Lovely garden, in need of a little better upkeep in places, possibly a hangover from the pandemic. The cacti are spectacular, however, and it's worth a visit for these alone. Great city views and a couple of good cafes for a spot of lunch. There's a minimum spend for card so have some cash handy if you just want a drink.

Worth a visit, especially if you are into plants and flowers. Was surprised by the variety of plants. There is a pond with turtles on the lower level of the Botanical garden, as well as toilets near the pond. Took us around 2 hours without transfers with funiculars. Do not forget to visit a Tropical garden nearby. In my opinion much more lovely! Plan around 2-3 hours for Tropical garden as well. You can buy tickets to Botanical garden together with tickets for funiculars and save some money.

Wonderful and well maintained botanical garden, we had a great time, basically it was giving a really diverse experience. Definitely worth visiting! On the contrary, at the coffee bar, the food is not really tasty despite of the high prices - so I recommend to avoid it, and maybe grab something more delicious outside the botanical garden.

Garden is pretty enough to kill some time in Funchal and offer a decent view of the city below. We accessed via cable car. Visited in January so potentially not as many flowers this time of year. Mostly enjoyed the gardens but you'd be fine to skip it too and just do cable cars.

The variety of plants here is amazing. Takes about 2 hours to go around and see everything. Not suitable for the disabled and saw some people with prams/pushchairs/strollers struggling in some areas. Good value for money (€7.50 adult entrance). Bus 29 and 31a go past the entrance.

On a hill above Funchal, we travelled up on the cable car. Very scenic. It was busy at the bottom, I would suggest trying to get there early to vent the crowds. The gardens are lovely and it's a quiet location. Great views and there is a cafe overlooking Funchal.

This place is nice if you’re a plant lover. It’s not the best botanical garden I’ve visited but does have a wonderful and diverse amount of citations and plants. The cactus garden is the most spectacular one to see. There’s a few cafes and the cable cart that goes up to the mountains. Be prepared to have your best walking shoes and to be walking a lot up hill.

The gardens are lovely, not quite as much drama as Monte but they are beautiful and much more educational. It looks like they are slowly redesigning areas and those look especially good. I saw some comments about weeding, and in some beds yer there were a few weeds but it was still much better than my garden! Entry was much cheaper than Monte and the variety of plants was really impressive, definitely worth a visit!

Nice garden, but if you’re not a huge fan of flowers or don’t have enough time, it’s not a must-see in Funchal in my opinion. Also, it’s quite hard to get there from Funchal – you’re gonna need a car or a taxi.

Beautiful! One of the most beautiful botanical gardens I have seen. Relatively small, but very well cared. I do like the part where you can see the fossils from Madeira, some kind of little museum in old building. There are plenty of viewpoints on the area as well as places with refreshments. Strongly recommend 😀

Very nice botanical gardens. You can find inside so many many special of plants. Beautiful and very knowledgeable. Fee for entry is just 7,50€ and you can also get to viewpoints and look at city from above. Worth to visit. I am not mentioning adrenaline ride up here by bus 😌 perfect experience. Inside the areal are toilets and small buffet.

Well worth a visit: lovely buildings, interesting tour and museum, and two glasses of Madeira for €11. You can carry on and taste more Madeiras, and if you buy a bottle from the same year you get the price of the tasting back. Also 10% discount if you go on the tour. The facility to buy there, and pick up after passport control at the airport, is very useful indeed. Our 4 bottles are waiting for us!

The building was impressive. Some amazing attention to detail. Sadly the shop was closed. Low stars because we wanted to have tasting but couldn’t hear ourselves think due to building noise in the courtyard. We said we couldn’t hear and the server grimaced theme started shouting at us so we left.

We thoroughly enjoyed a delightful wine tasting session at Blandy's. With a selection of 9 generous tasters available at an affordable price of only €17, it was a wonderful opportunity to explore a range of exquisite wines. The convenience of being able to walk in without a prior reservation and choose our preferred tipples added to the overall experience. The setting provided the perfect atmosphere for a pre-dinner treat, enhancing the enjoyment of the wines even further. We highly recommend this wine tasting experience at Blandy's to all wine enthusiasts.

This was a good thing to do on a rest day, when you aren't hiking, or if there weather is bad. There were several types off tours, depending on how in depth you wanted to go. My guide, Diana, was extremely knowledgeable and even had personal experience with her family to share about the win process.

