The place outside the Cathedral is too crowded and noisy that it is less possible for us to breath. The place is so beautiful and inside of the cathedral is calm and quiet. The art works are extremely brilliant. It would be better to go during the day time especially when it is sunny, so that you can enjoy the colorful glass paintings inside the cathedral.

You have to come and see this remarkable building in person. It is stunning on so many levels. The architecture, details, history, and scale are just mind blowing. Don't forget to go in the spire! It is worth the steps, and honestly not that bad. You will need to pay for the spire portion, but do it if you are physically comfortable doing it.

One of the most mesmerizing pieces of architecture I’v seen in my life. The details, the size, the view, the history and the beauty are all immaculate. I came to cologne on a business trip and on my last day I decided to explore the city and it was the best decision ever and later I read about the cathedral and its history. You can go to the other side of the river to take some nice photos as well. Also note that if you want to get inside the cathedral you’ll have to go between 10:00 and 17:00 on weekdays. The love bridge is also near by which will give you a nice view of the cathedral and the river.

Located in the heart of cologne, right next to the train station. This cathedral is so magical and the view is breathtaking. Would suggest early hours to avoid the crowd. Also there are some relaxing places outside the cathedral. Beautiful at night with lights on. This is also under one of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

One of the biggest and the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever been to! You can easily go there by trains as it is located next to the train station. Inside the cathedral, there are many beautiful stained glass windows and I really liked the statues. No entry fee but there are a lot of visitors.

I highly recommend taking some time to visit "The Dom!" The architecture and craftsmanship that went into that structure are astounding. If you're up for it, climb The Dom and then let your legs rest inside as you take in all the beauty within. Buy the guidebook in the gift shop so you can read more about the artwork and specific features as you're taking it all in. It's a beautiful piece of history to behold.

Huge cathedral in cologne It was the first time in this city and really enjoyed walking around and seeing so many interesting places and of course this cathedral I couldn’t had it in one flame and also couldn’t had it without the crowd. Entrance to Cathedral is free. In front of is the line for security check only. Place is the highest and built with so many details you must visit and see. Inside is possible to light a candle and pray, there is enough space to get peace from tourists for a few minutes. Overall, amazing.

You can buy tickets upon entry, no need for advance tickets unless you want. I thoroughly enjoyed going through the museum and learning the history of chocolate and how it’s made, processed, and used across the world and different cultures. Coolest part is seeing the chocolate actually made right in front of you through different steps. You even get to click a button that pops out the chocolate that was just cooled/made. Definitely worth the visit here in Cologne!

The place is great! A must visit tourist attraction in Cologne. The place is mostly crowded on the weekend and the getting a ticket there might become a big challenge. The place is located right at the heart of the city so it’s easily accessible but parking is a problem, the place doesn’t have its own parking, need to use nearby parking places and walk to the museum. The place has lot of history and future plans for chocolate industry, also the making of chocolate. A whole floor is dedicated for chocolate making and you can see how chocolate bars are made by looking at the working machines. There is also small chocolate outlet to get chocolates and souvenirs from the museum.

Bought our tickets online the day of our visit, thoroughly enjoyed this museum! Really interesting walk through that explains the origin of chocolate and how it’s made. Very educational and bonus you get to enjoy freshly made chocolate at the end. Also bought some chocolate from the gift shop which is all very delicious. We also took a rest at the attached cafe, where we enjoyed our drinks and chocolate cake. Really enjoyed our visit here!

I would not say that this is a must visit on your trip to Cologne. Also with entry ticket at at EUR 14 per adult, the place is a bit expensive. We went to the place as a family with our four year old son. The place gives information on chocolate processing, and one can find live chocolate production happening at the place. You can taste the freshly made chocolate, if you buy tickets to the museum. Overall the place is OK, If you are on a leisurely trip to Cologne, you may visit the place.

