Beautifully curated and well kept palace. There is so much history to be discovered, and so many new things to explore. It is very well kept, with cleaning every few weeks, for the outside. The town surrounding is very touristy, with many shops and restaurants to see. I would recommend going into the palace after lunch, so that you'll go in not starving.

The visitor experience here is really well done. We didn’t buy tickets ahead of time but there wasn’t much of a wait (<5 min) when we went on a Monday around 4pm. The histopad/tablet was a great interactive feature which made the overall visit more interesting. Loved the temporary Eva Jospin exhibits as well (which will be there until January 2024).

That’s the most exciting experience that I’ve had in the south of France. Of you a fun of history and old castles that’s place definitely can inspire and surprise you. You can take an excursion of walk through the Palace with a tablet which helps you digitally interact with different objects to feel a kind of belonging to a true history. That’d be very interesting for adults and kids. English is available. So if you have a chance to visit Avignon - don’t miss the chance.

We enjoyed visiting this palace very much. Once we arrived and paid our tickets, we were offered tables and headphones. While we took the self guided tour we could see with the help of the tablets the way in which each room looked like back in the day. We appreciate the integration of technology in the experience. The tickets we got included a visit on the Avignon bridge too.

We purchased a package that included the Palisade des Papes, the garden, and the bridge where we visited the first two on one day and the bridge the next. They provided a very interesting tablet that allows you to view many of the rooms you visit as they likely looked back in time. Many of the rooms were quite sparse and there are a number of stairs so those with issues with them might have issues. The garden section was small and not very interesting due to the lack of well kept plants and flowers. During our visit there was a photographic exhibition on the Amazon which was interesting but was very warm with all the lights even though it was October due to the very little cooling which consisted of a couple of fans.

After narrow streets of Avignon, suddenly we arrived in a very grand piazza, which is contrary to the small alleys in the city. Very nice place to spend your time sitting and enjoy the sunset. We didnt get into the palace since we were late. Hopefully next time

This palace has survived the centuries in its entirety, it's truly amazing how huge this place is. The whole thing is run by tablets that have all the information on the building with virtual details on most of the rooms that can be visited. I found it intuitive, perhaps because I'm younger, but I think the goal of interacting with the past with the technologies of the present was appreciated by everyone. I recommend anyone to come here to visit this UNESCO monument and full of history!🤩🙏

Very interesting and historical place. Some rooms o areas are currently closed because of the COVID, but it's very nice anyway. Be careful for the Mistrial in some parts!

Absolutely worth seeing. However, it is very popular and it felt a little bit like cattle being herded through. I'd also recommend buying tickets in advance. Nonetheless, it's a very interesting and beautiful place.

Excellent histopad which takes you through the various rooms. You scan the scan in each room and on your pad the room as it was is brought to life, with marked areas to learn more about the room, the people who used it and about some of the items used, as well as seeing how it was decorated. Well worth a visit. Many many steps both up and down.

Interesting to learn about the story of this place and how it was important geographically. Easy to visit, they have computer simulation of how the rooms looked. A few of them have the original painting and tiles. Don't forget to visit the gatdens as well.

Beautiful historic site. The visit is done with tablets that use AR to show you how the palace looked when the popes lived there. Unfortunately most of the site has changed since then and there aren't many artifacts or rooms that are in their original state so you have to almost fully rely on the tablet. However, the site is still beautiful and the tablet does a good job in explaining the history behind every room.

Includere in the ticket. So must see too! Historical monument + love the music. They also offer little cellphone guide. Love the idea.

You can learn a lot about the history if you pay for the ticket. If you prefer to see amazing buildings or ancient rooms, you are not going to get much “walking on top of the bridge“.

The famous historic Bridge of Avignon. In fact it is only half bridge as part of it was broken down centuries ago due to changed of streaming of river Rhone. Marvellous walk and Tables with good explanations about construction and history also in English. A lift allows also access for handicaped onto the Bridge.

It was a very nice day, and the palais de papes was absolutely stunning. I then walked towards the Pont Saint-Benezet, which was an amazing walk because of the many shops and old streets. I had to walk through the old wall, which was gorgeous, and then I laid eyes on the bridge, which was very historical. All in all a great trip.

It reminds me of the song my mother was singing when I was young ... The view of the river is quite nice. There is an elevator so we can go with a stroller. There is also an audio guide which is nice when you have the time to listen to it and no kids to watch out. It can be dangerous with very young kids, the barriers are not safe and they can easily fall.

Cool to finally see the pont d’Avignon… but it wasn’t that impressive. It was a bit of a let down, to be honest, but it was still a pleasant visit with a beautiful view of the lake!

The view is a bit disappointing and the main road passing just nearby really removes the charm of this historic site. Audio guide is nice to get to know the history.