Park Santa Catarina is one of the big parks in Funchal overlooking the port of Funchal. It is beautiful with a small water body and fountains. Many flowering plants and shrubs are inside the park. It is in fact a tourist attraction. I have spent evening time watching the port from here. Evening breeze is soothing.

The moment you enter the museum (€5 cash entry), you soak up the atmosphere of all that he accomplished, the trophies he won and how the boy from Madeira became a legend. You'll see videos from each stage of his career, trophies across clubs, as well as historical artefacts, commemorative coins and more. The complex also includes a wine shop, hotel and other things. The place is in a good location by the beach and close to the centre of Funchal.

I’m not a big fan of CR and in general of football but I was present surprised. It's a popular destination for football fans and tourists interested in learning more about his life and career. The museum showcases various memorabilia, trophies, and personal items related to Cristiano Ronaldo's achievements in football. Shows what a one man can reach. Totally impressive. And a price of 5 euros per person sounds like a good deal for the experience.

Even though I'm not a big football fan, Cristiano's Ronaldo museum looks pretty awesome to me. I guess everything he ever won it's displayed there. The entrance tax is 5 euro. There is a fan shop available too. You don't have to pay the 5 euro tax to enter the fan shop. Prices are fair I'd say. 30 euro a CR7 t-shirt (looks pretty unique to me).

This is one of the most interesting places on the island, especially if you are a football fan! You can see up close just about all the awards he has won individually but also with his teams and the national team of Portugal. Some of the early memories while still playing in Portugal are on display and a full size statue of chocolate. It's a must see! Entry ticked is just 5 Euros!

Visiting CR7 Museum while enjoying your trip to Madeira is a MUST ! I am not particularly fan of Football but it’s such an inspiring place ! When you visit his museum you can understand many things about his personality, his history and his relations with Madeira. I liked the fact that this sport guy won mostly everything and you can feel that he’s a hard working person ! The entry cost is about 5€ per adult There is only one (down) floor to visit but if you are a fan of football you gonna definitely enjoy your time there as this place is full of history. There is a small shop where you can buy some goodies from the museum and Cristiano ! Enjoy !

CR7 could keep all his medals locked way instead his museum has all the trophies, medals for club and country not to mention all the individual awards. Dotted around are shirts that are of significance along with hat trick balls and custom boots. The gift shop is small and I would say reasonably priced for the items. 5 euro entry which is not bad at all.

Nice museum with all of CR’s trophy’s! One floor exposition. Nothing more nothing less. Worth the price but don’t plan on spending more than 45 minutes here.

A huge romantic garden either with endemic species or Asian, Australian, African and American plants as well. Long paths to wander and well planned flower gardens to have a rest on a bench. The tea house has nice variety of cookies and good coffee. The views on Funchal is amazing!!!

These gardens are not so good as Monte Palace of Botanical Garden, but still worth -visiting if you have some free time yet to spend. Free parking in front of the enterance.

Lovely large gardens, with great views across Funchal. Very well maintained and impressive range of plants and trees. There is a tea house with good choice of drinks. Cost to get in was €10 per person. Definitely worth a visit.

What a feast for the eyes. This place is sheer paradise. I wanted to stay forever. I felt like I was in England with such glorious trees and scenery. Tip - get Bus 37 from Funchal.

Very easy to get to from Funchal by the no 37 bus which stops outside the entrance. The entrance is €10 per adult. There are some lovely viewpoints throughout the gardens and plenty of interesting plants and trees to enjoy. I think that the signage could be improved especially as the paths are mendering and there are private areas embedded in the grounds. We visited the tea house which is positioned on the far side of the gardens on the borders of the golf club. The coffee and cake was OK.There was some seating inside the tea house but the outdoor seating was filthy and clearly had not been cleaned for months. The toilets which were situated in another part of the garden were very clean.

Lovely walk around peaceful gardens. We enjoyed the package entrance which included a glass of wine, custard tart and tea or coffee in the tea house.

We had an amazing meal here last night. The staff was extremely attentive while not being overbearing. The bottle of wine they suggested was incredible and we both enjoyed our meals immensely. 200 euros for four courses and a bottle of wine is an absolute steal. This included a generous tip, you could comfortably eat here as a couple for 120 euros.

