The castle ground are nice, especially when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. During our visit there were a number of food vendors set up with various treats just outside the “main gate” (inside the laid area of the castle grounds). The castle itself is closed (March 2022) and it appears to be undergoing some form of internal renovation. It was a shame to visit and not know that entrance to the castle itself would be denied. Worth visiting for the low price and nice pictures.

Cool place to visit, you have the opportunity to enter an old Japanese building (shooed off first). Walk around the walls and see great views. We were lucky to see walking ninjas and samurai which took free photos with us. There is a small park in the castle which is worth a visit too, all sort of cool flowers and trees.

Massive castle with a lot of attractions to visit. Inside of the place feels like you are in different era. The walls and buildings structure preservations are really worth visiting it. There are few small parks here and there. To spend time with family and to see the old life,it is a great place.

The castle is beautiful from the outside, but it was closed when I was there, so I don't know what was inside. I went to the palace nearby, and it was fantastic. The display is just good and so well maintained.

Even though the castle keep is being rebuilt to withstand earthquakes, the reconstructed palace is worth a trip. This must be how it would have looked when it was new. Each of the many rooms and halls is more ornately decorated than the last and the attention to detail is impressive. The walk in the garden around the castle is very nice also!

The castle, palace, and grounds were much better than I originally expected. I was also surprised by how many people were there on a Sunday. My only complaint is that the castle inside isn’t open at this time to visitors. Thankfully the palace is. The palace is very similar to the interior of Nijo Castle.

Massive castle! So beautiful! We weren’t able to walk through the actual castle (it is currently undergoing some construction) but we did get to walk through the palace! The staff on duty were incredibly friendly and kind. The grounds around the castle are gorgeous as well. Bring your stamp book as there is a place to stamp it right next to the entrance :) there’s an ice cream shop as well with DELICIOUS soft serve!

The castle is under renovation so you can't enter it so all that's left are gardens, palace and photos outside. However the gardens also seem like going through restoration since most of them are empty. The palace might be worth a quick glimpse since it has some nicely decorated doors but that's it.

Whilst it's nice to see the grandeur of the grounds besides a look at the main buildings' impressive architecture and artworks. There wasn't a lot of historical information/pieces that the Osaka castle has to offer.

The Nagoya castle and places surrounding it looks great. But the castle is closed, so we cannot see it from inside. I am not sure when it will get opened again. I asked some people; they said it is closed because of its structure became weak after earthquakes. So yes, you can visit to see the castle from outside, but you are not allowed to go inside. But there are other places to see inside the premises, like Hommaru palace, the old stones of original Nagoya etc. Please enjoy visiting this beautiful place.

A beautiful shrine, a must visit if you are in Nagoya. The grounds are large but the shrine itself was compact. I am guessing that not many tourists come here as all the signs are in Japanese only, so a translation app is recommended if you do not speak Japanese. It is worth reading about the significance of the shrine as well, and the sacred sword contained inside, which is hidden from public view. Definitely recommend if you are in Nagoya.

Great place to go with family/ friends. It's a place with a long history. Roughly it takes around 1 hour to cover the entire area. There are few restuarants and food stalls inside the premises. Washrooms available. Enough parking spaces available. I think evening is the best time to visit here.

One of the major shrines in Nagoya. The shrines were great and the huge shrine gates were magnificent. There were several parking lots nearby but only one was open late after 5pm.

Interesting park with rich history. Also good for a relaxing walk. I was not aware that you cannot see the divine sword as it is protected inside the shrine. Many other exhibits are available if you take your time to walk through the shrine.

Good place to walk around but during the New Years this place is pack with lots of people very crowded but despite that you can still feel calm and tranquil. Love this place. Close to Atsuta Jingu Station Just one stop from Nagoya station

It is a shrine worthy visit in all seasons, although it can be very crowded even in weekdays. There are numerous old trees in the courtyard, and there is wall-posting or exhibition, on entrance worship avenue, to explain and show the history- development and change- of the Shrine. Shrine also serves as the community center for the locals, such as annual farm-product harvest competition. Similar to most of the shrines in Japan, it is free for access.

