk down..it's worth it..

The old town is full of Chinese style, the roads are surrounded by mountains and hills, and you can move the train directly to the old town. The food is diverse and there are many interesting things waiting for you to discover, release the sky lanterns, go for a walk, and check in... It is said that this place is allowed to release sky lanterns because of its special position that can control the flight of the lights. and collect them after they fall.

Nothing to see. All tourist. The street is very short too. Not much shops there. The only thing you can do here is to fly a lantern. Or walk 30 minutes to see the waterfall nearby, which is literally nothing too. Not say it’s not nice, but there are other better waterfalls or streets you could have visited. Don’t waste your time here.

Two ways that I would sum this place up i.e. (1) lantern and (2) railway crossing. This is the only place in Taipei that one is allowed to put off the traditional lantern. One is recommended to write their wishes on the lantern (with ink and paintbrush provided by the shop that sold you the lantern) before it is lit up and released. An advise, do not settle for the lantern sold once you arrive. Walk further in either to the left of right side of the railway tracks and prices will be cheaper for the same thing. On the railway tracks, it pretty much runs parallel to the shops. When the train is arriving, the shop owners will help caution and clear the tracks. It is as close as one gets to a moving trains. All in, it was a good experience.

Cute little downtown area with the train running through the center. Loads of great street food. The peanut ice cream crepe is worth the trip alone! Get it with parsley, yes parsley. Somehow the ice cream, peanuts,parsley and crepe work 😋 all for $50NT

The Sky Lantern process is impressive and enchanting. I was mesmerized by the skill and expertise surrounding the affair. We went during the pouring rain, which did not put a damper on the occasion. I did not find a moment where I did not want to photograph the fantastic things happening around me. I recommend going and would go so far as to say a trip to Taiwan is incomplete without visiting Shifen.

Very good place for lantern festival.Plenty of gift shops available. Many food stalls is there. Change train from Ruifang when you're going there from Taipei. Beautiful people

Located in Pingxi District New Taipei City... Not that far from Taipei itself but the road condition a bit challenging for some people. Famous of flying lantern on day light and its Railroad tracks. Culture streets that suitable to visit by tourist where you may enjoy not only some souvenirs shopping also DIY programs.... Flying lantern. Great place to release the hot air lanterns that carry your best wishes for health, wealth and happiness up into the sky. I hear there are special teams that hunt down these lanterns after the fuel burns out and they land somewhere. More eco friendly but not a lot of fun compared with us launching the lanterns.

There are lots of shops selling lanterns and food by the side of the railway. The train doesn't seem to operate here as there were lots of people on the railroad. Lanterns cost around 200 NTD and you can whatever you want to write for 4 sides (good to have 4 friends) before they assemble the sheets for you before you fly it. The lanterns are made of plastic. I am not sure about how they retrieve the fallen down lanterns from the nature, looks environmentally unfriendly but was a good experience. The area has less food options compared to other Old Streets. This is mainly for lanterns, souvenirs and photographing.

An absolutely spectacular place. A must visit for all Taiwan visitors. Some food stands and gift shops. But the most spectacular is the train tracks that cross the main street and seeing the train go by.

Old railroad line surrounded by food stalls and lantern shops. People buy and write on their lanterns then light them up on the railroad. Quite interesting for the 1st visit, not so much for 2nd visit. There is a train station at the end and also a suspension bridge. Nothing amazing but everything is well kept.

Nice place to visit with family and kids. Street foods all is so good and village feel. Can rent a bicycle, either 4, 2 or 1. So nice leisure trip.

You can get there by a boat from Tamsui. A good spot for strolling and cycling. Recommended for those who want to relax and get away from city center.

The old street is located on the other side of Tamsui street, it can reach by ferry from the tamsui side at an affordable price. Bali street is a combination of walking, bicycle tracks, and trails with some food and shopping vendors near the trails. You can rent a bicycle or u-bike from nearby shops. It is one of the best spots to watch the sunset along the Tamsui river bank. But still Tamsui street is rich and more popular than Bali Street. Better to avoid it during the rain and sunny days.

