Nice stop first thing in the morning. We started our day here, trying to beat the heat. Very impressive fort built atop the hill. Steep walk up the ramps to the top of the hill. If you can get a tour guide, lots of information on the history of and importance of this fort. There are a couple of tunnels and walkways to go down as you explore your way around the fort.

Highly recommend a tour guide, as there is nothing to explain the history of this place once there. If you’re not into history, then I would skip it. The photos are fun to take with the canons. Bring water, no shade unless your walking through the tunnel.

Must visit castle at Cartagena. The views of the city are outstanding, while heritage is well preserved. The tour takes about an hour long, and there are cool tunnels on the way. Street vendors could be somewhat annoying.

I strongly advice not to waist your money and time here. Specially don’t come if the heat and sun are too strong. If you really feel you want to visit this place I would come very early or at sunset. The line to buy the tickets its usually long and slow but the worst part is the hundreds of street vendors trying to sell you and umbrella, a hat or water. They will be very very pushy and annoying. If you are already here you must have: a hat, big bottle of water and maybe they will ignore you. The ticket is not super expensive but the views are not cool, the museography is non existent, there are no tours unless you paid for private ones and the view from the top is super boring. This fort is more of you explore and google if you have questions. There are a couple of sign with information but it’s boring and not very helpful. I didn’t learn anything at the end. Skip this place and go to city and enjoy a cocktail, you will thank me later.

Touring the castle was amazing. Our tour guide Jorge did an outstanding job of explaining all the details of the castle's design and history. I would recommend this for anyone going to Cartagena

There are no historical explanations or remarks Even tho this is named as a “castle” it is actually better labeled as a fortress . This is a concrete fortress with some narrow tunnels , that’s it. Unless you are a history person the only thing to enjoy is to take some pictures at the top.I also feel that the balance of cost / entertainment is bad. Maybe more interesting than the fortress itself is the monument nearby which has a stolen coin made by the British empire to celebrate what they thought would be a victory . It is a beautiful historic place, the views are fantastic from the castle. I only wish there were more people telling the history of it not just the bus tour guides as we did not arrived with them and so you miss a lot of the interesting facts about the place. One thing to keep in mind is that the street vendors will tell you to buy water or hats before entering, but you are also able to find and buy at the top of the castle at the store.

A must visit when in Cartagena. I would recommend going here as soon as they open so that the sun is not as harsh. The tunnels and architectural importance of the castle and its capability to defend the city is worth a visit. A very rich history and a great place to spend and hr or two

Must-see place to visit with family or friends. You can do the guided tour. Wish we had done that, it would've been more fun. But as most folks will tell you, come prepared, get water, sun glasses, hat or else you will get cooked in the sun. We did it in 35° heat and it was almost unbearable. You may find relief as you go to the top, the breeze provides some relief (only if you are unobstructed). The flag and fort background is the most photographed spot in entire Cartagena. My recommendation would be to plan your visit such that you are there for sunset. Anyways enjoy!!!

This place is beautiful. It makes you feel like in Southern Spain. There is catholic church, a restaurant and decoration. Good place to grab a coffee...

Loved the beauty. The only thing that made this place ugly was the CONSTANT harassment to buy things. I get it, that's how some make the most of their living but this isn't somewhere you go to relax. We got used to it after a while though. Other than that, I would visit again.

The Sanctuary takes you through the history of San Pedro Claver who dedicated most of his life to evangelizing slaves in Cartagena during the 1600’s. He was canonized as a saint in 1888 by Pope Leo XIII. You can spend a good hour or so touring the church, garden, artwork, and the rooms where Claver lived and worked. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in Cartagena.

A muted cathedral with beautiful stained glass windows. Lovely history of Saint Peter Claver and his advocacy and care of indigenous peoples and African slaves. Truly inspiring and definitely worth a visit.

One of the historic buildings to visit in Cartagena. You shouldn't miss it.

