This plaza is beautiful. The center park is full of green lush areas with mature trees and floral gardens. There is always some sort of activity taking place. During the late afternoon and into the evening there are many small cart vendors offering food and small gift items. The roads leading into the plaza are lined with restaurants and clothing stores. Make sure to visit during daylights and nighttime as the atmosphere completely changes.

Beautiful park with ancient structures and museum. If you're interested in the history of the Catholic church in Arequipa, then do well to visit the museum. Tourists endeavour to visit this place. Beautiful square - one of the most beautiful I have seen in South America. I love that there are no cars and it is not filled with street vendors. You can walk around here without being attacked by sellers. The church is amazing and the buildings on the other 3 sides are a perfect match to the square.

Beautiful central square of the city of Arequipa. It's main attraction is the iconic Basilic Cathedral of Arequipa, one of the most iconic cathedrals in the country whose construction dates since the Spanish colonization of Peru. Different concerts and cultural events takes place during the year. You can view the agenda of these events at the city of Arequipa"s website.

This is a very beautiful place to visit! I think it looks more beautiful during the day when it's very sunny. There are some nice restaurants and tour agencies around the Plaza de Armas. My favorite place to eat around there is called LA LUCHA.

This is THE meeting spot in the center of Historic Arequipa. Often crowded with a mix of tourists, locals and vendors, you can often see traditional dances and the occasional street protest. The Plaza is in the shadow of the Arequipa Cathedral and City Hall. Tourists WILL be approached to buy souvenirs, tours of the city and surrounding areas, and to dine in the mediocre restaurants surrounding the plaza.

A great museum but terrible business model. Despite a recent price hike from 20 to 25 soles per person, the *mandatory* guide is not included in the price. The museum is self explanatory and great to visit alone - having to go with a guide which is not paid by the museum and has no set price was disturbing at best and seems dishonest towards both the guides and visitors.

This museum is dedicated to the child sacrifice rituals of the Incan people. The guides are mandatory, but they are super knowledgeable. It’s a quick tour about a fascinating yet gruesome topic. It’s a bit pricey for not being able to wonder at your own pace or take photos, but you’ll learn a ton.

It was great to visit. It's not a large museum, actually quite a small but there are many interesting exhibits in the museum. The guide explained in English and she's very knowledgeable and we asked her many questions. When I met "JUANITA" my heart hurt a bit...

Musuem only designed to expose the children momified by frost and the different objects found with them. Despite its minimalistic presentation, the tour with a guide (clear in english) is quite enjoyable and you can easily imagine how those children where sacrified. You will of course not be deceaved by the momie exposed.

It is a very pleasant experience to be able to see a mummy with my own eyes. I recommend visiting it.

Very interesting museum/tour! It starts with an interesting 20 minute video with some background on the discovery of 'Juanita'. Then a guide will take you through the museum in approximately 30 minutes, finishing with the ice mummy. Guides are available in English. Do bring some extra cash as a tip, because all the guides are volunteers! Video has English audio. Subtitles are available in Spanish, German, and Italian.

I feel the museum is not worth price (25 soles for foreigners) for what you get. On top of that you it’s mandatory to take a tip-based guided tour. So far so good and I wouldn’t mind the price and tips. However our tour was extremely rushed - our tour guide got us through the five exhibition halls in around 10 minutes. After the tour you are not allowed to return to the exhibition halls to see things in more detail or read the explanations/information. So it was kind of disappointing.

Pretty good experience. I read some other reviews that said the tour felt rushed, maybe a tiny bit but our guide was informative and stopped at almost every display in each room to tell us about it. They could definitely get some better speakers for the introduction movie, which itself was interesting, at least the parts I could hear. There were lots of artifacts over 500 years out that are well preserved, especially the ponchos. Of course, seeing the frozen Juanita mummy at the end was very unique. For the price (25 soles for foreigners), it's worth a visit

The museum is located in an elegant colonial house. Tours available in english and spanish for 20 soles are mandatory (because of covid they say), the visit lasts exactly 30 rushed minutes with 0 flexibility, the first 6 minutes of which are spent watching an outdated video in spanish with poorly translated english subtitles (like youtube cc). The museum is freezing (think cinemas in Thailand). There are a few rooms, with several glass cases per room. The explanations are rushed, but a couple of very nice items are exposed and it‘s interesting to see Juanita in her little freezer. Tips are expected at the end of the visit. Overpriced experience only worth doing if you have lots of time, but then again it only eats up 30-45 mins of your day.