Nice place to have an idea about how the 'Lindt' chocolates are made. Very nice place to take children for their level of excitement. Especially nice to see the different types of process throw which chocolates are made. It's one of a kind experience. Not to forget and miss the free sample tasting of chocolate wafers provided. The museum is not so big and the whole tour takes about 1-1,5 h. It's good to come in the morning as it isn't crowded. To avoid waiting in the line, I would recommend buying the tickets earlier via the website. In the museum you can see a lot of information about each step of chocolate production. Actually you will get an answer to all kinds of questions about chocolate. Inside there is a small production line which is very interesting. In the end, you may taste a fresh piece of chocolate or try something sweet from the chocolate fountain. This is definitely a place worth visiting however the price of the ticket could be a bit lower.

Really sweet experience! They give some free Lindt chocolate when you enter, good for some sugar rush as you explore the museum. You can try some free chocolates at various chocolate stations. You get to see the process of making chocolate and you’ll also see some robotic machinery they use now. If you come in after 5pm, they have a ticket sale, since they close at 6pm. The chocolates in the store are also priced well.

Really interesting factory museum. I thought they did a nice job including a wide array of interests/considerations to include some relating to fair trade and global warming concerns in the chocolate industry. Lots to look at, you could spend half a day here for sure. Loved the shop, plenty to buy there. One of the coolest things was that you have the opportunity to have a custom chocolate bar made right in front of you!

Fun for the entire family. I think particularly those with children would do themselves a disservice by not going to this place. But even those who would perhaps have a grey hair more than they would like are still going to find something fun and educational in the visit. The tour is well laid out and you get great views of the city . Its a well spent time in Cologne.

This is an amazing place to be. Although there was a huge crowd both in and outside the museum you’ll love it there. So detailed illustration of how chocolate is made. You’ll also get small gifts both when going in, inside and when going outside. It’s a lovely experience

Without question, this is certainly one of the best zoos I have ever been to. The animals have big habitats and lots of space, with the ability to disappear from public view if they feel like it. This zoo is home to so many animals, and I was impressed to see that they even harbor a rare breed like the snow leopard. They offer multiple opportunities to stop for food and drinks, from small food stands selling fries and icecream to a restaurant offering multiple lunch options, cold as well as hot drinks, and dessert. Benches are scattered all throughout the zoo, meaning if you want to sit down and just admire the animals or simply take a break, you always can. As I implied at the beginning, this zoo is rather huge. Therefore I would advise you to plan accordingly for the entire day. There is just too much to see, and you simply can’t cover all of it in two hours. My stay lasted for about six hours. Also, please note that the bird show is closed during winter season. To summarize this review, I had a great day here and I absolutely loved it. If you are contemplating on visiting this zoo, I can only highly recommend it.

Very nice zoo, animals look like they are cared for with love. Only downside was that there were only 2 restaurants open in the zoo, with 30+ degrees. Would be better to have more places to be able to drink or sit with hot weather.

The signage and information boards were not as informative or interactive as I would have liked, making it harder to fully understand the animals' backgrounds and conservation efforts. Despite these minor drawbacks, Cologne Zoo is a commendable attraction, providing a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages. With a bit of modernization and enhanced informational displays, it has the potential to become an even more exceptional destination for wildlife enthusiasts and families seeking a day of animal-filled adventure.

Nice city zoo. Some of the exhibits are wide and new, others seem old-fashioned. It's compact, as most city zoos are. The nicest exhibits are the huge elephant exhibit, the primates, and the hippodom(e).

One of the best zoos we have been to. The admission fee was reasonable and under the bridge, right across the street from the entrance, is a bunch of parking that was only 5 euro. We enjoyed the sea lion show, we were amazed at how well they could catch frisbees and balance balls. The food inside the zoo was also reasonably priced. The zoo got a little crowded, but that is to be expected on a Saturday.

A really great zoo garden. There is a vast array of animal species housed within the zoo. Cologne Zoo boasts an impressive collection of wildlife from all around the world including reptiles and insects. The whole zoo is really well organized and pleasant to take a walk through. Easy to reach with public transport.

I read the reviews and almost skipped this place but gave it a go and thoroughly enjoyed it. I spent a full day exploring the place. Could easily and happily spend the day there from opening until closing. The feeding times and shows were all on (except otters) Signage in English was limited but not an issue. Food and drink inside the place was somewhat expensive but there are nearby shops to stock up for the day.