Shrine is located about 10 minutes away from Atsuta Jingu Station. There’s a nice path that will lead you around the shrine and will take you about 15 minutes stroll to experience the peace and serenity of the surrounding. I visited on Tuesday morning and it wasn’t crowded. A beautiful shrine worth the visit when you’re in Nagoya.

I assumed that Friday night was busier, but I'm wrong. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the atmosphere here because it's less hectic than other shopping areas in Japan. Make sure to get there early, because by 8 o'clock most shops were already closed. The tax-free shops are still open, and it is recommended to buy souvenirs there because the costs are lower than in other parts of Nagoya.

A very cool area, kind of like Shimokitazawa, Asakusa and Akihabara combined under a shotengai. You will find everything from vintage clothing shops to electronics to international restaurants here. There is also a famous temple and many small shrines. A must visit if you are in Nagoya.

This is by far my favorite shopping arcade in Japan! I highly recommend the night for a mysterious walk throught the small side alleys and also nearby shrines. A bit scary but I like the thrill!!

Absolutely love this place, full of interesting shops and a wide variety of food from different countries too. We walked around for 2-3 hours to explore every corner of the streets.

This shopping street is mainly focused on small food stands. Most of those are focused on a single dish, but they do those dishes justice. While the most popular places have a line in front of them, do not discount other shops. The taiyaki stall had no line, but said tayaki was delicious, as was the dango there. Apart from all the different affordable and cheap dishes you can find just about anything there. Clothes, cosmetics, pet wares, basically anything. Osu Kannon Temple also hosts a flee market (probably only on weekends) with various odds and ends.

Do it miss out on the manufacturing room where car parts are heated and pressed! For technical nerds this is dope! And for those who like history more, there is enough history written on the walls. Fantastic museum for all ages! This museum will appeal to a variety of people with a variety of interests- so it is a great activity for a group or family. You could easily spend 2+ hours here. Most of the exhibits are interactive. There is also a large number of staff working in the museum who will demonstrate many of the machines and explain how they work. The staff on the floor of the museum all spoke excellent English. I’d recommend bringing your headphones for your phone. There is a guided tour you can access via a QR code in the museum that will walk you through the exhibits in English. You can also rent a head set for ¥200 according to the sign but there was no obvious place to rent them and we didn’t ask. Due to COVID they are not offering tours of the Toyota factory where they build cars- but this museum has ample enough demonstrations of building cars and the evolution of the technology that you won’t miss the factory tour. Can’t say enough great things about this museum. We’ve been to other similar factory/industrial tours in Japan and this was by far the most English friendly.

The museum closes at 5 pm. I visited here on a Saturday. It was not crowded.

I had no idea what to expect before I visited this museum. It covers the complete history of the Toyota corporation from the very beginning when it started out as a textile manufacturer. There are numerous working displays from both the textile portion of the company all the way up to present day automobile manufacturing. Some of the working displays are quite impressive including the automated machinery for textile manufacturing. I had only planned to spend 90 minutes here but I ended up staying for 2.5 hours because the exhibits were so extensive and interesting. Toyota has a very long history and this museum covers all of it very well.

We happened to come to Nagoya to meet a friend and she decided to go to the Toyota Museum. It was pretty cool and there always seem to be groups. Saw many tourists here as well. Guided tour in english was cool so check out times etc. Was very informative including why it's called Toyota and not the founders name Toyoda. Won't spoil it for you. Kids and adults both get to do a key chain thingy at the end which was cool just to do it.

Great aquarium. I do have mixed feelings with animals in captivity but I did want my children to see different marine life. Recommended for families. Not sure why couples were there. I presume a date. An aquarium date is only on the TV.

It was a huge place with an enormous area for dolphin and orca shows. It has two buildings -- North and South. It was my first time seeing a large killer whale in Japan. But there were too many people. It was awfully crowded; it was hard for me to see the aquarium or even just to get out from the premise. The restaurants were full, and there were literally no seats available to sit and relax.

We spent a good 3 hours there, it was so much fun. There were lots of people on a Sunday but the aquarium was quite big so there wasn't a problem. I like that there are seats everywhere so u can just sit and watch.