Wonderful food experience. Great food, great wines. Lovely presentation of food, and interesting mixes of flavors that goes very well together. Fantastic service. If you want a fine dining experience in funchal this is a very good alternative. The fish with lime risotto was my favorite.

I enjoyed this place, but was let down by my main. I got the extra value menu for €43 and paid an extra €3 for the prawn starter. The prawns were great and I loved the flavour combinations together. The octopus was a bit salty and bland but the chocolate lava cake was delicious and I really enjoyed it. I also loved the bread at the start I chose sweet potato which was lovely with the garlic butter and balsamic. Service here was great however there was a small miscommunication I think due to the language barrier. The waiter asked if I wanted wine and I asked her is it included in the menu and she said yes but at the end of the bill I had to pay for me. It was only €5 but slightly annoying as I didn’t actually want the wine. This restaurant is lovely but I thought it would be slightly better due to its Michelin star. Still one to check out!

The food, the atmosphere and the service were excellent. If I had one thing to comment it would be the bread that was offered as an antree. It was charged 4€/ person, for a small slice of bread and butter plus some oil and vinagar. I would not recommend taking that. But otherwise, I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will eat here again the next chance I get.

Generally food in Funchal was very good, but Armazem do Sal was by far the best. Let me start by saying the service is excellent. Now about the food, there was not a single flaw in any of the dishes - composition, ingredients and presentation was on point. Would highly recommend to everybody visiting the island!

Excellent first evening in Funchal, Madeira and a lovely dinner experience. Great service, beautiful rustic setting...we ate in the outside terraced area and the service was very good. Main course food was fantastic and good value and the desserts were nice but overpriced. Overall a great evening tho and recommended.

To begin the food was good but... I ordered the gastronomic experience. I was greeted with entirely too much silverware. I already had four pieces on the table and was given more. Now four pieces on the left and right. Confusing. I had wine pairings with my coursed meal. Wine glasses were never pulled. I had empty wine glasses on the table as I was served more wine with my next course. Even after being served wine with the next course, they still didn't remove empty glassware. When I was done with my dessert I had three empty wine glasses total on the table. THREE. I'm not sure why my water was being refilled but wine glasses were being placed and filled but empty ones weren't removed. When I paid the bill and had two empty glasses, they still weren't removed. I had two courses that were only dropped and not explained at all. The dish with the black rice was entirely too large for a tasting menu. Overall the food was good but I would have been much happier leaving with a 80€ bill versus 110€. Probably still disappointed with the service but at least I would have been more satisfied giving it a try. Not sure how or why they have any sort of michelin plaques on the wall. I get they don't have actual stars but to boast that was a bit ridiculous. Don't expect that kind of experience.

We had a lovely lunch here during our visit to Funchal. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. We absolutely loved our Mains which consisted of Risotto and Ravioli and both were piping hot, made up of fresh ingredients and absolutely tasty. For desert we ordered creme brulee which didn’t quite like it as the ice cream was too sweet. But overall we had an amazing experience with nice ambiance and attentive staff.

Unbelievable!!! The whole experience was amazing!! We got picked up in a vintage car and driven down to the restaurant via the Christmas lights! Champagne reception for my wife and I on the roof top followed by the most amazing 3 course meal with wine to accompany each course. The food is unreal!! I have not had food like it since our wedding day over 10 years ago. If you are in Funchal you have to go to this restaurant.!!!

If you want a incredible meal with a picturesque European setting then this is the place. The 4 course meal with wine pairing is the way to go. The musician singing live the night we were there was like being at a concert. Highly recommend making a reservation and asking to sit by the wall with sea views.

Do Forte was our first best dining experience in Funchal. I had the kataifi prawns, the black scabbard fish and the Mille feuille. I loved them all, but my heart was set to the black scabbard with the passion fruit sauce! A dish made in heaven! Do not miss it also for the great fortress atmosphere!

Great menu with a few unusual choices. The wine flowed freely. Service was spot on. Sondra is a gem.

Haut Cuisine on a Budget! We had a great lunch for two at the Fort. An outside table sheltered from, but overlooking, the huge Atlantic rollers in the harbour. Stunning scene! Go for the Concerto Especial (Special Concept) set meal. See photo. €45 pp. It includes warm bread, three types of butter, and a fine amuse bouche of curd cheese with passion fruit quenelle. Then a starter for me of foie gras (includes extra pate de fois gras!), mushrooms for my companion, all with a nice Spanish cava. Another amuse bouche of coconut sorbet. Mains of Fillete de Robalo (sea bass with black risotto) and an octopus risotto. Plenty of white or red Portuguese Alantejo wine. Then we had a shared pistachio creme brûlée and Portuguese cheese plate and coffee with a glass of Madeira wine. Top quality food and great value for money! Excellent service. Clean toilets.