A day is not enough to spend your time here with your loved ones. There is a ticket counter so you don't have to worry incase you didn't book it in advance. The train station is directly infront of the place so it is easily accessible. There are different places allocated to the animals according to their place of origin or their environment so it is exciting to go from one to another and spend your time. There are coffee shops in between and also restrooms available. Highly recommend to go early and spend your quality time there. You can also take snacks inside and get a picture clicked as a souvenir.

Kids' playgrounds look good; there are restaurants (fast-food - not the best value for money) and vending machines. The zoo was packed on a Saturday. The aquarium seemed like a after thought. Definitely not worth a visit if you are on a tight schedule. For such a large zoo, it seemed kinda empty ( animals wise) For my students here you are able to get some discount just show your student card. Any card will do as long it has your face

This place must be on your to go list. It is actually office building, but on top is observation point surrounded with glass and with open roof. View is perfect, you can see city of Cologne, bridges and Cathedral. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance for symbolic price. Monday - not crowded at all.

Amazing view of the city from the top of this building. You can buy the ticket at the entrance for just €5 per person. They have an elevator that takes you directly to the 28th floor, then you need to climb another flight of stairs to reach the observation deck. They did have another wheelchair accessible elevator, but I'm not sure if it takes you all the way up to the deck. The view of the city was definitely great, you can make out most of the prominent landmarks from the top. Highly recommend this if you've got the time.

It is the best location to take pictures for Cologne Dom! You will have an amazing view of the whole city. Face mask is needed. No need to book.

A very good observation deck that has a 360 view of Cologne. Worth the money, and it also has a toilet right at the top! Worth noting I’m not sure how people in wheelchairs can access the top. They have a lift but you have to then go up more stairs (so worth checking). You’ll probably spend 15 minutes up here max but it is totally worth it!

Great view from up, the ticket costs 5€ per adult. You need to take the lift until 24th floor and then take stairs for next two floors. You find yourself up their you will witness a spectacular view of cologne cathedral, the bridge, Rhine river, and rest of the cologne.

The best tower to get capture the entire view of the city of Cologne. Need to visit when the weather is clear so that you can see till Bonn. There is not much rush. The ticket charge is 4€ for students and 5€ for adults. The ticket counter is at the ground floor of the building after which a lift takes you to 26th floor. 360 degree view is possible. If you have a professional camera, then it's a real worth for a visit.

Beautiful space and easy access, just 2 minutes walk from the famous Cologne Cathedral. You might need 3-4 hours to cover the whole 3 floors of the exhibition space. They also commit to sustainability and try to integrate it into many aspects-operation, program, and building. The museum restaurant is also very high quality. Absolutely love the time spent there

Super nice museum to visit if you're interested in pop art and many pieces of Picasso. Very spacious so plenty of room to walk around. Also today wasn't really crowded so everything was easy to see and information could all be read at a leisurely speed. You can spend up to three hours here easily.

I love this museum of modern art! Great collection of Picasso, really cool Pop-art part, you can find also Rothko, Kandinsky, Dali, Malevich, Otto Dix, Warhol and many others. You need at least 3-4 hours to see all. There is free admission every first Thursday of the month for those who is registered in Cologne (Anmeldung required)

Excellent modern art collection in great architecture. We liked the cafe as well, it’s possible to have a drink and hop back into your visit. Terraces are great to catch a view over the dome and get some fresh air. Basement has changing collection. All together great place for a 3-4 hour visit, highly recommend.

Excellent collection and stellar curation; keeping the Haubrich collection together in one place was fascinating. Pop art collection was surprisingly big, highly recommend "Portable War Memorial" as featured in a lot of the pictures on here. There's an exhibition on 20th Century Ukranian art at the moment which was also cool, very good recontextualisation of artists thought of as "Russian", and some cool illustrations made for Ukranian theatre.

Amazing collection, beautiful building. The museum Ludwig houses mostly modern art, including pop art, Dadaist work, expressionist work, and others. It’s an impressive collection and well curated. The building is skylit and spacious, making for a pleasant and easy walk through.