A must try in Nagoya which is famous for its three ways of eating eel over rice. Arrived around 12pm on a weekday, short line but moved pretty fast. Food is exquisite. The idea of eel liver is a bit scary but actually tasted really good. The famous set for eel&rice is amazing, the regular size is enough for an adult with a good appetite. Price is fair as eel is a bit expensive everywhere. No reservation needed.

Amazing Unagi Don, a must visit in Nagoya- we came on a week day and only waited 20 minutes to get seated. The portions are really big so a regulars size should be enough for most people.

Arrived at 11:30 but because of the volume of customers, I was asked to come back at 1PM. Not a problem though as Atsuta Shrine was just nearby so spent my waiting time there. Once seated, I ordered their famous hitsumabushi which is grilled eel with rice and can be enjoyed in 3 ways (see photos): 1. As is – take a spoonful of rice and a slice of unagi 2. With the condiments – do #1 and place the serving in the small bowl then add nori/wasabi/negi 3. With broth made from tea and dashi – do #1 and place the serving in the small bowl then add the broth Difficult for me to choose which one I enjoyed the most but all I can say is it was worth it! Also thought that the serving was small but the big bowl was full of rice and thick chunks of unagi.

This is the eel or hitsumabushi restaurant to try while in Nagoya! This restaurant is the one that trademarked the hitsumabushi or invented the 3 ways of eating eel. Plus, it is the main store! The main store actually has a shorter wait time than the one in Sakae location. When we went on a weekday dinner time, it was only 20 min wait. In addition, I think the decorations of the restaurant with a garden outside is much prettier than the one inside the mall. Service was great. Food was excellent. We tried the Maruya hotten (another popular hitsumabushi place) the night before and thought this one was far better. The garden is well decorated and very zen. Shoes had to be taken off in the restaurant for dinning. Overall, a very nice dinning experience. Highly recommend!!

Very good and unique experience. Though we reached during opening time for dinner, we had to wait for one hour. However, the waiting is well managed, and welcome was quite exquisite. The hitsumabushi (extra large) is sufficient for 2 people, along with a starter and sake. I enjoyed the service and ambiance.

There is a waiting line and you have to wait for your turn except for the course reservation. The food is excellent and the building has a very nice atmosphere.

The food was nice. There was a parking lot back at the back of the store. There may be long queues staring from 5:30pm so it’s better to come earlier.

An unexpected experience for us, our first time in Nagoya, and we found out Eel dishes is a local specialty, so we stumbled upon this nice restaurant. The Wait: We arrived around 15:45 and the line was long but the wait was short, I recommend arriving early as this restaurant is popular. The Food: We ordered the Hitsumabushi* (explanation of what this is will be below) it was served with toppings such as green onion, seaweed, wasabi(not the real wasabi) miso soup, and a Eel soup to pour inside the dish if desired. Also, directions on how to eat it. Drinks automatically come with warm matcha tea, though other drinks are available on the menu. Serving size for standard is more than enough for one person, though because we were unsure, we ordered the larger size, which had so much of everything we could barely finish eating. Overall, the Eel was very flavorful, savory, and unlike any other dish we've had. It is worth the visit! ひつまぶしは美味しいです。 レストランは訪れる価値があります。 *What is Hitsumabushi? The name "Hitsumabushi" is a combination of two words: "Hitsu" (櫃): This refers to the wooden containers or boxes called "ohitsu" (お櫃) used for storing and serving cooked rice. These containers help keep the rice warm and preserve its moisture. "Mabushi" (飯蒲焼 or まぶし): This is a local Nagoya dialect term meaning "to eat with enjoyment."

Just look at it. LOOK. AT. IT. NOW GO EAT IT!!!!! came during off peak hours and got shown to my seat immediately. staff were friendly and english ready, chefs were extremely passionate about their food. Best food in my days in Nagoya!!!