We have been eating at this restaurant for about 15 years, Covid omitted. It was always excellent, however in recent years they have added more tables outside at the entrance to the Fort and in my opinion the staff cannot cope with the extra covers. We arrived at 7.20 for a booking of 7.30 and we were there 3 hours. We had the special concept menu and I had to ask for a second glass of red wine. Twice I had to ask for a second bottle of water. We waited 10 minutes plus after being given the dessert menu for our order to be taken. Its a shame as this used to be our go to place. Originally this was managed by Cris who has gone it alone and has Cris's and Cris's Place, both have the special concept, both have better service and are slightly cheaper and do not charge €4 extra for "premium" meals, such as lamb. Your glass is topped up when required and the serving staff are attentive and friendly, not run off their feet. Come on Do Forte you can improve.

Nice setting, good selection of food. I enjoyed my prawn cocktail and Hunters BBQ chicken. We were expecting the shrimp fajita to come out on a hot plate, but it was more of a broth so a bit messy to eat!

Great food, very friendly staff! The location is very nice also, and it's a quiet sitting area with almost no background noise. I can absolutely recommend this place!

What a great evening's food and entertainment. Some of our group had the famous espetada meat skewers and others a choice of steak, chicken or fish on hot rocks, where you effectively cook your own food, with sides of potato and veg or salad. Great fun and delicious. I would certainly recommend this place and may need to make a reservation first, as it was popular!

Visited in July 2023 with family. Very nice food and service, nice terrace with a view. Paid 25 Eur/person for good dinner with drinks, wein, coctail. Accessible with wheelchair, parking infront of the entrance.

We visited Leenos twice for dinner. I had the sea bass and limpets both times and both were great. My boyfriend has the steak skewer which I didn’t love, but still give it 5 stars because of the sea bass, limpets, and atmosphere.

We did the concept menu, 45 euro per person, best choice we made. It includes any starter, main and dessert from the menu plus an amuse bouche, palette cleanser, wine for every course and a coffee! Food was excellent, wine was topped up and tasty! And to finish off Mozart brings the bill! Ps check out the loo!!!!!!

Had a brilliant meal last night. We ordered then sat with a wine waiting for our meal. We realised we had parked at La Vie and it was due to close. Discussed with the waiter who served the food and he rang the mall to checked closing time. We enjoyed the delicious food then a member of staff took one of our party in the Mozart car to collect our car. He returned and we all enjoyed desert and coffee. Where else would you get service like that?? Delicious food, very friendly staff. Highly recommended We will be back soon. 😀

Taste amazing soo delicious and service on top. When you arrive at the establishment, you are greeted by a handsome man dressed as Mozart. This is incredibly immersive. As a compliment you will receive a glass of champagne. Recommend and thank you for all🤝

One star down for the somewhat underwhelming food, and a steak ordered medium and served well done. Another star down for the ignorant and not-so-friendly service, who brought the wrong drink and had no clue about their special concept menu and didn't let me order one. So we just went for a one-course dinner, and had a walk to another place for drinks and dessert. This is one of the places I'll not go back to, and unfortunately can't recommend.

From the start customer service was amazing and the staff members are outstanding here the food it cooked so perfectly and so tasty the pork was amazing and fresh cooked perfectly and it was fully apart so Tender and juicy wow I have not had food like this in a long time and the Simon was cooked perfectly as well and so Juicy and very Tender and fulling apart nothing bad at all at this restaurant amazing food and Service will come back here for more food and you need to come here and try the food people you will be Shocked how amazing it is and how outstanding the service is unbelievable

Nice menu system. You pay a certain amount like 11.90 and you get a full course with starter and coffee at the end with a whole bottle of water of your choice (fizzy or still). The restaurant and its name was kind of drawing us in since we are living in Austria. Eventhough the system is nice and the restaurant looks great the food was kind of plain. Risotto was lacking the butter and the parmezan cheese. The filled ravioli was made with frozen spinach to make the sauce. Price was surprisingly good and i guess because of the quality. Another thing to mention that they didn’t have asparagus for the risotto and suggested courgette instead. I went only with mushrooms. Waiter was super nice and we had a nice chat with him. Shame that the food wasnt good. Maybe the meat dishes are better.