Although I’m not a huge fan of modern art, I enjoyed this place so much. A lot of themes you can enjoy, especially I loved the “In Situ” temporary exhibition!

We happened to visit this place because we had just arrived hungry to the city and this place is so close to Hauptbahnhof. This place is so huuuge that we luckily got table even without reservation. We tried their Schnitzel and Veggie burger and Schnitzel was amazing but burger could have been better as the spread was very sour. I also tried their home brewed beer and OMG it was so good. Waiters were very friendly and everything was good. It would be good if we had more vegetarian options. Otherwise I loved everything about this place.

What a beer house!! Don't miss this one for a bite and a beer when you arrive in Köln! It's your classic schnitzel style pork knuckle beer house with several Germanic delights on the menu. My schnitzel was a little small and way to many fries, but you get stock standard goodness for what you pay for. All up, €41.90 for 2 meals, 2 beers and a red wine. Lovely!!

You go here for the experience, the beer and ideally to make some noise with your friends. Staff was fun and helpful. Food portions are large so don’t be shy. Make sure you book your table in advance if you go in the evening and don’t be too late. They will keep your table for like half an hour, after that they will accommodate someone else if you didn’t show up.

THE BEST SCHNITZEL in Cologne. Gaffel am Dom is located right across the Köln train station. So, it’s located close to a ton of sights and activities. The Köln cathedral is a few steps away. What matters about this restaurant is the food and the ambience, it’s the best in town. Their staff is super friendly and will try their best to get you a place even on busy nights. Better to have a reservation. We got lucky! Their schnitzel in mushroom sauce is out of this world and the beers take seconds to arrive. And they make sure you’re never left dry! Gaffel is just next to the Cologne cathedral! Pork knuckle 🍖 Should try once in Germany! The knuckle was super big, enough for two people, and the skin was super crispy! The meat tasted good, but it was a but salty for me. I also loved the delicious potatoes, better than I had in the UK! Oversized bratwurst 🌭 It was also tasty and salty too. And cabbage could smooth and more fresh. Meat loaf I would say once is enough😂 It was a bit tasteless and dry.

The restaurant is just located behind the Dom. Easy to find. Very traditional German style renovation with their own beer machine. We had pork knuckle, bread, braised pork and sausage. €17 pax for dinner and €8.9 pax for lunch. We went for both, loll.

One of the best restaurants in the area if you want a never-ending supply of kölsch beer and gigantic portion sizes food-wise. When entering you may think you will have to wait for an hour for service - the place is packed. But everything will come along with great speed. Not very pricey and the waitstaff is great. Food is excellent german fare. Heartily recommended!

A meal here feels like an authentic German experience. The building is beautiful, food is traditional, and the beer just keeps flowing. Had to wait a little while for a table, but you can tell that the servers are trying their best to seat and feed everyone as quickly as possible. I highly recommend trying their sauerkraut soup!

This is yet another gorgeous building steeped with tradition and history. Today I had the Mettbrötchen (raw pork sandwich) and Kolsch Leberwurst (liver pâté sandwich). We washed it down with some Kolsch beer and Fassbrause (brewed fruit drink that tastes like lemon, lime, and bitters). An excellent lunch was had.

The first time I was there the food was great, especially Sauerkraut. And the beer also. But the second time weal was not good. Sausage was kinda dry. And the tables outside are very dirty and old.

A fantastic traditional German restaurant/bar. Great staff and of course great food. We were a large group & we had a varied order from the menu. All was fantastic. My favourite was the Schweinehaxe(pork knuckle roasted to a crisp!!)I would highly recommend Peters Brauhaus

Really good place for some authentic German food. We joined a long line outside but it moved quickly, we were then held in the bar area until a table became free. Food was excellent, especially enjoyed the Broad beans dish. Service was quick with fresh beers arriving quickly. Definitely worth visiting if you want an authentic experience.

Nice historical brewery of Cologne. There was a line in around 9 pm but it moved fast and we got a table withing five minutes of wait. Food was good especially the goulash. We liked the Kolsch beer and they keep on serving more beer if your glass is empty until you say no. Service was decent but the server sensing we were non German tourists asked for tips which was first for us in Germany. We obliged to add a tip which was alright with us but something to note for others non native tourists who are not used to any tipping culture.