I've dreamt of visiting the bridge since I was 14. Today, at 56, the dream came true. "Sur le Pont d'Avignon, on y danse..." blared in my head as I walked along that lovely span that remains. It was everything I hoped for and more. But then again, Avignon is spectacular!

Avignon Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Doms d'Avignon) is a Roman Catholic church located next to the Palais des Papes in Avignon, France. The cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Avignon.

Next to Popes' Palace. Lovely cathedral with all expected facilities. Several Popes are buried here, from 14th Cent when the papacy was resident in Avignon.

19 April Circa late 1300 early 1400s Stunning ! Note it opened at 2.30 pm. Well worth a visit to see the Cathedral of the Popes and the amazing art.

Absolutely fabulous. Superb guiding tools like interactive tablets, headphones etc.

I have to admit for such an emblematic and important building, I was expecting a much more ornate Cathedral. Despite being somewhat underwhelmed by its interior, it’s still worth visiting. Make sure you visit the adjoining gardens afterwards for lovely views of the Rhône.

Very good art gallery of the Papal Palace. Wonderful collection and some beautiful works by Botticelli.

On the north side of the Place du Palais and immediately adjacent the large Palais des Papes is the Musee du Petit Palais, a smallish museum that focuses on religious paintings on wood screens and panels (which would normally be placed within various churches) as well as some scultupres. The museum is well organized, laid out and the 14th century palace that it is situated in as interesting in its own right. The collection is narrowly focused so would appeal mostly to a particular crowd. The museum is free and since one is normally in the area to see the Palais des Papes, it is worth the 20 minute visit.

This is a great museum, located beside the Pope's Palace. Located within a 14th-century building, the museum features an impressive collection of over 325 Renaissance paintings and sculptures in Avignon as well as Italy. Admission is reasonable. Admission to ages 11 and under is free. Opening hours: Wednesdays to Mondays from 10:00 to 13:00, 14:00 to 18:00. How long should you visit? Between one and two hours.

Opening hours do not match the signs at the front OR the city map. When I visited, Tourist Information said the daily lunch break was from 1-2 (as per the city map). When I arrived, the museum advertised they were open non-stop until 7. However, by “open” they don’t mean you can see anything, as the galleries are closed for a staff lunch from 12-1. People visiting Avignon have limited time and should be able to plan their visits based on accurate information. Again, I visited at 12:15 and could not see any of the art. Waste of time.

Although this museum is free, most of the rooms/works of art were closed off. Thankfully I did get to see Botticelli’s Madonna & Child, but whereas I’d normally spend a good couple of hours in an art gallery, I was done in less than half an hour. I was also looking forward to enjoying a coffee in the courtyard, but the café was closed and it looked like they were renovating or getting rid of it!

Recommended here for dinner by hotel and pretty much enjoyed it. We ordered £20 for one main plus one dessert each (or you can order one entree and one main). The food and ambience is good. Will recommend it to others

It was completely full but got last minute table by chance. Ordered the lamb and it was excellent. The staff here is very energetic and helpful. Ines took great care of us and her suggestions worked the best. I would recommend going to this restaurant at least once for sure.

This place is usually packed during dinner time at Avignon. The overall experience was good, offers good wine, can pack the wine if you can’t finish the bottle. The entrees we ordered were good but nothing too special. The price is also reasonable given Avignon standards as well as very generous portions.

Great food for a good price. The meals are really filling, well seasoned and the serving looks nice. 20€ for either an entrée or dessert and a main dish.

My wife and I returned here for dinner after 3 years, this time with our 4 month old daughter. The place is exactly as we remembered it: the food is sublime, the welcome wonderful, the experience unforgettable. Each dish is the result of research, the flavors intersect perfectly. The bill is absolutely in line with the evening. Absolutely recommended!

Absolute gem of a find! This restaurant has been the highlight of our trip to France so far. The service is absolutely impeccable and the food we will think about for years. The perfect combination of fresh produce and meat with very creative sauces. The menu changes every six weeks to ensure it’s honoring what’s ripe and in season. Everything about this experience was truly wonderful. We are very serious about our restaurant choices and you can trust that Fou de Fafa will give you the meal of a lifetime.

One of our best meals in Avignon. And Antonia is one of the funniest and most gracious host/server/waitress/bartender & possibly co-proprietors I’ve encountered. Reservations are highly recommended and easily made by email. From the moment we walked in we felt so welcomed. She did a wonderful job with her wine 🍷 and pairing recommendations. The lavender liqueur was very unique/hints of anise & definitely lavender. My husband said his main course the mushroom risotto the best he’s ever had and my Iberian pork was a quintessential taste of autumn 🍂 And the Bananoffee Dessert is off the hook delicious. I’m not sure how she ran the dining room so well as it was just her but you never felt rush despite it filling up. If you have a chance, it’s a must try in Avignon. I had a wonderful dinner at Fou de Fafa on a Saturday night. Booking via email was super easy and I’m glad I did when I saw Antonia having to turn away walk-in guests since the restaurant was fully booked. 3-plats menu at a good price. Food presentation is so pleasant to look at, smell nice and taste great. The fish of the day main dish is SUPERB. Antonia offers a wonderful service. Her voice is so soft and soothing and she speaks perfect English. I highly recommend Fou de Fafa for your Avignon trip and definitely email/call them to book a table in advance.