The only bad thing for a tourist was that they offered a guide to see the museum. I thought nothing was in English. I got help from the guide and saw that the same information was written in English too. I had to give a tip. This is so nonsense. The museum is worth seeing

Great idea to do if you are in Arequipa. General overview: Center of the city. Gives you a view of the cathedral when it’s closed to the public. So less people. A tour around the museum looking at old religious bits. Fairly interesting The history of the earthquake that meant they had to rebuild some of the church. Rooftop view of the city and the 3 volcanos. Practical bits: Cash only tickets 10sol per person Also strong recommended that you pay the guide - others have said 5 sol. We have 5USD for two, as we did not have any sol at the time. (they make a bit of a point about saying they are not paid, and rely on tips) If you get a good guide, which we did, and just 4 of us in the group. Really good tour. Recommended even just for the roof top views!

Beautiful building with Neo classical style architecture. Nothing special on the inside, just like a regular Catholic Church with some museum prices of display. It is mandatory to enter with a guide (additional 5 soles per person).

This museum could use many upgrades and some cleanup, painting or modernization, but it is so interesting and fantastic that it gets a “five” anyhow. I loved the historical sections, temple art, bronze sculptures. Amazing collection! It vividly reminds me of the old Cairo Museum in its wealth and value of the collection. Same quality just different continent.

Lovely place. Best part about it is that it is situated in the center of the city so all the nearby areas can be easily reached in lesser time. The rooftop views are simply marvelous and so so beautiful. I'll just go once again for the rooftop views.

The tour guides weren’t very enthusiastic and kept harping me for a tip at the end which I found unprofessional. The church was beautiful and a good way to spend an afternoon. Incredible views of the 3 volcanoes on the roof.

We didn’t see a great deal of this church. There is a cloister which is given over to retail an d food, then an entrance room with a magnificent carved wooden dome. It would be better if you could also visit the Church itself, which we were unable to do.

The facade is intricately carved and the interior is filled with baroque details. Don't miss the small side chapel with its colorful wall paintings. It's definitely worth the small entrance fee.

My kids enjoyed it. It's a short free tour that was kid friendly. They have ethical practices for the animals and the weavers. And they have a very nice shop. We enjoyed our time there.

Cool place to see and pet Alpacas and Lamas, see a small part of the clothing making factory and processes, and being able to buy Alpaca sweaters before you leave. It is definitely expensive, but at least you'll know that you will get the real deal.

Great place to get up close with Llamas and Alpacas for free. There are very good quality clothes made from baby alpaca and Vicuna. Interesting information on placards in English and Spanish. You also see women sorting the wool and you get to feel Vicuna.

The best part of visiting this place is to see the alpacas and lamas for free, besides to get to know more about these furs and how they do the clothes they sell. The prices of the clothes are kinda high, but the quality is one of the best. Some of the staff could be unkind or not attentive, because the purpose of the place os to sell clothes, anyway, the visit for free totally worth it!

This place is the best! Beside watching the alpaca's and llama's from upclose, you actually are given some useful info about them! Not a big tour, but definitively a recommended visit in Arequipa!

Stop by and see the alpacas! You are given a very brief introduction to the animals and processes of harvesting their fur before being taken to the shop. Take your time and look around, hang with the alpacas and don’t feel pressured to buy unless you want to! But there are certainly worse places to buy your alpaca gear

I had a really great experience here, that's why I have been to this location already several times. The food is delicious and the service is nice. I had the 300g Alpaca fillet and can definitely recommend that. The Ratatouille wasn't my favorite, so next time, I would pick a different side. Overall a really nice restaurant. We waited a bit to receive the food, but it didn't feel like a long time and me and my partner had a good conversation, so we didn't even notice. Nevertheless without saying anything, the staff still stepped up and gave us a free dessert.