The ice cream coffee is really recommend!!! Sweet ice cream combined with the bitter taste of black coffee👍🏻 Unfortunately I ordered two cakes that weren't that tasty, The top is too sweet, and the bottom is too hard. I will try next time!

An extremely charming cafe and restaurant located in a perfect viewing location across the cathedral! The service is definitely slow and they may forget an order but everything we ate was wonderful- highly recommend the beef liver with roasted apples and mashed potatoes, the roasted duck salad, and the poppyseed cheesecake. Prices are expensive but given the atmosphere and location, it makes sense. The interior is gorgeous with many seating options from indoor, outdoor, or within a covered glass window viewing area. Bathrooms are downstairs and cost 50 cents.

One of the oldest cafes of Cologne. It has nostalgic vibe. Cheesecakes are really delicious. If you are vegan maybe this information can be helpful. They said they do not offer vegan desserts but only vegeterian ones.

A short walk right across from the cathedral, don’t be fooled by the line, it goes pretty quick. The food is good and reasonably priced given the proximity to everything. The bathrooms are super nice just remember to bring .50€ to tip the bathroom lady. Only other bummer is people smoking at the tables but hey it is Europe. The waiters are friendly but they won’t come to your table all the time to check on you- so if you need something like mayo for your potatoes and schnitzel, make sure to flag them down early. Finally, the dessert selection is off the charts. All the cakes look amazing. I had the black forest cake and it was delicious.

Looks nicer than tasted (when compared to the good Paris patisseries). Coffee & hot choc pretty good though!

Super friendly staff in terrace seating area. Toilets are very funny (from an American viewpoint), they have see thru glass until you lock the door, then it frosts up. Got the blueberry pancake, but lots of it was more blueberry than pancake. View was amazing, and kudos to the servers for being awesome.

Café right across from the Dom. We went during the winter which was fine (warm inside) but I guess it's nicer during the summer when you can sit outside. It's a nice place, with great cake and coffee. Quiet crowded. Quite pricey because of it's location and there is typcially a queue outside.

We went here for breakfast and the view of the cathedral/location is amazing. The patio is shaded by a huge tree and the cathedral is in the background, which makes for a cool meal. I got bacon an scrambled eggs and my wife got a croissant with juice and coffee. It was a solid meal and we would definitely go back. I am sure there are better places, but for just stopping by and not knowing anything about it except the location was great.

Very busy, make sure you book a table in advance. They accept walkins but be prepared to wait 45 to 60 minutes for a table. The portions are massive and i think its more for tourists than locals. I've had better quality schnitzel and to be honest chips were a little undercooked and hard. By all means worth a visit and make sure your hungry when you visit. I would always recommend a sauce, as it can be a bit dry.

Excellent experience all around. Staff was friendly and attentive. The schnitzel was insanely delicious, as was the Kölsch and wine. Portions are huge. One of my favorite meals in Germany, and the best schnitzel I’ve ever had. Highly recommend!

We came here to try the best schnitzel in Köln, so we had high expectations. We got a very big schnitzel and according to my boyfriend who’s kind of a schnitzel tasting expert it was very very good indeed. You really get worth of your money and the people are very nice either. We didn’t have to wait long for the food/drinks. Definitely recommend but try to make sure you make a reservation!

This is the BEST place I have ever tasted. It was the second time I've been to Cologne and the second time in this place, and the service and food continued to be the BEST. It's a must when you're in Köln. The “original” schinitzel with mushroom sauce is PERFECT and the small portion is big enough for one person. The beer is great and the service is kind. PS: they accept payment with debit card and they have 2 options of vegetarian plate (cheese and celery).

Lovely little place in the hip part of Cologne. The place is built like a time machine with its decor. The locals mentioned it’s usually tough to get a table on a weekend. But i managed to one within 40 min of queues. The food was great, schnitzel done well. Maybe not the best in the world but definitely the best one in Cologne. The food took ages to come mostly due to the sheer number of guests being served. The staff is friendly & overall its a local gem.

