The basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli is a Roman Catholic rite church located in Assisi . It has the dignity of a papal basilica and inside there is the Porziuncola , the chapel where Francis of Assisi gathered in prayer , and for this reason the center of Franciscan spirituality. On top of the facade of the temple stands the statue of the Madonnain gilded bronze modeled by Colasanti and cast by the Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry of Florence .

A very nice basilica in Assisi, probably often overlooked because people flock up to the hilltop to the town and the more famous basilica and other attractions. This is on the other side of the main train station of Assisi. It’s actually walkable distance from the train station. There is a nice museum, rose garden and gift shop in side as well. The piazza Della Porziuncola in front of the basilica is quite large and nice to walk around and take in the beauty of this place.

One of the two most impressive and important Basilica of the region. A must see even for non-Catholics. It is an astounding monument to the dedication of man to a higher ideal than our collective selves. A place of immersive contemplation and meditation.

A church within a church. The little church marked the place where St Francis of Assisi died, a church, the size of a hut was built to mark the place and some years later, a much bigger church, a Basilica, was built encapsulated the little church. The remains of St Francis of Assisi is in the tomb up the hill. The monks led the praying of the rosary in the little church, I witnessed much piety and reverence from the community. Thanks be to God.

Often overlooked, but worth your time. Inside the Basilica , you will find the Porziuncola, where the young St. Francis prays , reflects and understood his vocation. At the back of the Basilica there are a lot of parking spaces. A must see if you are in Assissi.

I think everyone knows of this place if they visit Umbria. It is very famous but is a bit outside Assisi I recommend having a car if you want to get here. They have mass on Sunday mornings but you can still enter to look around even during mass which was a bit weird but still worth a look.

Highly decorative inside and huge. A rose garden can also be seen from inside and there are gorgeous vaulted ceilings too along the corridors.

What an amazing little original church. It so suited St Francis. The elaborate one built around it, to protect it, would not have earned his approval. Nevertheless it is well worth the visit.

Exterior is pretty bland, but surroundings are spectacular: great panoramic view of Umbrian planes. Altar and crypt underneath are definitely worth visiting

We skipped our group lunch to walk to the Basilica. It was amazing and so worth it. The church is so beautiful. This is a MUST see!

Basilica di Santa Chiara is always a place for silence and prayers. The sunset is always spectacular.

Situated in one of many beautiful locations in Assisi. Here you can learn a bit about the life of Santa Chiara, and see the "Croce di San Damiano" the crucifix San Francesco prayed in front of when he got called to serve the church.

The exact place where our faithful St Francis lived all his life. It's a holy ground, very peaceful environment for a deep meditation and also you visit the room of our faithful St Francis. You connect your life with the heavens when u get here.

One of the best Holy Place to pray, meditate and think in the whole world. Just get into those Holy Woods, sit, think and pray. You'll completely understand what I mean. The same air, trees, paths are filled with the Holiness of the Saints that lived there in the XIII century. You can't miss this place.

This is a place of quiet reflection. We walked from St. Rufinios in Assisi to here. 3 mi walk and 1,200 ft up. The gift shop has snacks and coffee bar. Beautiful landscape with birds singing everywhere. Paths were well maintained.

Absolutely amazing place. We had to turn around because of the wind and rain. So glad we came back. You can just feel how deeply spiritual this place is.

What a powerful and majestic place this was. You feel the area had a completely different vibration here than just down the rode. Impressive to see where Assisi’s hermitage was and where he walked, etc.

Interesting museum with some lovely pieces. However, their information system does not work. It is QR code based, which would be good, except there is no signal for a mobile phone inside the museum amd there is no WiFi. So, you have no means to learn about what you are seeking. Don't waste your money here.

I had climbed up before but had never gone inside until my last visit. Well worth the 10 euros. They have staged the inside so that you can have an idea of how it would be utilized. Lots of plaques that explain the history and uses. Spectacular views but no easy way to get there. Be ready for A LOT of stairs!

Steep climb, but worth it for the amazing view. The inside is closed, but still a great place to go to see all of Assisi.