Best meal we had in Peru, hands down. Great meat, all varieties cooked to perfection and nice sauces. On the other hand, great vegetarian options for the meatless in our party.

Zig Zag’s was absolutely phenomenal. Hands down likely one of the top restaurants in the region. Service- we were greeted warmly at the reception and our waiter Ian was great and did an awesome job waiting our table. Atmosphere- beautiful, relaxing, clean with a subtle reduction in lighting of the dining area that sets a perfect mood and adds to the ambience. Food- outstanding across the board. The meats were cooked perfectly medium rare and served hot on the “volcano plates”. The sauces had a nice variety and all were quite tasty. The alpaca steak was wonderful, but so was the lamb.. so it’s hard for me to say which one was the best. I honestly reckon there’s not a single bad option on the menu though based on what we observed. Overall - it’s a little pricey, but the quality of food and service is worth it. I enthusiastically recommend this restaurant!

The three meats were delicious and the presentation was superb. The homemade butter worked perfectly on the bread as well as on the meat. Note that the stone under the meat is hot and it keeps cooking the meat, so if you don't want the meat well done and dry, take them off the stone.

My cousin had recommended this restaurant to me to visit while in Arequipa. We went without a reservation and they told us it would be a 40 minute wait. We were fine with that and walked around in the meantime. At the 40 minutes the restaurant called and said it would be 20 minutes more. So we said it was fine since we had gone to get a coffee. After the 20 minutes, we went back to the restaurant and they told us our table still was not ready but that we could sit in the waiting room and look at the menu. Shortly after we were seated on the second floor. It was a narrow and steep walk up the stairs. The area was cozy and had about 5 tables which seated 4-5 people. One of the people in our party had wanted to sit downstairs near the staircase and they tried to accommodate but there just weren’t any tables available there. Our waiter Ian was very attentive and provided suggestions on how to order. We ordered our food and got some complimentary bread which came with flavored butter (anchovies in it also but not fishy at all) and a green olive sauce. It was good. I ordered the chicken fillet (it’s chicken breast which I prefer so I was happy!) with a side of pure de papa (mashed potatoes) and a salad. The chicken was served on a hot volcanic stone with 3 different sauces. They were all spectacular! Others in my party ordered alpaca, beef and lamb. They said it was all delicious! At the end the manager came I think and apologized that we could not sit downstairs and offered us a free dessert which was a nice gesture. They were cocoa truffle balls which were out of this world! They were so good. All in all I had a great experience and would recommend to anyone visiting Arequipa.

This was a top 3 meal during our week long vacation in Peru. Even better than many restaurants in Lima. The only reason it wasn’t a 5 was because my salad was a bit bland. The octopus is a must have! Great spot for a date.

Time for chef Gaston to do an audit of this restaurant. My wife ordered one octopus dish, and didn't realize she got a different, more expensive one until the bill arrived. She found the octopus had a strange layer of sinew on the outside and was very chewy. I ordered the Triple Picantero. Both the pork and chicken seemed to have been deep fried, and were dry with little flavour. The stuffed pepper was fine, but nothing outstanding. Our waiter gave off that attitude like he had worked there forever, and was better than the guests. His service was well under par for such a highly popular restaurant. He never even bothered to inform us of the specials, that we only noticed on a board after ordering. Although still a bargain by Canadian standards, we have been in Peru for over a week, and have had far better meals with much better service for much less money. Sorry, but you can find better in Arequipa.

Great atmosphere, food and service. We got a salad as appetizer and two stews as main dishes. The salad was just ok, the stews however were great. Although the salad was just ok, I give five stars because the service staff was very patient with us and let us sit there for a long while even after finishing our food. Note that the stews are very filling so the appetizer is not necessary and you need to be hungry.

We’re from San Francisco, USA, and this was one of the best meals of our lives. We did the special deal they had where you could choose 5 dishes each for smaller portions and special pricing, so the two of us got to chose 10 dishes total. Each dish was a burst of new flavors and spices, original and Peruvian, and extremely well executed. Our waiter was helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The space itself is beautiful. They found out it was our honeymoon and gave us a special dessert. The whole experience was just perfect: the food, atmosphere, new tastes, the waiter, everything. It was an evening we’ll always remember. For Americans, it was extremely affordable at about $70 total for the 10 dishes, nonalcoholic drinks, tax and tip for the two of us. Thank you!