The church of the Santuario de San Pedro Claver (1580-1654) in Cartagena, Colombia, was constructed of limestone brought from nearby Isla de Tierra Bomba. Originally a Jesuit church, it suffered serious damage during the republican upheavals of the mid 19th century. The remains of Catholic saint San Pedro Claver are beneath the high altar. The rose window depicts the Jesuit saint preaching to black slaves. The Oratorio contains a painting of Claver, the "Slave of slaves forever", of his death bed surrounded by black converts. Claver has been called the "Patron of Human Rights" for his work evangelizing the enslaved Africans of New Granada.

Check the opening time before you go. On the day when we were there the church was closed until the evening, so unfortunately I didn't get to see it inside. Enjoyed watching the busy and lively area surrounding it.

Excellent Emerald museum worth a visit. It shows the emerald mining, and source if emerald around the world. There are many types and size and grades of emerald on show. There is a jewelry shop selling emerald jewelry on site too. But the best of emerald is not there probably due to bthe type of visitors there. There best is probably has been auctioned off to the top Jewelers around the world in New York, London, Paris and Switzerland.

It's a great place definitely did not know Colombia was the emerald capital of the world. They put themselves off as a wholesaler of emeralds but in actuality in their showroom tried to charge but seems to be retail prices. Probably after you're feeling high and lovely off of the tour and emerald happy. You will have a great experience and the people are very knowledgeable but a little pricey

We took the jewelry making class that was included as an optional side event on our Columbia tour. The class was interesting just to get an idea of how jewelry is made. We also toured the museum and learned about emerald mining and as well as some information about emeralds themselves. Finally, we visited the gift shop where my wife purchased a piece of emerald jewelry. It is quite easy to negotiate a 20% discount off the posted prices. If you are a tourist, and you purchase a jewelry item here, you are entitled to a refund of the Columbia value added tax (VAT) which amounts to 20% of the actual purchase price. To receive this refund, the vendor needs to provide the buyer with an electronic receipt that includes a QR code. We asked for this when we purchased the item. The store sales person provided us a receipt that did not include the required information and insisted that it was all we needed, even after we asked a couple of times to have an electronic receipt. When we tried to apply for our VAT refund upon departure at the airport, the agent said that the receipt that was provided was not sufficient, and explained what was needed. We are now in the the situation of having to work through our travel company to have the Emerald Museum provide us with the necessary documentation so that we can receive our VAT refund. This situation could have been avoided if the sales agent had provided the necessary documentation at the time of purchase.

We have been looking for a dinner spot just like this during our entire stay in Caratgena! Not only was the ambiance cozy, relaxing, and beautiful, but there was also a live sax musician performing for us in the main dining room. We were pleasantly surprised by the good prices as well as delicious and beautifully presented food. The fresh fish was buttery and I especially loved their coconut rice! They also gave us plantain chips, on the house, to start. The service here was also very pleasant, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, if you are looking for a chill spot for dinner in the old town that is friendly and reasonably priced, you will find that here. The restaurant is also a lot bigger than you'd expect, making this ideal for large groups. Would recommend this restaurant if you want a more casual yet romantic date night. We spent 143 thousand COP, including tip, for 2 cocktails and 2 entrees.

The service and food was amazing, we got Caribbean style fish filet and pork bbq ribs both meals were delicious! Coco rice is the best I’ve tried so far. The restaurant is beautiful and there’s pretty rad patio in the back of the restaurant. Highly Recommend!

Great Caribbean-style food, and the service is wonderful! The wait staff is very friendly and will happily recommend to you any of their favorite dishes. The mango margarita was the best I have ever had! You must try it!

The restaurant door is small, and only open a half when we arrived at 8:30 pm. We were not sure if it was open, but once we got in, it opened up a limited indoor space with good ambiance and inviting decoration. We ordered juice, kamarlon, shrimp rice, etc. all were delicious. The appetizer are cold shrimp with fried plantains. Their plantains are long and thin slices dipped with yogurt- very delicious and different from the other restaurants. I strongly recommend this Caribbean restaurant.