This is a gem. Starts with the very kind wait staff / owner. The room is very quaint and cozy. All the starters were on point: tuna, carpaccio and papeton. Entree favorites were the cod with Saffron, duck and pork. I especially enjoyed the banana dessert. The wine list was very nice and reasonably priced. Can't wait for the chance to come back.

They were out of foie gras AND the chocolate cake 😢 BUT, everything we ordered was REALLY good. Fun sandwiches, welcoming wait staff, cool interior, very reasonable prices (2 tartines, 2 desserts, a wine and a G&T were 34€). Family-friendly, cozy, and delicious. A very French experience— highly recommended 🏆👍❤️

It was a 100 degree day in Avignon but it was still pleasant sitting in the shade by the fountain. We had two of their signature Tartines and a bottle of French Cidre. They accepted our CDC vaccination certificate in lieu of the Pass Sanitaire. There are many establishments with outside patio dining but it is worth your effort to find this one.

We had the most amazing experience. To start with, the staff was excellent. We were welcomed in a open and warm way. They were very nice and paid attention to the details. Next to that, the food was absolutely mindblowing! We took the menu with accompanied wines. From start to finish we were amazed by the quality of food, different tastes and how well the suggested wines paired with it. I would highly recommend to anyone to visit this lovely restaurant. When we come back to Avignon, this will be our absolute “go to” restaurant.

Found this place by pure coincidence as its on a not very busy street, but happy we did! Great service and really good food, the peas and mint gazpacho has been one of the best cold soups I have had lately! Highly recommended, at least for lunch, which is what we had.

Beautiful inside seating. The 38 euro menu was fantastic. They even had an amouse bouche and palate cleanser! The ceviche was delicious. Service was as to be expected as they were full on a saturday but we enjoyed a leisurely dinner.

The chef and his team prepare a sophisticated and yet authentic french cuisine with local and seasonnal products. The service was discreet but attentive. There is a superb cave with a good selection of french wines. Food was delicious and tasty. I highly recommend.

The food and staff hear were excellent. We've been in Provence for three weeks, and this was the best food during our stay. It has a beautiful interior courtyard. Love it

Amazing food. The wine pairing was also perfect for each dish. My only issue, and a small issue at that, was that it took quite a while to get our order taken at the start. But once we began, each dish and complimentary wine came out with perfect timing. Our wine server even gave us a complimentary sparkling wine. He was a delight! A lovely place that we would definitely recommend to others.

Despite not being open before Dinner time at 19h… which is not cool considering the views on the river bank 😉 The food is good and the staff very welcoming. Special mention to Julien who took a very good care of us, addressing our special demands in a blink of an eye with a big smile (extra sauce, water bowl for my doggy, space for the baby) 👍🏻👍🏻A place to enjoy again in the future. THE restaurant in Avignon! A fantastic view of the Pont d'Avignon, cozy atmosphere, very tasty food at fair prices (e.g. 3 courses for 37 euros) and friendly service

I’ll start off with saying that the location is top tier with a beautiful view on Avignon. The food was mediocre. I tried the steak, pizza and fish. The service left a bad taste in the mouth, some waiters seemed unhappy and our main waiter was just so harsh. We also felt rushed into leaving the place.

Nicely located at the river bank of Rhône and overseeing the Old town’s stone walls. A cosy indoor area is available as well as a very nice outside open air terrace. This restaurant is long established and the menu offers delicious traditional French cuisine. The personnel are young and friendly. A great place for a lovely evening.

Very good food and kind friendly service. They make an effort to speak English if you don’t know French which is nice. Beautiful location to watch the sun set over the city.

The view and atmosphere on the bench of Rhone river is very pleasant. The Travers de cochon was good, the dos de cabillaud was very bitte due to the slices of lemon.

What a beautiful experience!! First of all our lovely waitress was absolutely amazing!!! Her recommendations for our meals and wine was spot on. She had a great sense of humour and was very patient with us. We travelled in a small group, some came from Lyon et my mum and I from Vienne. I am on holiday from Australia and I was very pleased with the beautiful setting, great service and food. I was also surprised with a birthday song. What a great place, could not fault anything. Thank you to all the staff from the Bercail for being so amazing.. should I be around next time this place will definitely be my first choice.