It was a great experience. At the beginning the service was a bit slow, but then somebody took always care of our table. You can find different dishes and always with a gourmet touch, so traditional but not completey. Wine selection is reduced but we had an amazing red wine from Argentina. The dessert was amazing… the sensible sphere!

Best meal in Arequipa! Everything was delicious and I regret not staying longer to try everything on their menu. The setting is also beautiful. The food wasn’t overly expensive so don’t miss out if you are in the city!

Loved this cafe so much that we had dessert here twice during our trip. The crepes are beautifully presented and the atmosphere is really relaxed. There are three different ambiances - the main area with the sought-after spot by the window, the patio, and the cozy loft (our preferred seating with couches and board games/books). From the loft, don't forget to take the stairs up to the rooftop viewpoint.

Really bad coffee - we have order capuccino and had to return it. Crepes was’nt so terrible but whipped cream wasnt cream - just some plant substitute - and caramel was just some cheap prefabricated topping. Not good price:value ratio.

The pasta is really good. The sauce varieties are great. The salad dressing could use an upgrade. Prices are also low for what you get. What makes this a 4 star is the atmosphere and the most dirty AC I have ever seen on the first floor.

An amazing pasta restaurant with quite good prices. We got the lamb ragú pasta which was very good and a bit spicy, and the cheese wheel with bacon and white sauce and it was so creamy and delicious- definitely worth to try! Each pasta comes with a nice salad and a garlic bread. The staff was so nice and helpful. If you’re craving a pasta this is definitely the place to go.

A nice little place for some good Italian style food. The food is pretty tasty and has good flavour. The menu allows you to choose from set dishes or to pick your own pasta and ingredients to make your own. This is what we did. The beef tenderloin was good but I think I only had 3-4 pieces which is not a lot for 4.5 SOL extra. I also paid 6 SOL for the grande pasta portion but I still found the portion small. Maybe this is just me being greedy! The staff were really friendly and helpful as we found the menu a bit tricky. The prices are good but not the cheapest.

Good pasta, what is a little bit annoying is that for almost all toppings that are not meat an extra fee is included. Also you can only choose two toppings and it is not indicated that cheese is already included. But price is fine and you get bread and salad alongside your pasta for around 27 soles.

This place is insanely delicious. I'm utterly shook that such high quality, handmade pasta exists in Peru -- let alone Arequipa. If you're itching for some soulful comfort food -- look no further. They also serve really interesting local cranberry cider infused with the likes of agave and cannabis/hemp.

Amazing concept, best staff, fast service, delicious food, a must try if staying in Arequipa. Only s/22 for custom pasta’s in a great atmosphere. You also get garlic bread and a salad along with it. Will be coming back for sure!

Delicious Pasta - here we go! Today we had a very nice lunch here in pasta canteen. I liked the small but great menu, we took the spaghetti with meatballs and also the squid ink tagliatelle with hot shrimps. Amazing!! The garlic bread made the whole experience perfect. No doubt about the 5 stars! We ordered the rocoto relleno to begin with and it’s the best we had during the trip. It’s different than other dried version of Rocoto Relleno we tasted in other restaurants because it was cooked to perfection to be very juicy, and with delicious melted cheese on the top. The traditional cuy chactado is a must try during your Peru trip. It does look a bit scary I might say, but you won’t regret it. The meat tastes somewhat as a mix between a crispy duck and juicy pork. It was super good. We also got the Lomo a lo zingaro, which was great as well.

Well located in downtown, this restaurant offered good local specialties. The appetizer was potatoes with a nice homemade sauce very tasty. The main course was a very good beef cooked with a local alcohol : Pisco. The meat was excellent and tender. It was served with potatoes. The dessert was a good fruit salad so this was a great experience and I recommend it

Quite simply some of the best food I have ever had in my entire life. Please try this restaurant, they have both food that is special for Peru and traditionally western. Absolutely amazing

Like Pisco coca sour and Queso Helado (traditional Arequipa ice-cream) a lot. Guinea pig is also very nice and crispy. Alpaca rib is also very good.