Great price quality/quantity, cozy atmosphere, more local. We went here on a Sunday, our last day in Cartagena and it was great. That Sunday’s special- cazuela de mariscos was absolutely fantastic (not sure if they have it every day though), and the other shrimp dish was also very delicious.

Had the shrimp pasta and it was good! It is quite popular with tourists and hence do visit if you have a chance! Unfortunately, do not recommend the vege bowl as the vegetables (including mushroom) was all raw. Not worth the price paid and would recommend to order other vegetarian options.

Can be easy to miss (sign is small) so keep a look out. Simple menu but great plates. Freshly made juices are definitely an enjoyable addition.

We first heard of La Mulata from another couple during an excursion. After seeing the great online reviews, we decided to dine there on our last night in Cartagena. It was a great choice! The restaurant sits in the heart of the walled city and is easily accessible by foot. The decor is catchy and the table layout allows for a cozy experience for dinners. Moving on to the food, this was definitely some of the tastiest food that we had on this trip. They served traditional regional dishes with great flavor. Our favorite was hands down the Posta Negra Cartagenera, which is meat slowly cooked cooked to a fall off the bone delicious delicacy. The food was definitely worth the bang for your buck. We at the Zasón Guide definitely recommend visiting if you are near the area. Extraordinary: Smell, Taste ÇÇ

5 stars for food, 4 stars for service. Food was delicious, freshly cooked and rich in flavor. The vibe of the restaurant was also really beautiful. Also highly recommend the cocktails and juices. The only issue was service was extremely slow. It took us 50 minutes to get our food so make sure to remind them of your order if it does not come out in time.

yet another incredible seafood dining experience in Cartagena. we visited La Mulata for lunch and were seated outside. shortly after this we were all treated to a customary bowl of broth - which was very tasty and an unexpected treat. i went for the pasta carmones (shrimp) and was not disappointed. as per usual the Colombians went ham the portion size, with a loaf of pasta and prawns. I also had a bowl of cheese to top it all off. the prawns were perfectly cooked and super juicy. this made it into my top three meals whilst out in Colombia. the service was very good too. recommend for anyone in Cartagena!

I have eaten here many many times…. I just can’t get enough of the coconut rice… arroz de coco… yummy. Paired with vegetables, filet of a freshly caught fish, plantains and limonada de coco 🥥…. Do not skip dessert.

Summary: definitely worth the walk over from hotel in the burning heat for a late lunch here. Good quality drink and food for fair price. Food - good quality food and we are blown away on every dish. They gave you something to taste after ordering. Drink is made of top quality alcohol unlike some places. Service is great. I had the opportunity to dine here during a recent trip to Cartagena. There is a lot of buzz for this spot. Reservations require a credit card be several follow up messages. I chose the 7 course tasting with wine. I sat outside on the patio. The service began with finesse and attention and sadly finished on the clumsy side. The courses are small and the pairings range from a local beer to a wine with peppermint. Some of the dishes were quite outstanding and the flavors were complex. Some like the chickpea dish fell flat for me. The server doing the wine pairing was rushed and never took time to discuss the wines. I enjoyed the experience and the chance to take part in a space that is unique and deeply rooted in the home city.

This place is on par with Michelin star restaurants in the US and highly recommend. 2 of my friends got the tasting menu with very reasonably priced wine tasting and enjoyed that experience however I "made my own" tasting menu by sharing 3 apps and 2 entrees with friends, and of course a few desserts which I found to be much better value. The ceviche is the best I've ever had and the octopus was yummy as well. No complaints on the pork tacos but would stick with other options. The fish and brisket were the two entrees and honestly they were both so good it would be difficult to pick a favorite. On desserts all delightful ways to finish the meal - the "Twinkie" was my favorite. They were also very accommodating of allergies and preferences and were able to modify the tasting menu for my friend which was very nice.