Stunning place and a great chunk of history. Very well preserved, it's not a ruin but a proper fortress. Entrance is paid, but a nice surprise: payment by card is accepted. One thing to take into consideration: the castle is on the hill and the climb can be exhausting if the day is hot. The road is even and you don't need to hike through but still can be a challenge. Just beside the castle there is a bar with tables outside, a good spot to catch a breath after getting up the hill, there is also a loo available. Beautiful views from up there, I loved it.

Its not a big castle, no exhibitions inside but still, do recommend to visit while being in Assisi. Its only 10-15 mins walking distance from city center. Nice views on the city. Also you can find a Bar before the entrance. Ticket price: 6EUR

We had an absolutely wonderful afternoon at Bibenda Assisi Wine Tasting. Nila is a sweetheart, so knowledgeable, and kind. We learned so much about wine and it was the highlight of our trip to Assisi. Great wine, great food, lots of laughs and pleasant conservations. If you’re looking for a good place to do some wine tasting and learn about wine from an experienced expert… this is the place for you. You will love every minute and you will not regret it! There is a wonderful collection of wine available for purchase. The next time we are in Italy, we will be back for sure!

Excellent atmosphere, very cozy hole-in-the-wall that very much captures the essence of Assisi. Nila gave us a wine-tasting tutorial, and now I know much more about wine than I ever did. The owner is very friendly and welcoming, absolute gem. Very much recommend if you are looking for a quiet little spot to enjoy good wine with friends. English-speaker friendly!

Wine tasting- What an experience! Nila was extremely an knowledgeable hostess and taught us so well. She provided us with delicious snacks and incredible wine. This was an experience we truly never would have gotten anywhere else. Discovery of Wine! Brought a group of young adults to this wine tasting with Nila. She was professional, highly competent, and really spread her enthusiasm of wine. It was wonderful experience. I discovered delicious wines too.

What an amazing quaint little place. We booked a wine tasting with Nila, an amazing sommelier with lots of knowledge and perfect English! Tried some amazing wines and learnt so much in a short space of time. If you are in Assisi and like wine, please, go and try! You won't regret it!

We were recommended to this restaurant by our host and it did not disappoint. It looks touristly but turned out to be very popular with locals. Everything was delicious but the lasagna with bacon, mushroom and truffle was something uniquely flavourful to us. Their ham was also very decent. Service was actually pretty fast compared to the average. Recommended to arrive early for lunch since the place was full after 1245.

Tried 4 main and 1 antipasti. This is definitely one of the places to visit on the hill in Assisi. The owner has her peculiar «Emploi», but it doesn’t hurt the kitchen in any way. Enjoy their pasta, goat cheese with honey, meat, lasagna. Rose and white whines are fantastic.

We got to Assisi a little past 7:00 P.M This restaurant opens at 7:30 pm. We waited until it open. We didn’t have reservation so the hostess told us that she could seat us but there was a reservation for 9pm. That by that time we Need to be done. Our food order was taken immediately services was good. Within 45 minutes we’re out of there. Will be back soon and I will make sure we have reservation to enjoy more the place. Thank you

Don't be fooled by the touristy location in the center of town - you will get delicious Italian food at this restaurant. Our pasta was delicious, simple and made with tasty ingredients. It was great to see an all-female staff as well, from the owner to the waiters and cooks. It was an awesome experience and we enjoyed the delicious Assisi food immensely. It was recommended by our host and it was definitely worth it. 😋 Don't forget to try the Amaro Francescano as a digestivo, it's delicious and not too sweet!

Despite being in a touristy location, certainly not a touristic restaurant! Authentic Italian food, and very reasonably priced. Fresh and delicious. Recommend it.

Few days ago I have visited Assisi. Unlikely to most of my visits here the city was desolated. Eventually all interesting restaurants were closed. What a relief Trattoria was opened! Fantastic veal. My daughter had great chicken. Very friendly service. And digitally enhanced:) They could show you a picture of the dish to consider.

Best in Assisi. Recommended by Airbnb hosts visited around mid. Nov for dinner. Everything was really nice, enjoyed vino Rosso Locale 1L as well (too much for me haha). The owner helped us to get taxi return to the bnb. Was need to leave early because of my wife's sickness. Highly recommended. Want to visit again.

Nice restaurant in a great location. You can enjoy the view of a little plaza with a water fountain if you dine outside. Carbonara was ok!