There's a lot of food choices here in Bali Old Street. The donut lines particularly have the most number of people in the queue. However, most food can be purchased in other night markets. To get here, you need to cross via ferry. Ticket price is 68 NTD round trip. If you're visiting with a group, you can rent a tandem bike for the experience. Someone suggested this to easily get to the instagrammable set ups but the tandem bike takes significantly more work and effort than walking. Also quite expensive but the price can be haggled. When ordering food, Google Lens+Translate is your best friend. I usually just translate on my phone, point the item on their menu and hope for the best 😂 Here I ate Lou Rou Fan/Braised Pork Rice for 35NTD. They also sell stinky tofu for 50NTD. Just didn't buy coz the people I was with weren't loving the smell as much as I did. Didn't really spend a lot of time here because the ferry lines going back were so long and we had other places to go to. We ended up buying food, ate in on the line just to save time. Conclusion: You can skip this when you go to Tamsui.

One word: beautiful ! You need to walk quite a distance to go all the way to the waterfall but it’s worth it!

A fantastically wonderful and well-maintained park with lots of gorgeous flowers and trees, snack stands, bridges, paths, and a totally spectacular waterfall. Grab a snack here, or go to Shifen Old Street later to have a relaxed meal there.

Great walk, very well kept and the waterfall is awe inspiring. Lots of little shops near the waterfall for souvenirs or a bite to eat/drink. All in all a great short experience. Don't miss the train passing by on the seemingly desserted tracks.

Love love love this place. It’s really quite an experience to be sipping tea here while looking out at the beautiful view. I went on a weekday and it was not very crowded, so I got to sit outside with a view. The staff here were really friendly and patient and they are able to recommend what tea to drink. They even demonstrate the proper way of tea preparation and tea drinking. Best of all, they did not give me any time limit while I was there! I’m not sure if it’s the same during weekends though. Overall, a most wonderful experience and a definitely must-do when at Jiufen.

We came slightly before lunchtime on a Saturday around 1130am. There wasn’t a queue and we could easily get a seat on the upper deck at the open area. There are other seating areas available, I’m not sure which one is the best but it seems most people opted to sit indoors maybe because it was a hot day. The outside area wasn’t too bad as it was windy and sheltered. The food options are limited and pricey but nicely presented and tasty. I went with the beef brisket with rice and the beef was tender and flavorful. I also had the tea set with some small snacks which was a delightful experience. The hot tea is free flow but the waiter is abit slow in refilling our tea. The iced fruit tea we ordered was also extremely refreshing and they were very generous with the fruits. Most importantly, we had an amazing view while having our meal. We wanted to stay longer but remembered we had to explore the rest of jiufen hence we left. While we were there, the place got pretty packed. What we heard was there is usually a long queue during lunchtime.

Several scenes of the animation spirited away was allegedly inspired by this tea house at Jioufen. Would recommend to visit at night due to the mystical red patterns and small alleys which gives it a mysterious and spooky feel. You could try the food and tea over at A mei tea house and the menu could be seen over at their website. The day and night view is vastly different so you can decide whether to dine in during the day or night!

First time here on a weekday afternoon, it was way too hot (in July) to sit outside so we opted for an inside seat which barely had a view because it was so bright out. At least it was cool inside. We got the tea set for 300NT each (no credit cards, cash only) which was pretty nice. Lots and lots of tea to last us 3 hours of non stop tea drinking which was fun. They showed us how to make tea and the desserts were pretty tasty too. We came in at 3pm and left around 6pm just before the sunset. By 6pm it was cool enough to sit outside on the 3rd floor which the amazing sunset. I would recommend coming here for the sunset or at least get it late afternoon and stay till night time. Nice tea house and worth visiting. The standard tea set's tea was nothing special so lower your expectations or order a better tea. Fun experience in a very touristy tea house.

We managed to get a table outside after waiting and specifically asking the owner. He was a bit blunt but followed through after we waited. We were served immediately and were told how to engage with the tea serving process. Nibbles that came with the tea were delicious. Views were beautiful. The owner also gave us a lovely postcard on our way out.