Must visit, unique dining experience in the heart of Cartagena. I settled for a lunch reservation since dinner was booked, but the 7 course menu with wine pairing was still just as good! The portions are small so you don’t feel too full by the end of the tasting, but there’s certainly plenty of food. It’s hard to pick a favorite dish since they all had unique and fantastic preparations, but I have to give a special shoutout to the rice from the sea bass dish since it was by far the best risotto type rice I’ve had in my life. The waiter was attentive and explained each dish to us (in English!). Super high end, yet at a fair price point and in a more relaxed atmosphere. I visited 3 years ago and am so happy I returned.

This restaurant was recommended by the manager of my hotel and it didn't disappoint. Located in Cartagena's historic district, it is super cute. They also had live music. I ordered a seafood dish, which came with shrimp, mussels and octopus. Delicious! My partner ordered a beef specialty, and she liked it plenty. We started with empanada appetizer, which I also recommend. They brought yuca bread on the house. Our server was very friendly and answered all our questions. I would return.

Our favorite meal in Cartagena by far! The setting was beautiful with an outdoor courtyard and indoor air conditioned tables. The service was fast and generous; they brought us an extra small appetizer and an extra dessert that were both fantastic and on the house. For food, we loved everything we got: the ceviche, the Al pastor tacos, the burrata salad, the brisket, and the pork belly. Everything was just out of this world especially the pork belly. Portions are fairly even between entradas and mains.

Excellent service and vibes 🔥! Great food and I loved the empanadas and the pez palma. The twinkie dessert (tres leches) was cool. I LOVED the Rubi cocktail and it is the closest thing to a mimosa with prosecco inside. So worth it! I would definitely return and I highly recommend!

Great place to see a sunset in the Walled City. It’s a perfect view since there’s no obstructions past the wall. I give it a 4/5 cause it does get VERY busy. Arrive by 4:30 so that you are seated by 5pm. There is a long line that forms to get in. I highly advise getting a reservation so that you don’t have to wait. Also, the best seating is for those who have reservations. We lucked out and got a good spot, but that wasn’t the case for most people. Contrary to other reviews, the service was quiet good. The staff is constantly running around since they go from an empty restaurant to fill capacity within 30min. Also, it was very windy while we were there, just an FYI. Otherwise, I’d recommend going if you have never been, you can’t beat the view!

This is the place to watch the sunset when you’re in Cartagena. The service is great and drinks are cold but the views are increíble. The food is good but there’s way better spots in the city for dining. Highly recommend with family, friends, date or solo. This city is stunning and where else can you relax on top of the wall around a city. It briefly rained but stay seated or take brief shelter at the bar as the storms usually pass in a few minutes.

The line to get into the place was long but it was fast to get in you have to percent your vaccination card and an ID to be able to get in. The views, breeze, and location are amazing. I came for drinks only so I can’t comment on the food. I ordered a pina colada which was actually awful. Maybe the other drinks are done better. The texture was trash. I took one sip and gave it back. They truly insisted on leaving it on my tab though which didn’t make sense. The server who brought the check insisted it would come out of her pay but I didn’t even order it from her. She also didn’t make it, the bartender did. I didn’t understand why they insisted I pay for something that wasn’t made well. I’m giving it 3 stars because of the location, and ambiance.

If you're looking for a place to watch the sunset over Cartagena this is it. It's a very popular place so make reservations if you can or get there early because there will most definitely be a decent sized line. The food was good, the drinks were great. It's a big place so it can seem a bit chaotic especially during the sunset period, but they have ample and welcoming staff.

We made a reservation and it was 10000% necessary…the line was SO long and started way before the restaurant opened up. People had to watch the sunset from a line. Views were beautiful! We got a table right be the edge. The food and drinks weren’t that good so I would suggest getting food beforehand or afterwards. Service was extremely slow. As expected it was extremely hot, so we brought sweat rags and a mini fan. That helped a tiny bit. I’m happy we went so that we can say we went but I definitely would not go again.

