Great all round views from the top of this lighthouse. There are two levels, if you chose to go upto the second top level, make sure you have a good head for heights. It's a narrow tight staircase and little space to move around at the top. Additionally the railing around the top barely reached waist level for me. It would be all to easy to lose your balance if you lent over too far and fall. Keep back from the edge. Great views out to sea and across the old town. You can pay the small entrance fee in either Argentine or Uruguay Pesos.

Nice old colonial town, there are a lot of bars and restaurants, you can climb the lighthouse, walk the original streets and spend easily half a day waiting perhaps for the ferry to Buenos Aires. The old town is situated just a few blocks away from the ferry and bus terminal.

I went to visit Colonia for the afternoon so I could renew my 90-day Visa for Argentina. Booking a round trip on Buquebus was very easy to get to Colonia. Yes, Uruguay is more expensive than Buenos Aires! However, you can still pay with Argentine pesos in Colonia and DO NOT NEED to convert your pesos. The price on the check at the restaurant I ate at worked out to be the same no matter how you paid. Colonia is very old and a great place to walk around for a few hours and learn about the history of this city. There are a lot of places to eat and also to buy souvenirs. It does not take more than a 2 or 3hrs to casually walk around to see the historic parts. They have done a great job at preserving it!

One of the must go places when you are visiting Colonia Del Sacramento. The light house in itself is very beautiful with a different design, most of the lighthouses are cylindrical in shape but this one is rectangular at the bottom and cylindrical at the top. We have to pay a nominal amount to go inside around 30-50 peso per person and they will allow very few people at a time . You will be allowed to go to the top rectangular part of the lighthouse first and then after sometime they will let you go to the topmost part and the view from there is breathtaking . You can see the whole Colonia from top of the light House .

It was closed today, but the view up there must be awesome.

An excellent way to spend a day in Coloniadel Sacramento is taking a leisurely stroll down the romantic walk along the shoreline. The sidewalk is very well maintained by the city and is wide enough to fit a bunch of people. The street lights make it relatively safe to traverse at night & the views are to die for.

Nice views, but terrible service. We were seated by the host and then tried unsuccessfully to get a waiter to take our order for almost 20 min, even though it was not busy. People seated after us were seen quickly, and the waiters would glance at and then ignore us when we tried to get their attention (we speak Spanish fluently). So we got up and left. When they showed me to my table and sat me down, I felt the ambience, looked at the view, and I actually cried! It's so beautiful and peaceful right on the water and so tastefully decorated inside. I had a simple salad with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc from Montevideo. Nice. But then, the grilled fish was INCREDIBLE! Luscious, juicy and tasty with PERFECT smashed potato, olive and garlic mix on the side. Service SO professional and graceful. Thoroughly recommend!

At the recommendation of my hotel, I visited this place for both breakfast and dinner two days in a row. The restaurant has a nice view of the river and the outside garden area is very lovely. The menu is varied and the food is beautifully prepared. The problem is the service. There is no assigned wait staff to your table throughout your meal. You have 2 or 3 people serving you.. confusing.. I had an issue with the bill and asked to see the manager and was told that one was "not available". The next morning I was there for breakfast and asked to see the manager but no one came to speak with me. I cannot recommend a place with such low regard for its patrons. To the owner " you have a problem".

Amazing setting, great food and service. We had the braised pork as well as a salmon poke bowl. Tasteful and delicious. Only downside: Make sure you have 2:00 to eat.

A real disappointment! The place is in a great location and had huge potential, BUT: My wife and I ordered the grilled fish for her and the chivito for me. My dish was really good, they managed to take the chivito to a whole new level, that is until I took a bite with a big stone in my fries. Almost cracked a tooth and it still hurts the day after. I told the lady in charge about it and she said she'll talk to the kitchen and never came back. My wife's fish was rare and not properly grilled and her potato was burned black. When I payed the bill I asked about the stone and she just said she has no explanation for it and it's impossible that happened. The 2 stars are only because the Chivito was really good. So as I said, a real shame....

The first meal I had when I arrived in Colonia del Sacramento. I arrived quite late at night after taking the ferry from Buenos Aires. I was walking along the main street and saw this restaurant which was still quite crowded pretty late and I thought it should be pretty good so I decided to give it a try. Not knowing what to order, the male waiter recommended me to try the Chivito El Porton, which is the local Uruguayan dish as well as the restaurant signature. I tried and was impressed with the quality. There was literally too much on the plate. I tried to finish everything and it was very filling. Very enjoyable meal the price was pretty reasonable as well. I didn't know but I paid with credit card and there was even a discount! What a great value meal here. Highly recommended.

If you are a meat lover, this is the place to be! Wood fire grill will give your meat a very nice smoky flavor. Be careful when ordering. Their portions are really big. My favorite was kidney and sosages. Also, they really like their freshly squeezed orange juice, which also has a very generous portion.

Went here for dinner and was not really impressed because it has to much of a tourist feel not as much a local feel. There are a lot of good restaurants in there area so unfortunately the bar is very high. It wasn’t bad just not as good as some others. The place is quite large with both inside and outside dinning. It would be good for large gatherings for work or with family/friends. It seems to be very geared towards tourist due to size and even dual language menu and they accept AMEX which a lot of places don’t take. The English level of the staff was very good (also a good sign it’s a tourist stop). The interior design / decorations were pretty cool too which was nice. Food is ok, they have a lot of grilled meat combos which look nice but since I was dinning alone I didn’t partake. The bread in the bread basket was a bit dry, as well as the pork roll thing I got. I guess if you want something a little closer to western this could be a good option but I don’t think I would go back.

I had the steak, empenadas and a bottle of Malbec. Then the brownie for dessert. The food was really good. The setting is really cosy with a real fireplace. The service was fantastic. I’d definitely visit Dos 22 again.

Five stars for the bondiola de cerdo, which was really tender with great puré and sauce. Chivitas, the local speciality, was good too but not quite as delicious. Very friendly service. Menu was refreshingly short for South America, always a good sign.

The waitress was very rude, she didn't want to seat us (6 people) although it was nearly empty and they were clearly open. Her reasoning was that she didn't want to move the table, and when we offered to do it ourselves, she very rudely declined and sent us away.

Nice pizza. Good price and very filling portion sizes. And a nice water view if you sit outside. They take credit cards.