I'm not even sure you're supposed to eat the gigantic schnitzel solo but we ordered one each, one with eggs and one with sauce, both equally hard to finish off, but thoroughly enjoyable. The salad at the start was a rogue move, I wasn't sure if we were supposed to eat it before or wait for the main. Either way, I absolutely loved it. It was moreish until it wasn't. It was delicious, crispy and juicy. The atmosphere was vibrant, the street it is on was chaotic, and a fun spot to bounce around before and after. Reservation made online for 9pm was a touch, but also probably a touch too late to then try to go out drinking on that full of a stomach. I'd go again, and encourage anyone else to go too, but prepare to be too full to move.

This is the place to have a Schnitzel when you're in Cologne. Be prepared to wait in line for a while in order to get inside, but that is totally worth it. In a very traditional atmosphere the great staff manages to make you feel at home and enjoy a nice meal along with some beers. The closer you sit to the counter, the faster you will get your refills.

Tucked away little spot that serves cold beer and hot schnitzel. Went during the Christmas holiday season and they had the whole place decked out in decorations. Schnitzel was solid. Seating is limited, so the staff will politely ask you to wrap up at your table so they can continue to seat guests.

Great place with really friendly staff. Wasn't sure what we were doing but the staff spoke great English and told us what they recommend. Got the vegan schnitzel and tasted different but nice and love the option to choose any sauce! Kölsch was good as well!

My wife and I ate here at the recommendation of a train seat mate as well as our waiter at a pub the night before. Both said that this was their favorite restaurant in Cologne for schnitzel. What better recommendation could you ask for than two locals recommending the same restaurant in the span of a couple hours. We, of course, had to go. I am glad we did as this was not on our radar from Yelp or google simply because of the radius search from our hotel. We took a cab from the train station (right near our hotel) to the restaurant and got there about 10 mins before it opened. There was already a line and we got the last outside table. It was about 30 minutes before we got our meal because everyone ordered at once, but the beer was flowing and the weather was perfect so we did not even notice. The schnitzel was hands down the best I have ever had and I was full with a full plate remaining. The portions are huge and that does not take away from the quality. I would recommend this to anyone and just get the original, it is a classic for a reason.

Really nice stop.. just outside of the tourist spot.. looks more like a locals restaurant and pub.. reall homely and Christmas feel to it. Staff were real nice and the menu loomed great by I just popped in for a few beers.

We were on a tour and the food was great. We had a raw pork appetizer that was as delicious as it was scary. Beer service was fast and the food was delicious.

Decent brauhaus food in a very traditional establishment. The service could be a little better and it seems as if the waiters are a little selective about who they (like to) serve. Apparently one of the few brew houses, that serves Kölsch that is brewed on site, but it’s not my favourite.

Crispy pork knuckles and nice Kolsh on tap! friendly staff and best to get a reservation or go early!

The waiters were friendly and the Christmas market was right across the street! We ordered the fried pork knuckle (with potato, the first pork knuckle dish listed on the menu)- it was absolutely incredible!!! The waiter was kind enough to break it open for us as it takes a little finesse. Our beer glasses were continually filled with very fresh Kolsch which was lovely. I would love to visit again next time we are in Cologne!

The place to be in Köln if you’re looking for beer and pork dishes in a traditional Brauerei environment. Always very crowded.

Nice place with good beer. Decoration is classic old German. Food was nice but not so tasty as expected. Service was very good but prices a bit higher.

Stopped in for my wife's favorite beer, Kolsch. What a great experience. They keep bringing the beer until you cover your glass, fresh glass and fresh beer each time. Had to even try their Mettbr|tchen (for raw pork on breadroll). A German treat, and it was great.

Dinner (Haxe) was good. Kölsch was priced too high at 2.30€.

Such a fun a experience! We enjoyed a couple traditional German dishes along with their very refreshing Kölsch (beer). I love the tradition that they continue to bring you beer until you cover your empty beer glass with your coaster. I tried the Fried pork knuckle with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. The pork fell off the bone. Very filling and flavorful. We also shared a salad with goat cheese, that was delicious! The service was friendly and engaging. We really enjoyed our experience. One of our friends is pescatarian and he said his dish was also very flavorful!