Service took too long. No one offered, the simplest thing to offer someone at every table, a basic need....water. A party of four. We ordered Corona micheladas. All the beers were warm. We were then offered "ice." A beer should always be cold and never ever with ice. The bathrooms are downstairs; down a very steep long ramp, and not the kind you can take wheelchairs on. So please ladies, DO NOT wear high heels to this place, and please do not drink a lot of alcohol if you are planning to go down the that steep ramp. Bathrooms do not have toilet tissue, another basic necessity lacking.

Had the opportunity to eat at The Rum Box a few times on this last trip. The food, service and atmosphere was stellar. Our waitress Jessi, was very patient with us as we used our translator to order our food and converse with her. She has a wonderful spirit to serve her customers. The rum was outstanding. Prior to you receiving your food, a shot of rum is brought to your table along with some chocolate as a chaser. We went multiple times in which we ordered a number of items from the menu as the prices and value of the food were perfect. Be sure to try to the Sea Bass with Creole Onion sauce. You won’t be disappointed.

Had an absolutely incredible tasting with Jesus last night! We were only expecting rum and chocolates, but the tasting also included amazing tapas. The tapas came from their own restaurant and we will definitely go there as well. It was some of the best seasoned food we had ever tasted. Jesus was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and made the experience one we will never forget. Yes the tasting was pricey, but worth every penny! Definitely a MUST DO activity while in Cartagena ❤️

We stumbled across this restaurant and luckily they had a table available. We had the Passion Fruit Ceviche, the Carimañolas de Queso and the Salmon. In addition to the shot of rum, we had the Rum Rouge, Coconut Cream Dream and Te killer cocktails. Everything was delicious and the cocktails were very creative! Emily and Camila took great care of us and the bartenders were exceptional as well. We are so glad we found this place and can’t wait to go back. 5 stars!

I feel like they are the most underrated place for dinner in Cartagena! The staff are so friendly and helpful. I can’t remember the name of our server but her name started with an O and she was awesome! The food was amazing so were the drinks and the live music! We also loved how they put your name on a little sign on the table. They gave us some amazing chocolates as well. But we really loved the cute flower they brought out to my girlfriend with the bill.

Koko our bartender, was knowledgeable on her rums, generous with her pours, and striving to give the best experience possible. The staff is truly friendly. They do make you try about 9-11 different types of rum. An truly enjoyable experience. The food: completely in sync with the rum tasting experience. Catch of the day filet would just melt in your mouth. Vegetarian options available as well. Great flavors, great rum. Time and moneys worth. Will come back.

Just amazing experience. Reservation is reccomended as its a popular place (reservation system works perfect). Upon arrival there is a table with your name waitingg for you. Service is wonderful, professional, cheerful. English on a good level if you do not feel like speaking spanish. Food is amazing - delicious. We have been there 2 Times in 4 days and if I return to Cartagena, that is a must to go to. Drinks are as well great (my personal fave - coconut based)

Our host Jesus was amazing. Took us on a tour of Colombian rum and really set the atmosphere. The food and chocolate pairings were amazing. Definitely a must go when you visit colombia

I loved this restaurant so much. I made a reservation online and they had a table with my name on a led light cinema box (I think that’s what those are called?). We also received two rounds of free shots of their own rum with little pieces of chocolate and explained to us where the rum came from and why it tastes better with the chocolate. The servers were the sweetest!! I think they also gave us a complimentary sweet pepper, I was so drunk I can’t really remember.

My sister and I did a rum tasting with Adrian and it was the best experience ever!  During the tasting, we tried a variety of rums paired with small bites and/or chocolate.  Adrian was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had.  He made the rum tasting fun and it's an experience we will never forget!  We also had dinner reservations immediately after and we were lucky to have Adrian serving us.  The experience was just as exceptional as the rum tasting was!  The food was phenomenal and flavorful and Adrian provided excellent dinner recommendations and always had a smile on his face.  Most importantly, he was very personable and wanted to make sure we were enjoying our dining experience.   Thank you to the chef for delicious food and thank you Adrian for making our evening a great one!