We ordered 2 servings of pasta and a large salad to share. In addition we ordered a wine jug. The food was in good taste, fine and colorful. The staff was happy and funny. We really enjoyed the hospitality and the atmosphere was perfect. The prices are very good! Plus, We got a free gift at the end of the meal! BTW. The design of the place is authentic with ceramic dishes and tables. The plates and cups can be purchased on the spot!

Authentic Italian restaurant inside the train station, upstairs. Good food : follow their daily menu recommendation! Good wine : we ordered 2/4 L house wine. Excellent.

We had a great meal with friendly service and very reasonable prices. My stuffed pasta with a porcini sauce topped with fresh grated truffle was delicious and my wife loved her chicken breast with a butter sage sauce. We saw many large portioned plates of food going by to smiling customers which made for a happy ambiance. The meal was finished with two of the best macchiatos we've had in Italy. My one personal regret is that I would order a specific wine. The house red was fine for a 5€ for a half liter but a great meal like that deserved a better wine, ok another regret is we didn't have room for dessert because they looked delicious.

Odd pairing of Japanese and Italian but the food was good. Service could be improved as we had to ask for many things like menus and plates, but the staff had a good attitude overall. I'd return and try some different items.

Every dining experience at this restaurant is truly memorable, largely thanks to the exceptional team of young staff members. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine warmth create an atmosphere that is both inviting and comfortable. Compliments must be extended to the chef as well. The expertise and creativity they bring to the table never cease to amaze me. I recommend it wholeheartedly!

We had the artichoke special, mushroom risotto and pork teriyaki. One of the best meals we had in our 5 day stay in Assisi. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed an excellent meal at Osteria Piazetta Dell'Erba. Elevated takes on traditional dishes as well as more international offerings. And service was very attentive, yet casual and friendly.

Fantastic. They take Italian classics and update them with a bit of Asian flavor. It works extremely well. The outdoor tables under the trees in a quiet corner of Assisi is it's own little slice of heaven. Another place in this town worth a pilgrimage.

We ate here 3 times in 2 days. The food and atmosphere are wonderful. We come to Italy every year, this time for a month. We know great Italian food when we taste it. We highly recommend this trattoria.

Lunch at a typical Umbrian trattoria, tucked in a corner of the central square but was packed when we visited. No wonder, as the food was incredible and we had a nice window seat. The cappellacci al pecorino di fossa e miele di acacia ... simple and yet so good 😍😍😋😋

This is a homely eatery ensconced within a frescoed vault run by a lovely local family (who were eating dinner at one of the tables as we ambled in around 7:15pm). Service was attentive without being overbearing and I appreciated being allowed to sample several wines before settling on one we liked (as we were unfamiliar with the local wine offerings). The food was fresh, unpretentious, and completely unsullied by the usual Americans affectations which tend to overshadow the essence of these dishes, and the dessert while initially seeming plain turned out to be hidden gems. Would recommend to travelers after an authentic Umbrian culinary experience.

Good food, good wine and good service!

We had lunch in this restaurant with my fiancee during our visit in Umbria while walking around Assisi. It was a delightful surprise to enjoy such nice lunch as we weren't expecting much in such a touristic area. We tried strangozzi with truffle which came with plenty of truffle on top and slightly "al dente" as should be. We then also had some 'cappellacci filled with meat and garnished with pecorino and honey sauce' wich were delicious and stepped out. These two fist dishes convinced us to have the wild boar spezzatino ad a follow up and I must say it was the best decision so far. The meat was extremely tender and the sauce very savoury with clove, veggies whole black pepper, and probably some cinnamon. I strongly suggest having the spezzatino if you happening to pass here. We were stuffed at this point and didn't enjoy the cioccolate tart dessert we orderd. In general it was overall a great experience. I shall return here at some point.

The staff here works so hard to serve efficiently and with warm-hearted hospitality. Despite our lack of reservation, they found us a table. You’ll experience a true sense of place— in the people, the food, the setting. For us, a local red wine sets us firmly in the taste of Italy. My ravioli with eggplant and smoked cheese was a revelation. My partner reveled in his flavorful gnocchi and beautifully cooked veal. Sadly too full, we had to forgo dessert for another time.