A-Mei lived up to it's reputation! Beautiful landscapes and delicious tea. I got the iced fruit tea, my friend got the 300ntd set and really enjoyed it!

This tea shop provides authentic local tea with a stunning view and also some food. If you want to experience something interesting, you may like this one. Plus, all of the staff members are so friendly. They would professionally show you how to make good tea. Although the price is a little bit expensive, it's good to try.

The most famous tea house in Jiufen with beautiful red lanterns decorating its front which makes it look like a set from a Ghibili movie. we sat on the balcony so we had a view of the all area. I mostly came for the experience of the view and space since their menu is quite limited for vegans. they only had drinks option so I took their set tea options that came with 3 small desserts. only 2 of them were vegan so I ate the green cookie filled with red bean paste and the sweet sesame sticks that were crunchy and taste good.

We were confused navigating the place. Place was also full, too mainstream already. The menu options were not so wide, we opted to order alacarte and share as a group but we were told that all guests are required to order a drink. Their prices are quite expensive and food taste was not pleasant to our tastebud.

Great food and polite staff. Would recommend the tea set and stewed pork rice. The vegetarian fried rice is also very flavourful. However the price is a bit high. Staff will show you how to make your own tea. Tea tastes as per normal, nothing special.

EXPENSIVE~ I have to use capital letters to express my thoughts of this restaurant. What you pay for it, is the location and view, the food and drinks are just okay and far from extraordinary. The pastry on the two person afternoon tea set all from factory made, only the French fries are freshly made. But the design and the tropical deco are nice, but the background music are the same Thai tune throughout our two hours stay.

Food is expensive, but to be fair the portion is large as well. The food quality is nice, but the wait time can be long, considering we’re coming on Monday lunch which is less peak hours. The view is nice, but in summer time it can be very hot and warm outside. We are party of 4 and we order 3 sets of meals, and we are full. Remember to reserve in advance, otherwise you might not get a table in the weekend.

The view of the restaurant is great on Tamsui river. The restaurant is well decorated with Balinese style. Very good food and Jolly and Nike were very nice.

It really does look and feel like a Balinese resort restaurant, with small buildings separated by outdoor walkways and views of the water. Food is a basic, hearty and ultimately tasty mix of accessible Indonesian (satays) and Taiwan versions of Western (steak, duck leg and the like).

This is a really pleasant restaurant in a beautiful location along the waterfront of Tamshui offering delicious food options. The place appears to be recently renovated and the atmosphere is welcoming and inviting. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and kind. The service is prompt and efficient. It is certainly worth a visit if you are in the vicinity

Went to celebrate bestie’s birthday, we had afternoon tea which was not bad. Loved their pandan cake! Skewers weren’t bad either! They got her a complimentary birthday cake which was lovely, overall we had good time!

Really spacious spot. Have walked by it many times but tried it for the first time today. The service was good, the space definitely gives off vacation vibes, the salmon entree I had was good (for a touristy spot), the guava mousse was a hard pass lol. Really enjoyed the view while eating though!

Nice place to enjoy the sunset from outside but you cannot eat or drink on the terrace so it's quite a bummer.

The restaurant has dim lighting which adds to the ambiance. ✨ It’s an a la carte hotpot restaurant so without realizing it, we went overboard with our orders again. 😅 There’s free refills on the soup base. We got the ma la (numb and spicy) soup base and it comes with tofu and pig’s blood cake. Those are refillable as well. Halfway through the meal, they give you this yogurt smoothie to cleanse your palate and it was really delicious! It’s also refillable so we drank a lot of that too. 🤤

Famous for spicy hotpot. The whole building was decorated as an ancient palace. Beef was tasty. Good services and kids friendly. But no parking

One of the best spicy hotpot I've ever eaten. It was an experience to indulge in the amazing flavors. The ambience and service were awesome! 100% would recommend it to both tourists and locals. Make sure you go there empty stomach to have the most satisfying experience.

Food was good and staff were friendly. Portions were big too so great value. With that said, price is not low.

Well I never thought I would give 5 stars to a McDonald’s. But here it comes. Home away from home!