Wonderful restaurant that's really more of an experience complete with live entertainment. We had the tasting menu for two, which turned out to be an excellent choice. The food was all delicious, and seemed to be mostly local dishes. The service was friendly and prompt. Prices are pretty reasonable as a tourist. Probably my favorite part was the cozy and immersive atmosphere full of plants and lights and all sorts of decorations that made it feel like a magical hideaway. Highly recommend for anyone visiting looking for a taste of local culture.

Great atmosphere with live music. The interior design is beautiful. The service was ok, it could have been faster since the restaurant was not busy. The food was great. Posta Cartagenera was tender and juicy. The seafood risotto a little undercooked but overall a good dish. The drink in the blue shell was fun to have. want to come back and try their Lobster plate, I saw it around and it looks very appetizing.

Great environment and beautiful place. Food was average. The lobster was good and meaty but the white sauce of the lobster was a bit too heavy and salty. Rabbit was flavorful but also a bit too salty. Drinks were well presented and flavors were good but nothing spectacular. I would eat here again but not something I would seek out for given the many options in the city.

Our experience here was amazing! We made a reservation the day before (HIGHLY recommend) and promptly got sat when we got there. The service was amazing, Juan David was our server and he was delightful and took great pictures of the whole family. The food was absolutely delicious and this was a whole experience rather than just a meal. I cannot recommend this place enough!

This restaurant is very desirable; however I recommend making a reservation if you want to eat here. This is my second time coming here and I really like the place but the service is not the best as some of the waiters are not friendly and they are not very accommodating. With that being said, I did enjoy the food the two times that I went. One of the plates that I ordered was not of my liking and I was offered a different dish which was really delicious.The drinks were really great. The dinner costed about $70 for 2 appetizers, one entree and 2 cocktails and a soda. The Atmosphere was really nice and there was a live band playing. Dancers also performed while we were there.

The atmosphere is the star!! Charming restaurant! The dance presentation and live band add a special touch to the experience. The menu is interesting, lobster bisque and cocktails were great! Not 5 stars on details. We really enjoyed our food (one of my shrimp wasn’t totally cleaned). The service is a mix because servers are very friendly but could be more proactive for the price you pay there. i.e I found myself finger up to order a drink refil; our table was blocked by a column (couldn’t see the stage), we asked if we could move to an empty table besides us, they said sorry that one was reserved (which is fine) and period. We had to ask again if we could be moved to any of the other empty tables, then a yes. I would recommend the experience for sure and we’d go back!

Truly amazing experience. The food, service and entertainment was over the top. Dress code is enforced, no tank tops, no sandals and no caps. Menu is designed for 2 people but as a solo diner, had an excellent meal as well.

Friendly staff, good food and great entertainment. It is a bit pricier than some other restaurant but if you consider the entertainment that you get for the price, it is a good deal. Make reservation online. Also for dinner no flip flops/sandals allowed for the guys since it is semi-formal. They do have shoes that you can borrow if you forget

The door staff are some of the most unfriendly we have ever met . Unsmiling, rude and to be honest we almost….almost didn’t bother so dismissive and unsmiling were they. Rope across door, a woman who had her smile surgically removed to be a frown. However we persevered, and at this point experience changed. We didn’t know there was a show. It was great. Food and waiting staff were fabulous. I would go so far as to say some of best food we have had on holiday. So in summary - please put your security guard and door staff on a customer welcoming course. Maybe as you are so busy it is a deliberate tactic to have rude front of house staff. The food is soooo good it is worth it….just!

A restaurant that should become, if it’s not already the case, a restaurant where all the people coming to Cartagena must pass by. The atmosphere is calm, with some live music/singer playing traditional Colombian song while you eat. The food is amazing you will experienced real Colombian coast cuisine. The cocktails are fresh made with fruits you can only find there. The service is really delicate, you feel they want you to spend a great time. It’s Ok to go without booking for lunch, better book for dinner