Hands-down the best pork cutlet I ever had. Despite waited for 30mins, the half-half sauce pork cutlet that I ordered was succulent, not too dry, just nice. Oh, I had second serving to takeaway/ to-go. It was that good

The main store of a house famous for Miso Tonkatsu, one of Nagoya's specialties! It is said that they are also making inroads into Korea. The soybean paste-based miso sauce is thick and serves to enhance the taste as a sauce. It's just that it's a bit salty... I ate the donburi, and the miso sauce blended well with the rice, so it tasted great. Personally, I recommend donburi over tonkatsu! And I recommend sirloin tonkatsu rather than tenderloin. The taste was okay, but it didn't exceed expectations compared to the store's reputation. Next time I come to Nagoya, I will come again.

The cutlet is a pretty standard katsu cutlet but the miso sauce is delicious and makes it special. Rice is also very good and unlimited. Seating system could be improved a little, many people had to wait on the stairs inside the shop for some reason instead of outside, not the best practice.

Such a great restaurant. The service is great and quick. The pork is tasty and delicious. Highly recommended if you are in Nagoya.

Usually need to queue. We went at 8:30 pm and the restaurant still busy. I ordered the prime set and price is reasonable. Food is amazingly delicious, tasty, tendered, juicy served hot. Multiple language menu provided. Staffs is helpful.

Visited during March. A must try for their signature miso katsu if you are in Nagoya. The pork and miso sauce tastes excellent together. A slight con is for the long queue times.

İt definitely delivers what they offer. Was taken there by friends so did not know where we are going. Was a bit overwhelming and shocking haha. Go there for experience, not food as it is little food for high price, besides the entrance fee

I celebrated my 22nd birthday here with my partner (as well as my oshi, Pomu Rainpuff’s b-day hahaha) and the maids were so lovely! They were having a special event and the maids were dressed in fun costumes. I especially appreciated when the maids took notice of my Pomu Rainpuff merchandise and we got to talk about Nijisanji EN together! They even played Nijisanji EN music which was so thoughtful :) I liked doing “kanpai!” with the maids 🍻

Stuff were very friendly and food was good. I ordered parfait and was VERY CUTE. Nice location as well ! There was a maid singing and dancing on a stage so my friend and I had a fun experience:)

It’s better have a booking. We had a booking at 11:30. There were so many people waiting at outside even if it’s hot weather. Quite quickly served. Nice amount of food as well

Hitsumabushi tastes very good, kind of different than other unagi dishes you might eat in Japan (more smoky, BBQ-like quality to it). This location is also close to the Atsuta Shrine which is convenient because you can go there while you wait for your table. I will say though; I'm not sure if the dish matched its hefty price tag. It is about 70% rice. As part of a trip to Nagoya, though, I think you couldnt do much better than visit this popular restaurant

Why did I taste Hatsumabushi so late? Having tasted Nagoya's famous eel-on-rice for the first time at the most famous place, is it a blessing or a curse? Divide the hatsumabushi into 4 portions, 1) eat it as it is, 2) mix it with wasabi and green onions, 3) roll it in tea, and 4) eat it as you like, and enjoy the 4 different ways of eating. feel it! They don't have a lot of variety, but they also have nihonsu that goes well with them. It's expensive, but it's worth it because both the quantity and quality are good. A must visit place. If I were to give it a Michelin, it would be two or more! And be reservation minimum 2 weeks ago!

Despite living in Asia for many years, I can't say I'm a fan of eel. But this was a classic for Nagoya, so I tried it, and WOW. It's amazingly good, with a soft buttery texture unlike any eel I ever had before, and a perfect combination of briny, smoked, and gently sweet flavors that was irresistible. They will give instructions on how to eat it like a local, and that is cute and does complement the fish well, but all that is just to flesh out the main experience, what matters is the eel itself. Amazing. Not cheap and not a huge portion, but well worth it. Will definitely make a point of getting more on any future visit.

When in Japan, having the Hitsumabushi is a must! More so when you’re in Nagoya, where Hitsumabushi is said to have originated from. Swing by renowned Atsuta Houraiken established in 1873 after you visited Atsuta Jingu. The well-loved Hitsumabushi comes in two sizes from JPY4.40 for the small bowl. Grilled over binchozumi and brushed with the secret sauce, eat it like the local by splitting it into 4 portions.