I looking for internet for best octopus in town and this restaurant was first. Didn’t let me down, it was really delicious and combination with side dishes was perfect. They bring as free sparkling wine and offer us bread with some oil and tunafish as starter for free. The nice guy in Mozart clothes was chatting with us very friendly. Very high level of restaurant and it is worth it. If you like good food in good company it is for you, we will return again for sure.

13 January 2022. We booked for the all inclusive menu with wine provides suitable for each course. What a wonderful meal full of delicious flavours and stunning presentation. We were entertained throughout by a very talented violinist. Such a memorable evening . Thank you all.

We had the VW classic beetle pickups up from our hotel. The staff were very friendly helpful and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. Mozart have a very talented chef. The music was at the right volume.

We booked quite late and got a table through The Fork (which gave us 30 per cent off the bill). We ordered the steak (juicy and delicious) and the noir linguine (succulent, delicious, creamy). The staff were lovely. They have great recommendations, arranged a taxi home and we’re generally lovely. If you’re in Madeira - check it out!

This restaurant had excellent customer service. I would advise to go hungry as the portions are very generous. The food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is a bit of the beaten track but really really worth going to. I am a vegetarian and the flavours in everything was amazing especially the spicy vegetable korma. The owner stood at our table and chatted with us and made us feel so welcome to his restaurant. The price of the meal was great too. Wish we had this wonderful restaurant at in Ireland. I would like to say compliments to the wonderful chefs. If you love good Indian food Sabor da India is not to be missed while in Funchal.

Uh…. where to start with this terrible Friday dinner in Madeira? I reserved a table online at 12:00 noon, the table was booked for 20:30, we arrived at 20:29 and all the tables were occupied, we were told sorry, we’ll wait until there are tables. (How can we wait? I made a reservation and was counting on something?) At 20:45 someone left and we were given a table, after 10 minutes they brought us a menu, after 2 minutes we were ready to place an order, but they came up to us 10 minutes later and They asked what we would drink? to which we replied that we wanted to eat, but they refused to order food and now they are only accepting orders for drinks. After 5 minutes, a man came and took an order for food. This is where the very strange wait for the order began, the salad was brought after 1 hour and 20 minutes!!! The main food arrived after 1 hour and 35 minutes. The food was mediocre and not worth its inflated rating; this establishment deserves a 4.0 rating and no more. A few days ago, we ate MUCH better Indian food in our neighborhood than here. I don't recommend it, it's a tourist trap!

I have been to 100's of Indian restaurants across the globe. Sabor has the best Tandoori mixed grill, fried fish and palak soup. We ordered them extra spicy. Service led by Ganesh and Teresa was the icing on the cake. Food and service was so good we went there 3 nights in a row.

Fantastic restaurant for vegetarians with very welcoming and friendly staff! We ended up going there 3 times during our 7 day holiday. I think this might be one of the best Indian restaurants in the EU. | Update - just have been to one of the best Indian restaurants in Munich and I have to say: I really miss the superb food of Sabor da India! (You guys are definitely a reason to stay in Funchal again 👍)

Wow!! Great taste, high quality food. I tried three Indian restaurants in Funchal and this is the best by far. "Knowing my curries", this gets full 5 stars. Also, the take away boxes are of generous size. All in all, great experience. Thank you to the owner.

Very good service. The staff and the owner were kind. The food came quick and was tasteful. The waiter made very good follow-ups and made sure everything was going well. Me and my wife came back the next day. Even tough the restaurant was full, the service was perfect! I recommend it !

Easily the best Indian food I’ve had in Madeira and one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The staff were also very nice and the open indoor/outdoor vibe was great. Great way to end our stay in this beautiful island!

Great service and delicious food! We had the chicken tikka jalfrezy and lamb madras and quite honestly some of the best Indian food ever had.

That was horrible experience We wait our dishes 1:30h 😳 We order dishes and they re not spice they re sweet. Nobody don’t ask us we love more spice or not. The lamp is not delicious. We sit around the table and wait the waiter 30mins we order starters and dishes and we wait it 90mins. Really????? I’m in shock. We were the Indian restoration near by this one and there was great here no.
